Square Enix has warned Final Fantasy XVI players that it's aware of a potentially progress-impeding bug, specifically affecting players trying to boot up a New Game+ run. The good news is that the developer is prioritising a fix and will push out a patch once a resolution is found.
On Twitter, Square Enix apologised for the inconvenience and offered advice on what to try. The issue is when players select to start New Game+ and skip the prologue; there is a slight chance that needed party members won't appear, making progressing through the main scenario quest, "A Chance Encounter", impossible.
If you are affected and the patch hasn't arrived, Square Enix recommends loading the saved data created immediately before firing up New Game+. Then, travel to a new location on the world map, save the game, and use this data when launching New Game+.

Completed the NG+ skipping the prologue but luckily this didn’t happen.
It’s good they are advising and informing players, less cool they found this almost one year after the release of the game.
That sounds bad…
I did the prologue again in my NG+ run a few weeks ago, lucky!
Great game, is good to see that at least they are caring to inform of this kind of error
Hilarious stuff.
@Nei this issue most probably occurs after the last update / DLC, not since the game released.
@Nei It never happened during the release of the game.
I can't believe they covered up Clive's shoulders. Censorship gone mad!
How hard is final fantasy difficulty on this game ?
@Mikey856 it's not harder than normal really. It just scales up enemy stats do you don't stomp them effortlessly in New Game+. It removes button prompts during the occasional QTE's, but that's more annoying than anything else.
The mode for people wanting a challenge is the Ultimaniac mode.
@Nepp67 I see
@Nei Actually it's possible this bug only came out with the new update? The new update added some nice QOL adjustments and additions as well as making combat feel better overall. So chances are something broke by mistake.
