Announced almost a whole year ago, PS1 platformer Tomba! is being revived as Tomba Special Edition β and now it's got a confirmed release date. It arrives for PS5 on the 1st August, with a promised PS4 version coming later.
The original game launched way back in 1997, and is fondly remembered to this day. It may not have had the mainstream pull of iconic PS1 platformers like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, but there was an undeniable charm to its quirky pig-infested world. Honestly, we can't wait to play it again.
As reported in 2023, Tomba Special Edition is being released both digitally on the PS Store, and physically via Limited Run Games.
Do you remember Tomba? Will you be diving into this welcome revival in a couple of months? Watch where you're leaping in the comments section below.

Wait til Dustin Furman hears about this!
Been looking forward to this one. Glad to finally see a release date.
No I don't remember Tomba but I do remember Tombi.
@zhoont Stand down
I remember renting this from Blockbuster forever ago as a little kid and then never seeing it again because I forgot what it was called. I honestly thought I made it up so I'm super psyched to see it make an appearance ππ€©
Iβm gonna buy this a million times. Tomba is one of my earliest memories from the end 90s as a child together with FFVII. So stocked to play again.
I was waiting for Sony to add this to the classics.
@emj2010 this! A million times this!
I remember the demo disc this was on. I miss demo discs.
I still have Tombi and Tombi 2, but definitely a day one purchase for me, one of the first games to have a Trophies type meta game in it...never got the race track one though and never fully finished the second. Damn they were so good but hard!
I could never finish it, I always didn't know what to do next so far in, but I loved the game regardless! I had a copy of it years ago but I sold it because I needed the money and it was going for a lot.
I got this on for PS3/Vita as a PS classic and enjoyed it immensely. I wonder (if like other classics) it will lead to a free download. I may still double dip as this game was fun!
This a straight port or is it remaster? Either way, quality little game, difficult though!
@BecauseBecause. It still goes for mad money. A used copy in the original PS1 jewel case frequently sales for $150 or more on eBay.

Great game - canβt wait for this!
I think I rented this from Blockbuster.
It's nice it to see more classic platformers, outside Mario and Sonic, got a revival. We got:
And now we will get Sly Cooper 1 ported for PS4/5 and Tomba collection.
If only we get a new Rayman too...
How classic! I played it as a demo from disc that came from gaming magazine! Love this one! It's my chance to play the full game this time ^__^
Hope they do the second one
Tombi! This brings back so many memories of the 90s and would have been a nice addition to the kinda nostalgic State of Play β¦
Letβs goooooooo!
I wonder if it'll be a remake or the PSX version running under emulation with enhancements? Either way I'll grab it for sure.
@feral1975 keep them forever if on disc! Invaluable
Can't wait to play Tombi again!!!! Almost not to get as physical version because I'm not a gazillionaire.
