FromSoftware's misery-maker-in-chief, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has confirmed that the imminent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, arriving on PS5 and PS4 on 21st June, will be the "first and last" piece of additional content the game receives. However, the possibility of an Elden Ring sequel was not ruled out.
Miyazaki told Chinese publication Zhihu (thanks, GamesRadar+) that unlike games in the Dark Souls trilogy, which received multiple expansions, "[Shadow of the Erdtree] is the first and last DLC, and we have no plans to add more content to Elden Ring".
Elaborating, Miyazaki explains the rationale for a single Elden Ring expansion, which has to do with the game's open world setting: "Elden Ring emphasizes exploration and adventure in a big world. In order to provide such an experience, a vast and huge setting is inevitably needed. Therefore, instead of splitting it into several parts, it was better to simply make one big [expansion]. If they were sold separately, the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure would be reduced."
