Since unveiling the eye-watering $130 Ultimate Edition of Star Wars Outlaws last week, Ubisoft has been under fire from fans furious a full-priced single-player game would even warrant a Season Pass in the first place. Worse, acquiring the Season Pass is the only way to "play the exclusive Jabba's Gambit mission at launch".
Ubisoft has since issued a statement insisting that Jabba the Hutt and the notorious Hutt Cartel are one of the main syndicates and that players will definitely have dealings with the faction in the base game. However, Ubisoft suggests that if players want the optional, additional mission, perhaps a little extra face-time with the big guy, the Season Pass is right there. The mission description reads: "Just as Kay is putting together a crew for the Canto Bight heist, she receives a job from Jabba the Hutt himself. Turns out that ND-5 owes Jabba a debt from years ago, and he has come to collect."
A Ubisoft spokesperson issued the missive to IGN, and it reads: "To clarify, Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for everyone who purchases the game, regardless of edition. The Jabba's Gambit mission is an optional, additional mission with the Hutt Cartel along Kay and Nix's journey across the Outer Rim. This mission will be available to those who purchase the season pass or an edition of the game, including the season pass."
We'll leave it to the players to decide whether that sounds like a deal worth taking, but it's hard to make an informed decision without knowing the scope of the mission in question. If you think Ubisoft is treating you unfairly, let us know in the comments section below.

I intend to get this game and become fully engrossed in it. But I will neither pay for, nor complain about, all the extra stuff Ubisoft wants people to buy.
Ubisoft saves me money all the time with their brilliant business moves.
And Disney saved me so much money as an adult. I spent thousands of dollars on Star Wars as a kid. Since I watched The Last Jedi I haven't spent a cent. Thanks Disney!
It was insane to think that a criminal as infamous as Jabba wouldn’t be in this game.
If it's anything like other past Ubisoft games the quest will probably be a small inconsequential bonus. For those patient enough they could probably snag one of the pricier editions for a discount depending on how the game does since Ubisoft tends to cut the price of their games pretty quickly.
Just wait 3 months, and the full deluxe ultra jedi edition will be at 40% discount
It should never be a thing to lock missions behind pre order *****. That should only ever be for cosmetics.
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
Annoying MC when a custom character was obvious, scummy DLC, money grubbing… yeah this is an easy pass.
Terrible monetization on games that they will eventually rendered unplayable thanks to their random mandatory online connectivity.
@Phelaidar this. The fact that every edition that actually has extra content is 144 CAD and higher is absurd already, but Ubisoft has been racing to discount their games more than most. It’s obvious these massive price points are making it harder to actually sell their games, at least enough to recoup costs and make a profit.
For me, tired of Ubisoft anyway. The formula is dragged out and overplayed nowadays, and removing towers doesn’t make a difference. Also can’t help but mention X Defiant, which based on the beta is one of the their most promising games in years, is still MIA and I’m just assuming its cancelled.
@Jaz007 worst thing is the voiceover for the one guy narrating the trailer. Good lord, sounds like AOL’s “you’ve got mail” voice trying to become sentient.
Kay Vess’s hairstyle though. Love the old TMNT live action movies from the 80s, but I never thought Star Wars would be packing a character with April Oneils hairstyle.
UbiSoft sure knows how to ruin a game. Even a dang single player game, with horse crap season passes and other money grabbing greed. Gimme a break!!!
I am more curious if this is by a by the numbers Ubisoft game with the tower climbing stuff. Or will it feel unique?
I hope it's good. I'll be waiting until it's closer to a price that fits my disposable income, since Ubisoft seems to feel it's disposable.
Just making it easier and easier to skip their games from bad characters, same unchanged and unrefined gameplay to this pricing bs
I think….
It’s a trap!
It's ubi....they want to fully cash it in Star Wars IP.....and Mark my words ..... People gonna PAy in premium no matter how much backlash it got....
Ubisoft doing all it can to overtake EA as the most despised video game publisher.
I think it's pretty disgusting when content that is already in the game you've just purchased is locked out until you spend a bit more to unlock it. If its additional content that's been added further down the line then fair enough I guess but when it's already there? No thanks..
With companies implementing greedy practices and launching more and more games in an un-optimized states I have no issue waiting for a huge sale.
Can't wait to buy this game next year for £5.
@OnlyGaming You already need an online connection to even install this game, which is incredibly stupid. So either way it's unplayable if they pull the plug.
Really are trying to claw back the money for development aren't they I really hope it flops
@Jaz007 Did you moan that Jedi Order didn't have a custom character as well?
And this is why I don't buy Ubisoft games or support their games in any way, even playing them for free.
Terrible company that makes terrible games
$130 for a game that requires online. This'll go the same way as The Crew sooner or later. I've got better things to waste my money on, than games with planned obsolescence.
I think this really sums up this generation of gaming perfectly.
Do we want a decent Star Wars game or not? If this IS a decent Star Wars game... then why would we not want to pay a fair price for it?
Or is the issue simply that no-one believes Ubisoft has made a decent Star Wars game?
I'd happily pay twice the price for half the games if every one of those games exceeded my expectations. But alas, PS5 era is, bar a few exceptions, the generation of massive let downs and frankly crap games. Even Spiderman that everyone got so excited about ended up playing exactly like the previous game.
Somehow ubisoft returned with limited power executing order 66 to devour the younglings Imperial credits.
If this was different in any way from Ubisoft's usual practice, I can see getting upset. But it's not. This is the case with every Ubisoft open world game. I look forward to more "water is wet" articles.
@Octane What? seriously? you need an internet connection to play this game? well that's that then I'm definitely not buying it now. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Utterly ridiculous you need an online connection at all.
As if Ubisoft + modern Star Wars wasn't enough of a turn off, the game just looks crap let's be honest. The animation & lip syncing looks straight out of Thunderbirds or Team America, its so bad it's hilarious!
But are these crazy priced tiers perhaps the result of having to shell out for the Star Wars licence? Because I have zero sympathy for these moronic companies saying games cost too much to make, then announcing 1000 Marvel & Star Wars games. Pardon the rant, it's been a day!
Assuming the reviews are positive, I will be getting this game. However, whereas I usually pre-order a game, and would have this one had the price been reasonable, I will be awaiting a deep sale for this one. As much as I want to play it, the cost is simply too much. I can wait, and I have plenty of games to entertain me whilst I wait...
@DennisReynolds No, not the obvious choice for an open-world SW outlaw game. Linear games aren’t as good for a custom character normally.
Because this is content ready at release it's something they held back, that is garbage. But eventualy it will be for sale or released for free to entice new customers to buy the game. I pre-ordered the standard edition and if their dlc is good, and when it's at a deep discount, and I'm still interrested, I will buy it.
If nobody buys it, then Ubisoft will stop this nonsense. They are seeing how far they can go with pricing before the consumer says enough is enough.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force... as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.
This is standard Ubisoft fare. How is this different from the AC and Far Cry season passes?
@Jaz007 Should Geralt have been custom then? Ezio? Any GTA lead? Arthur Morgan?
Sounds like Ubisoft is the greediest cartel in the galaxy and The Hutts have nothing on them.
The cost for a mission is insane does this mean that the game only has 2 missions goin by there pricing
This doesn't seem like a big deal to me. The Season Pass is really just bundling future DLC; typically at a discounted rate to incentive purchasing it up front, but it's unclear if that's true here. If you're confident you want all the DLC, it makes a lot of sense to buy it. I happily bought the Season Pass for Spider-Man for this reason.
Then there's the bonus mission, which I get being annoyed about but don't really agree it's a problem either. In all likelihood, it's a small bit of filler content you won't miss at all if you don't have it. I guess I just don't have a problem with Day One DLC, as long as the main game still feels complete without it. If that content feels essential though, different story.
@DennisReynolds Should Skyrim have had Ezio? Cyberpunk Geralt? Depends on the game and series, this one screamed custom character.
There's a certain irony that the center of a scandal involving publisher greed involves withholding Jabba the Hutt.
@Jaz007 Your comparing RPG's to an open world action game. This is more like AC and has a linear story with a set character and world. Its no different to what Fallen Order done.
@DeathlySW I think there is an incoming beta or announcement about it on April 19th-21st if I recall seeing that correctly. For Xdefiant that is
@Octane The already have shown it with the Crew they will remove your access completely.
The Gaming Economy Bubble Starts to Pop, with layoffs everywhere and the Industry's Answer is to Over Price Games like this to try to make up for its losses, which Only Further Shows why the Gaming Industry is continuing to stay so out of Wack and Can't find it's equilibrium with its own customer base.
It's like watching an Airplane going into a Faster and Faster Graveyard spiral, they keep Whining and Doubling Down on Prices to make up for it, all the while not realizing that Our Wallets can't take it either, because they're Emptied out from this Economy too, and so the Gaming Airplane keeps accelerating towards the ground at ever higher speeds, and something's got to give, so unless they reevaluate and change their course with this "Current Inflated Price Per Value mindset", to a Model that Favors their Customer Base more, this Gaming Bubble is Not Shockingly, going to Quickly Crash to the Ground, just like it did in the 1980's.
Then your going to see Publishers and Developers Faces with the look of "Who Pumped the Puppy" on it, and guaranteed no one's going to take any kind of responsibility for it.
People are tired of (every company out there) making excuses for trying to Fish for more money out of their wallets, when were already over fished as it is.
I mean my wallet barely even has any water in it at this point, let alone fish in it, h*ll it's almost Puffing Dust Out at this point.
They need to do something constructive on their end, and quit trying to constantly pass the buck onto their customers.
Happy Gaming ✌!
I'm gonna buy the base game and not bother with the season pass. It's what I did with assassin's creed and I enjoyed those fine. I'm also not going to pay full price for the base game. People can charge what they want and I'll just wait for sales.
Greedy, crooked and filthy ritch Jabba. Why am i picturing nothing but Bobby Kotick in that thumbnail 🤔
@Phelaidar so the price of a normal brand new game then.
Excited for this game and hopes it turns out great but this is some bull**** adding a mission behind a paywall.. what's next we they gonna battle pass character upgrades
Would have bought this game but when you start making people pay extra money for single player missions I’m out. Too greedy. Maybe it will be on PS Plus soon since sales will be terrible
@DennisReynolds those new jedi games had a trash character anyway and were trash, cal kestis is a complete corny pipsqueak of a character, i heard he can't even beat one of vaders minions in a lightsaber dual or he struggles hard doing so, meanwhile starkiller was taking out giant monsters fresh out of a cloning vat.
@RubyCarbuncle The box art has a little box in the left bottom corner that says ''Internet required to install the game'', so yeah...
@Deityjester "i heard"? So you haven't played it but give a trash opinion anyway.
I'm done with Ubi at all. ...until they change themselves.
Seems to me there're a lot of very short-sighted comments on here. Everyone knows - or should know - that standard game prices have significantly failed to keep up with inflation over the decades, but if they had, prices we were paying back in the 1980s/90s would now mean AAA games would realistically be more like £80 or £90 (not £70).
But since gamers are unwilling to shell out more than £70 for games - even then, there are howls of complaint - companies have limited choices to recoup their costs. This is why we get the hated microtransactions, season passes etc., even in single player games.
Given this, I have no problem with companies putting out these seemingly expensive special editions - that no one is forcing you to buy - to make back some of their costs from the small minority willing to pay for them, so that everyone else can still get their (under-priced) games at £70. All you usually lose out on are some meaningless cosmetics or, as here, a single side mission from a game - if typically Ubisoft - that will be overstuffed with them anyway.
Personally, I never spend more than around £25 tops on games in any case - I just either wait a few months or buy second-hand - but I still understand how the economics of modern game pricing work, which I think people should consider a bit more deeply before ranting aimlessly.
Ubisoft are so good at charging an extortional price at launch to allow the like of me to pick it up at half price or less a year later. Why buy new when there are too many old games I still haven't touched.
@RubyCarbuncle You don't need a connection to play it. Only to install it.
Ubisoft are dreadful. They are starting to make EA look consumer-friendly.
I don't mind paying for DLC that's worth it to me, and sometimes a Season Pass can be more affordable than buying each DLC by itself. But we are talking about a full price pre-order right now and this news sucks. I'm usually very late and the game's been out for a while.
@Alps_Stranger Absolutely correct, the dramatic outrage gets worse with every new release.
Ubisoft Season Passes in single player games is not a new thing to trick people, they've always done it.
I don't get the big deal. This is a very similar deal to the AC Valhalla one, which included the Berserker Mission, which was later released to all, and the two large expansions. Allowing players to buy an ultimate edition including two expansions at a reduced price (season pass or individual expansions will likely cost more at launch) is fine. The core problem is no one knows how good the game is and whether they'd want to play the expansions. I was ultimately glad I got the ultimate edition for Valhalla because I wanted to experience the expansions, and I saved a little in the process.
In the end, the player has to decide whether or not to take a gamble on an early investment that may or not pay off based on their enjoyment of the game.
