This weekend's review bombing of Helldivers 2 over Sony's mandated PSN requirement even affected other games before the Japanese giant walked it back. Sucker Punch at least got out in front of the situation, as Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut was confirmed to only require PSN for its Legends multiplayer component, but as things spiralled, even the original Helldivers game suffered.
A remorseful-sounding Johann Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead and the creative director on Helldivers 2, revealed that his team's original game had become a target, sustaining some severe review bombing as frustrated fans vented their spleens.
After maintaining a Mostly Positive review score for years, Helldivers: Dive Harder quickly dropped to Mixed, with hundreds of negative reviews lodged in the last day alone. Pilestedt lamented the current state of affairs, writing: "It deeply saddens me that [Helldivers] is also being review bombed due to the recent [Helldivers 2] controversy. What's next? Review bombing Magicka and Gauntlet as well? Other PlayStation titles?"
Do you think aggrieved Helldivers 2 players on PC went too far? Let us know in the comments section below.

Show how stupid the internet can really be. Being upset is fine. But don’t take it out on things unrelated to it.
Should have apent that time creating an account 😂
@BeerIsAwesome people can just be terrible at that point 👉
Is this still a thing? Entitled gamers having a right old moan about anything and everything. I disable cross play because I just don't trust PC gamers not to cheat so in all honesty I could not care less about them even though I know not all of them are horror story's waiting to happen. Keep them separated.
Reflective of the childish overreaction by most. There was a real issue with those outside of PSN serviced countries potentially not being able to play but the real backlash was by those mildly inconvenienced and then acting outraged that their data could be scraped. Absolute babies about it.
@Northern_munkey "Is this still a thing? Entitled gamers having a right old moan about anything and everything."
This will unfortunately never stop being a thing. Gamers, like most humans on the internet, are generally awful.
Some life these people are living
People ARE review bombing Magicka 2 as well! Fortunately some people have taken to giving it positive reviews to try and offset the unjustified negative reviews.
@PS3Gamer Surely the review bombing on HD2 was enough to do that though, why attack unrelated titles? They've also review bombed their other games on Steam too, it's uncalled for. (Gauntlet and Magicka 2 have review bombing now, I've checked)
Childish and pathetic that's the words that first came to mind reading this. They probably don't want a psn sign in because they have pirated copies. There is no need for this reaction.
Pathetic. I can understand the upset from players in those countries that aren't serviced by PSN, but for the rest... grow up. You didn't mind signing up for a Rockstar Games account, Epic account for the freebies, EA play, Steam, Game Pass and the other countless accounts you need to sign up for to play on your PC. Let's face it, you don't like Sony encroaching in your "Master Race" world.
@BeerIsAwesome oh damn, i just realised I was looking at magicka 1 on steam, although a few review bombs are on the second one.
@BeerIsAwesome In the interest of fairness I just want to link this - https://firewalltimes.com/sony-data-breach-timeline/
They've been hacked more than once, but it's completely irrelevant to this conversation anyway. It was used as a focal point to support the pathetic outrage of the loudest and dumbest complainers. Some would have known that creating an account would contain nothing of interest in a worst case scenario, but most latched on to it completely uneducated on the matter.
Microsoft's breaches by the way - https://firewalltimes.com/microsoft-data-breach-timeline/
Though as you said, there's complete silence on every required account creation for them.
I think it's all a bit silly. Children, no matter the age of them. We are in an age where we no longer own the cassette, we get continual updates to keep games top line and a request to have a psn for metrics and whatnot isn't a world killer. You can't buy an EA game off steam, even single player, without them needing you to login. Rockstar are worse.
If you don't like it stick to console gaming. You sign in there too but less invasive.
Wow, PC players are just pathetic. I've never seen anyone throw their dummy out of the pram as hard as these guys.
Looks like the babies got what they wanted.

PC nerds. I hope they all get the sh its
Generally speaking, review bombing is childish. Maybe the majority that did this are children with underdeveloped brains.
Welcome to the PCMR... the PC Moron Race. (And yes, before anyone objects... I also game on PC.)
Imagine being that petty over creating an account... something which shouldn't have been any surprise, because the game's Steam page told you it would be necessary. If you didn't read or didn't see it, that's on you, and maybe Steam for not making it more obvious.
Now, I get that some people won't be able to do so easily because PSN isn't available in their region, but let's not forget the fact that lots of people have been creating PSN accounts for regions other than their actual location for many years, sometimes for things as trivial as a free avatar image; it is possible to work around it. Many people have accounts for Europe, the US, and Japan.
The rest of the people are just being petty and idiotic. I've had to create numerous accounts over the years on services I don't otherwise use, whether it's been a requirement or just optional to get the most out of games. I have accounts with EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Rockstar, Krafton... probably more I can't even remember... none of which I use regularly, and none of which serve any significant purpose beyond the one game they were created for.
Grow a pair, get over it, move on.
@UltimateOtaku91 If that's the case, let's see if all those perfectly rational people now go and also do the right thing by deleting their negative reviews. 🤔
Never underestimate the power of petulant gamers with nothing better to do than wield the power of their parents' internet connection to wreak havoc upon the world of gaming reviews.
Yeah, I think the reaction was embarrassing and pathetic.
PC "Master Race" of immature snowflakes.
I am ashamed being a gamer……
Gaming 2024 in a nutshell
All I can say is these people that review bomb are sad petty little p*****
