Update: Just to confirm, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has launched today with zero Trophies. While this isn't the first time for a FromSoftware expansion to eschew gongs entirely, the sheer scale of the add-on means their absence will come as a disappointment to some. Still, we suspect you'll be playing the expansion regardless, and you'll find our Elden Ring guide a huge help if you are.
Original Article: Shadow of the Erdtree, the massive Elden Ring expansion that's releasing on the 21st June, won't bring any new Trophies to the open world RPG. This info comes from the ever-reliable PlayStation Game Size, and we can't help but be left baffled by FromSoftware's decision.
As you may know, Trophy support is mandatory for all newly released PlayStation games — but that's not the case for DLC. However, this supposedly monstrous expansion is priced at £34.99 / $39.99, so for it to completely skip Sony's digital trinkets seems absurd.
This isn't the first time that the Japanese developer has ignored Trophies, though. To date, the only FromSoftware DLC to sport additional gongs is Bloodborne's The Old Hunters — and that was partly developed by Sony's own Japan Studio.
Still, it's 2024, and one of the biggest, most anticipated expansions of our time doesn't have Trophies. How do you feel about this? We're confident the DLC will be superb regardless, but feel free to express disappointment in the comments section below.

People will scoff at those who like trophies like they usually do, but this is actually crazy. What an odd choice. They're throwing potential sales away for no reason.
Meanwhile Sea of Thieves added 195 trophies on top of the base 59, no excuses.
Thank god , that means it stays at 100% completion and i dont have to suffer this game again. The last couple of hours of Elden ring were so bad.
@Kanji-Tatsumi who is deciding not to buy dlc because it's not got trophies? like all their other dlc that has sold that also didn't have trophies
I think because I’m mostly over my addiction to trophies; I’m kinda okay with this. Plus don't DLCs usually just have a bunch of bronzes anyway.
@JPEGMakima Plenty of people. There are entire communities like PStrophies and PSNprofiles dedicated to it. No reason to alienate them when adding trophies is so easy
@Kanji-Tatsumi that's kinda insane to me honestly like the entire thing looks amazing but because there are no trophies it's enough to make ya go "actually no I won't enjoy this anymore"
And I was asking for a Plat trophy? 😂😂😂
What a joke
Not unusual for FromSoft. DS3 dlc had no trophies. DS2 SoTS dlc were folded into the main trophy list for magic etc. sekiro had no dlc trophies. DS1 had none. Afaik only Bloodborne did
I am sour about this news.
@JPEGMakima it's not really "I won't enjoy this anymore" unless you're the top 1% of trophy hunters that literally play anything and everything for trophies. Its more of a case of "I like trophies, why does one of the biggest releases of the year not have any?". There is no reason to not add them when those who like them can collect them, and those who don't can ignore them 🤷♂️
@AndyKazama I mean... Sekiro doesn't have any DLC.
@Malaise Have you not read any news or even previews? It's a big DLC.
It feels odd, trophies in the base games are always a good way to see if you missed anything major, guess I'll have to be extra thorough in the Land of Shadow.
Meh I'm still going to play ***** put of it, and I had the Platinum on the OG Elden Ring
These companies miss out on thousands of people purchasing DLC by not having trophies. Surely it doesn't take much?
In 2024 Trophies are so common and expected, this is just weird.
I get that it makes no sense not to include some. But it wouldve mostly been made up of defeating all the bosses and dungeons/beating the game which is already an achievement (trophy doesn't sound as good here lol) in and of itself
WTF??? They are crazy or what?
Meanwhile Stellar Blade had trophies in a free update.
@JPEMy trophy farming group friends and I will all cancel pre-ordering it because there are no trophies. There's no reason to play it on ps5 without trophiesGMakima
Good. Trophies are toxic af
Bottom line is it was their choice, and anybody surprised hasn't been paying attention. This is on brand for them.
@yazzika trophies are toxic now? These modern buzz words need to be dialed back man, they've lost all meaning
As much as I love FromSoftware and their games, if there’s no trophies that’s gonna be a (sad & disappointed) pass from me. I’m a trophy hunter and for an expansion of this size not to have them is a massive FAIL, although I can’t say it’s unexpected given their history.
@DETfaninATL So you value trophies more than actually gaming?
Glad Nintendo never went this route.
Shame but this is typical From so not shocking.
Fewer developer challenges and tasks. That’s just lazy and shows a lack of care for their player base.
Wow wtf! Naaaaahhhh...
This is kind of surprising. They typically have trophies for their DLC, and I’m proud to show off my 100% completion rate for Bloodborne. So, this is rather disappointing. Then again, I think it’s also great, in the sense that I can immerse myself in this world and not worry if I’m doing something wrong or I’m missing something. I’m just going to play, absorb everything I can, and go from there.
I guess it does track with previous DLC, but I was kinda looking forward to 100% the game again on both PS4 & PS5...
Personally I don't like the trophy system, it's more a clutter than anything.
these comments are blowing my mind!!! in the same breath people saying "this is a horrible decision" and then turning around and saying "well at least i can enjoy the game now, without worrying about a plat". guys! get a grip!
"Fewer developer challenges and tasks. That’s just lazy and shows a lack of care for their player base." WTF??? this dev spends two years making a massive DLC and because it doesnt have an arbitrary list of tasks to complete they dont care about their player base? lunacy.
Definitely a super weird decision, but they don't seem to care about trophies. I still remember feeling so weird about artorias's dlc not having any trophies.
I am unsure if I will get this anyways, what with the backlog being so massive.
I will definitely watch it if I don't end up buying it though.
That’s disappointing and a weird omission on the part of From Software. Good thing the expansion will likely be amazing.
What a... O_O
OK then, on my way to cancel the pre-order...
...
...
...
Yeah, right... it's Elden Ring man!
If anyone cares more about trophies than playing this excellent game, then it's not for them anyway.
@man_what preach brother, guess they'll be missing out on an amazing experience.
@Cherip-the-Ripper "developer challenges and tasks" is if the entire game (and all games ever made) arent literally a collection of "developer challenges and tasks"...
@Nepp67 what's boss rush then?
Got a feeling how From loves the Sense of Discovery, they lowkey hate trophies and only add them because it's mandatory on the main game why? Probably because trophies give some information by pressing box on hidden trophies. I mean you look at gold trophies and you kinda have an idea who's the final boss, and this is a dev that loves to hide stuff. Still, this is rather disappointing.
Kind of disappointing but I'm also glad.
On one hand trophies are a good guide to feel a sense of completion and a good guide to ensuring if you've got all available weapons without looking online for guides.
Trophies can make you seek out areas of a game you might otherwise miss. Or even bosses you don't know about.
But on the other side I'm glad I won't be experiencing a kind of checklist with this DLC and I can just play it and enjoy it for what it is.
@man_what Gotta love the logic am I right? These guys think trophies require more effort than the actual development of a game.
@AndyKazama I mean eh? Other than the bosses getting some new moves you're not doing anything different or new here. It's literally the same bosses you fought in the campaign but as a boss rush.
OMG no trophies? What ever will I do? It really makes no difference to me either way. Elden ring is one of my all time fave games and I'll be getting the dlc without hesitation. WTF did you guys do back in the days before trophies were a thing? Oh that's right most of you probably were not born or were hanging off your mother's titties...get a grip people.
@Northern_munkey You need to relax guy. Plenty of people like trophies, you can't deny it's become an expectation after 16 years. Let people enjoy them, if it doesn't bother you maybe just don't get involved?
@Recover20 it's just my opinion. Feel free to hit that ignore button or just take your own advice and not get involved!
I doubt it would’ve been hard for them to do a Bloodborne-esque DLC trophy list where you defeat the main bosses and collect new weapons. Most people playing the DLC will be doing that anyways. It would’ve been easy to meet trophy hunters halfway there IMO. Still going to play it after SMT V: Vegenance
@MisterNintendo No, I value trophies as a PART of gaming, albeit a significant one. And it wouldn't matter if Nintendo went that route or not. The vast majority of proprietary games on their platform just don't interest me. But don't get me wrong - it's a pass for now. I may end up playing the expansion at some point in the future because I thoroughly enjoy the 'FromSoft formula'. There are just other games I'd rather play for the time being that do have trophies I can hunt, which I enjoy doing.
@Northern_munkey With all due respect, there's no need to be denigrating to people who like to hunt trophies or play games a particular way. Ever heard the saying "to each their own"? What harm is it to you how other people enjoy the trophy or achievement system in games? Why be so rude? What's the point of that? You enjoy your games your way and let others do the same. Just because you play games a particular way doesn't mean you're any better (or worse) than those who don't enjoying gaming like you do.
Trophies are usually a needless inclusion. It's not like I dislike them, but they don't need to exist for everything. It lets people play the game the way they want to instead of being led along by pointless tasks that they wouldn't have given a second thought otherwise.
Didn’t dark souls two have more trophies?
Anyway, not having them for a hugely anticipated DLC is so weird and stupid
I honestly couldn’t care less about trophies, but it does seem like an odd choice.
@DETfaninATL like I said it's my opinion. If people don't agree with my view then just block me. If you like trophy hunting then great (I'm not against it as I have 6 plats) but I just don't see how it affects how good a game is if it does not have them. Once again it's my personal opinion and you have voiced your opinion something we are both allowed to do.
Only maidenless care about trophies
@Kanji-Tatsumi
That would imply that those people only play games for the trophies.
Very mixed feelings here.
I love collecting trophies as much as possible (not a massive completionist, I aim to get at least 50% if it's a harder game to plat, like the Yakuza games) and it's really helpful if you need a clue for what to do next.
But Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be an epic experience either way.
Jesus this is a nightmare… Good thing I didn’t preorder it. Wont be playing this then, and it was literally my most anticipated thing all year 😭 Fromsoft are ridiculous for this,
Disappointing not gonna lie but this DLC may go down as one of the greatest DLCs of all time. Most likely a 9 or 10/10 from most reviewers.
Would be crazy not to play it just due lack of trophy support (coming from an OCD trophy hunter where every game in my list has to be at 100 percent).
Very poor choice, I'll be getting the DLC way down the road when it's dirt cheap.
I actually don't like when trophies are added after I've platinum the game, I will be happily playing the dlc with my 100% platinum 😄
I’m flabbergasted that I’m reading from lots of you in here that you’re going to skip playing the DLC because there aren’t any trophies…. Like, what?
It makes no sense to me whatsoever that companies would lose thousands of sales because there aren’t trophies. What the heck planet and timeline am I in. 🤦♂️
@ChromaticDracula but they will lose alot of money because they didn't add trophies,
So many people look forward to trophies, also as a sense of accomplishment, and sometimes they add a degree of fun/difficulty, playing how you wouldn't sometimes, it's a fact that trophy hunting is massive in gaming, whether you like it or not,
Amazing as the game looks, I am one that will not buy it at launch because of no trophies, I will eventually but some point down the line for 60% less or so,
I mean it couldn't have been too hard to add 5 or 6 trophies right, literally would have made a huge difference
@JPEGMakima For me its a wait on a discount or a GOTY edition with everything on disc the expansion is a voucher so no hurry to spend a ton of money. Especially their €200 edition with a voucher.
@Uromastryx I agree it's something to work towards gives a extra feeling of accomplishment. I don't have a lot of time and i got used to getting trophies without it feels like I'm missing something.
Fromsoft has never had trophies in any of their dlcs don't know why people seem surprised u have play a game from them to know this by now lol people who won't play something without trophies get over yourself u don't need a award.
@neon-xxiv read a guide then on the Internet
Not a big drama, but a bit disappointing. I do love that feeling of ending a game (or dlc) and do the ritualistic mop up of trophies in the games that I enjoy the most. And yes, this dlc I'm gonna enjoy that's for sure
That is a shame… in all honesty with FromSoftware games I like the trophies just so I can see roughly how many other people have beat certain bosses and feel good about myself (after hours of screaming at the tv.)
DLC all downloaded though, so let the glorious torture commence!
@neon-xxiv the game is clearly not for you, and thats ok.
But very point of elden ring is that there is no handholding and youre free to explore at your own pace. Its ok to miss some things, youre not ment to see everything on every playthrought.
I'm happy about this news. I've recently given up trophies and turned off the notifications. It was affecting the way I was gaming and I was putting way too much stock into them. I feel like they are a way to feed gaming addiction, and I believe that people who say they use them as a guide etc are actually just hooked on them.
I don't care about trophies, it's fine to ignore them.
@Kanji-Tatsumi if not having trophies is a deal breaker for anyone concerning this particular dlc, they’re only hurting themselves.
Imagine not playing this fine piece of game because of something as worthless as trophies
Definitely not getting it now. If I can’t hold my fake ass trophy aloft and brag about my achievements to friends then I won’t be getting it
@neon-xxiv "Im cancelling my pre order because it doesn't have trophies" Im glad I do not think this way for a game I'm excited about. Gotta be the most nonsensical way of thinking I've ever seen.
No trophies, not interested. I’ll wait for the steepest of sales before I support From with this *****
I’ll be perfectly honest, the dlc is so damn hard that it very well may be the first piece of fromsoft content I don’t beat. A very particular boss that is a callback to Dark Souls 3 is just…unreal. I don’t think trophies would feel as good as killing it, but six hours of death after powering up is pretty poor tuning
Want to break free from the shackles of pointless trophy hunting?
Turn off trophy notifications in PS4/PS5 settings and enjoy your games like you did when you were a kid without internet
I don’t really mind. Sometimes it’s fun to go for a platinum, but beating the end boss is the main focus for me. Never realized people actually care about this so much. I couldn’t imagine not playing a game because it doesn’t have trophies.
Growing up is realizing trophy’s don’t mean anything
A well curated trophy list encourages me to experience a game to its fullest, important given how expensive games are these days.
I like trophies. I end up spending more time with the game because of them. I don't get 100% often, on a rare occasion I do , I feel excited. I wish Switch had them.
