So, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf — the BioWare game that's been developed, scrapped, developed again, maybe scrapped again, and then teased for about half a decade, could finally release before the year is out. That's according to in-the-know Game Mess host Jeff Grubb (via Eurogamer), who says "[Dreadwolf] will be released this year, last I heard". He continues: "They're pretty confident about that. Doesn't mean it's a guarantee – could slip – but right now, internally, they expect to release it later this year."
Let's hope so, eh? Again, the new Dragon Age has failed to show up at so many industry events over the last few years that we've grown accustomed to just disregarding its existence. But last year, BioWare did say that the game would be properly revealed in the summer of 2024. Assuming everything lines up, including this release rumour, it probably means that we're getting a date at Summer Games Fest or something.
It's a high pressure situation, though. Dreadwolf has been in public-facing limbo for so long that this eventual reveal really needs to hit home. It feels like the once top-tier RPG developer has an awful lot riding on the success of this project.
How do you think things will go for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf this year? Watch with nervous anticipation in the comments section below.

My moneys on 2025
@themightyant The question is whether EA has set a hard deadline or not. This game's development has clearly been an issue, and BioWare's probably blown a massive amount of resources on it at this point.
There might be a situation where EA can't let it slip to 2025 for the sake of its projected financials. I suppose we'll soon see!
Dragon age inquisition won 2014 game of the year.and i see why.that game is amazing.i l🖤ve the magic on this game.i still think dragon dogma dark arisen got a better magic gameplay.but dragon age inquisition is excellent also.so if its true its coming this year.that would be cool.word up son
Hoping for a return to form for BioWare.
I doubt it EA don’t seem to be giving us any new information or gameplay either.
I’ll safely say next year.
It’s only rumoured as the title states to be this year doesn’t mean it will be
The studio has a lot of pressure for a hit with this one. Having to come out in a post BG3 world certainly isn't going to help. I hope they can pull it off though. I think we'll finally see some gameplay in the summer.
Love the Dragon Age series.
But Bioware is not Bioware anymore. Most of the people who released all those iconic games are long gone from the company.
They just laid off another round of 50 people, including some of their last veteran employees.
@ShogunRok I hope not. We all need a kick up the arse sometimes and a soft deadline can help with that, but hard deadlines in creative industries increase the odds the final product will be poor. You can’t rush art. I’m not sure BioWare can afford another big failure, both financially and in terms of their reputation.
With so little of the game having been shown up until now, I fear the worst, unfortunately. I loved Inquisition, though trying to shoehorn in a multiplayer mode was a misstep in my opinion. Hopefully this is a fully single player experience and is of high quality as it is certainly a franchise that I have enjoyed up until now...
I honestly can't see this being anything other than a car crash and the final nail in Bioware's coffin.
Inquisition hasn't aged particularly well visually at least, but at the time it was an amazing game for sure. I put like 200 hours into it, it won game of the year, it did just about everything I can remember very well. I'm not sure what to expect from Dreadwolf, but I'm hoping it's worth playing!
All I know is I loved Inquisition. It was awesome. And if this is more of that Im all for it!
Will release.
Could release.
Will release.
Could slip.
👏👏👏👏
The first Dragon Age came out at a time when the CRPG was dying out and I absolutely loved it.
The sequel was disappointing and the I thought the third game was terrible.
There’s too many good RPGs that have come out in the last 10 years that I can’t see EA/Bioware being able to compete with.
Bioware didnt make a good game since dragon age origins.
How are people so hyped about this?
@Clytorial_Impact how on earth you can call inquisition terrible is beyond me bro. Absolutely nuts! It was utterly brilliant
I'm not really a big Dragon Age fan but I'm hoping this one turns out great so that they get another shot with Mass Effect. I'm rooting for Bioware. I hope they come out swinging.
I don't comment on rumors and speculations.......ups
Remaster origins and 2 for modern platforms
Hopefully it’s decent. I wish the industry was more transparent about release dates, so we could plan the second half of our year already. I dunno why I’m so lukewarm about the game, but i wish I could say I’m more excited.
I remember the last dragon age.. I hope this isn't as disappointing
I will definitely play it but not expecting too much. I actually would much rather play a remaster of dragon age origins.
If this flops BioWare is dead. It feels like they kinda already are. Which pains me to say.
No chance this lands in a good state this year. After Anthem, Bioware is on a short leash. It's gotta be perfect. I'll lay odds on 2026.
@Mikey856 haha yeah, reading the comments here it feels like I played a different Dragon Age 3. I just recall not liking it all but it was a long time ago.
Am I the only person on this hive mind forum who really liked the second dragon age over the other two? Open worlds are not everything
@GeminiReign Oh *****, youre right. Didnt realize its after DAO! ME2 is definetly a great game, objectively best in the series, altho i personally prefer the more RPG focus of the first game.
@Totheteeth Same here.
It was hammered at the time for using the same dungeon environment repeatedly and just changing the layout slightly (so many games have done this), but it had an excellent story.
Definitely my favourite of the three games in that regard.
I loved all three, for the record. Mainly the first two for the mix of high and dark fantasy.
The third game has a bit of a shift in tone but it's still great.
Pretty much everyone who made it good is gone. I'll probably still play it, though. Need to play Inquisition.
I bet it slips to Q1 2025. Bioware is gone if this isn't a huge success. I'm rooting for them. I have loved the Dragon Age series for a long time. I personally thought Inquisition was excellent and DAO is in my top 10 of all time
@Totheteeth Two was the worst imo and nothing to do with it not being open world. Too many assets were reused over and over and it became repetitive. The characters were cool though and I enjoyed the fighting.
@GeminiReign
ME2 wasn't an excellent game let alone an RPG.
Dragon Age 2 was my favourite. I just loved fem Hawke.
If it ends up on par with Inquisition then I'll be a very happy man
@GrumpyDev it's a direct sequel to Inquisition...
It has to. Now that Bioware lost star wars the old republic they have no revenue source.
Origins was an epic. DA2 less so, but Inquisition raised the bar again. This looks to be a continuation of the 3rd one so I'm up for this! PS5 might have 2 games worth buying this year - wooo.
Incredibly unlikely. And honestly from the art I've seen of this game and how inquisition went. I'd rather it just got canceled to prevent another bioware disappointment.
@RedRiot193
This. Some art in Inquisition was just tasteless.
This mess isn't all on BioWare. We could have had a new Dragon Age in 2018 or so, but EA butted in and made BioWare scrap everything and start over with an emphasis on Live Service elements. Then, from what I've been told, the success of the single-player Fallen Order game made EA change their mind again, had BioWare scrap the Live Service crap, and they started over from scratch AGAIN, going back to the single-player focused project they had been working on originally.
If any of this info is false, please correct me. But from what I can tell EA is just as responsible for the mess that is Dragon Age currently as BioWare is.
@ILikeStake I agree the characters were very memorable, but the whole project reeked of "release this is 12 months I don't care how" with how many environments were reused and such. I remember looking through a strategy guide and seeing all the maps there emphasized how copy-paste it really was.
