In case you haven't already heard, the newly released Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring is now the highest-rated DLC of all time, settling on a staggering PS5 Metacritic score of 95. But of course, where one game rises, another must fall — and so The Witcher 3's brilliant Blood and Wine expansion has been knocked from its throne, which it's held for over eight years.
But The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red is acting with admirable grace in its defeat. It's congratulated Elden Ring and FromSoftware in a fresh social media post, which reads: "For the last 8 years, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine had the honor of being the best reviewed expansion for a role-playing game — but @ELDENRING gets to wear that crown now. Congratulations to the entire team at @fromsoftware_pr on their stellar work!"
The coolest part, though? It's produced a fantastic piece of artwork to mark the occasion, which depicts The Witcher protagonist Geralt, sword and trident in hand, standing over the bloodied corpse of an infamous Elden Ring boss.
It's always cool when greatness recognises greatness in this industry, and as regular readers will know, it's even better when bespoke artwork is part of the deal.

Classy move right there
That's nice. FromSoftware has further upped the graphics in this SoTE. Just enjoying the artistic sites and forgetting this is supposed to be a difficult game.
Been playing all day and its brilliant. Will say it took awhile to get my mojo back though haha.
@TheArt Yeah visually its far better then the already pretty base game. Framerate is still pretty rough though, it dropped pretty hard once in the first big boss encounter for me.
Imagine how high they would have scored with trophies /s
I thought that he hated portals.
@WhiteRabbit @DennisReynolds Haha I know y'all had that "stepping out of the Cave of Knowledge to the Lands Between first time" moment when you stepped in the Realm of Shadow.
What an awesome thing to take the time to do, Blood and Wine was a beautiful experience, the land and it's aesthetic was ethereal, the enhancements to combat were sublime.
I guess CD Projekt Red now have no choice but to make a new DLC for The Witcher 3 that tops Shadow of the Erdtree!
@TheArt Yeah took a screenshot straight away.
@DennisReynolds Same thing I did.
This is really cool, and fair play to CDPR here. Loving Erdtree so far, great to see another industry behemoth salute FromSoft for their stellar work.
Great response from CDPR! Awesome art... and I could totally see Geralt doing his thing in the lands between!
Pure class! Kudos CDPR
Hello there fellow gamers.
I love when videogame developers do this kind of thing.
Almost like a crossover art style between two different games.
Kudos for CD Projekt Red acknowledging this immense feat.
And yes, just like @DennisReynolds and @TheArt I also took a srceenshot of the very begining of the Realm of Shadow in Elden Ring. It was a, "Man, this looks so good" moment.
Been enjoying myself exploring the intial area and the first Legacy Dungeon and its Boss. It was a very difficult fight.
Having an absolute Blast with this DLC.
Cheers and happy gaming everyone
