Publisher Capcom says the legendary Mega Man represents one of the company's most "highly valued IPs" and is looking into how to make more games in the series in the future.
The news came from the company's recent general shareholders meeting, and IGN listened along. In surprisingly optimistic news for Mega Man fans, a shareholder asked if any plans were in progress for the franchise. They were told: "Mega Man is one of our highly-valued IPs, and we are considering how to create games for it on an ongoing basis."
Mega Man is big business, selling over 41 million copies across the series, so this is good stuff for everybody involved. The last mainline entry was Mega Man 11, released in 2018 and available on PS4. In other Capcom news, the publisher says it's not ready to pull the plug on physical releases despite the overwhelming majority of its digital sales.

Mega Man was never my cup of tea (don't like trial and error aspects of it) but I did enjoy the Battle Network games as a kid.
I'd rather have Megaman X9 with Megaman X1-3 or X4-6 type of visuals, just like they did with Megaman 9, 10 and 11.
X7 and X8 with 3d graphics completely turned me off. They were also pretty bad games.
Soulslike megaman please in full 3D 🙏
I bought Mega Man 11 on day 1 and love it. But it's been 6 years since 11 released and i'm surprised Capcom didn't make a new Mega Man despite 11 is the highest selling game in the franchise.
And it's about time for Mega Man Legend 1 & 2 + Misadventure Tron Bonne collection. Capcom already did:
That's only left Legend, Star Force, and some spin off for collection like Mega Man Soccer, Power Battle, MM & Bass.
@PuppetMaster either remaster or remake megaman legends 1 and 2 and then release a megaman legends 3. RE engine would be great for these games
If they aren’t sure what to do with it and want them on an ongoing basis, let devs pitch for it. There will be so many teams with amazing ideas for Mega Man across genres and dimensional planes.
Would love a Mega Man game in the same vein of a Ratchet and Clank game
@BamBamBaklava89 exactly they need to up the budget for their next Mega Man game I wonder how it would look running on the resident evil graphics engine
Lets get Mega man Legends 1 and 2 out there on modern hardware please
@RoliePolie91 Yeah i don't mind a remake with RE engine but i also take a remaster / port. Whatever Capcom do, i will support it.
@BamBamBaklava89 R&C Rift Apart cost $81 million which in the AAA level and it "only" sold 2.7 million copies. Although Sony / Insomniac made a profit with the game.
But I doubt Capcom will spend that much for a Mega Man game, not when the highest selling game in the franchise needs 4 years to sell 1.6 million copies
@PlayStation_Dawg1994 Is it really such a big IP to make that investment? As gamers we need to understand they make games to make money in the end. And games nowadays have a problem with to much inflated budgets and not making back their money.
They definitely need to do a remaster of the Mega Man Legends games. They still look surprisingly good today due to the art style.
They could just improve it by adding things like grass and increasing the draw distance. Add modern controls and I think it would be quite good.
Colin liked that
Someone else posted the idea somewhere that they should make a Mega Man Metroidvania. I'm fully onboard for this and think it would be a brilliant fit.
No doubt Megaman soulslike, roguelite, Metroidvania ***** incoming then.
The older titles are going for mad money these days in mint condition, even not so mint still expensive
Give it to Colin and let him make his dream game!
@PuppetMaster I think power battle 1 and 2 are on the capcom arcade collections. The megadrive megaman 1-3 would be nice too since they were on megadrive mini and nintendo switch online recently so it could be possible.
I'd like a throwback to the 32-bit pixel visuals of the PS1 days, rather than the goofy looking 2.5D Hello Kitty ***** that was Megaman 11.
Nah actually I don't think they could pull this off. Well they could, they just won't lol
I will gladly take more Megaman games, Capcom. The Blue Bomber is missed…
WE NEED A MM LEGENDS REMASTER!!!
Man... i really want them to revive breath of fire though.
@PuppetMaster the biggest blow MM suffered so far was the very recent departure of Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, the man responsible for bringing him back into the big picture and responsible for all the collections. It felt like a real nail in the coffin on top of the sudden six year absence.
@Beetlebum91 Yeah i saw Power Battle 1 & 2 for Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium. And iirc i also played Power Battle 1 in SF 6 Battle Hub.
@Yousef- Tsuchiya was Mega Man 11 producer right? I hope Capcom can find another good talent to handle Mega Man franchise.
@PuppetMaster yes he was. all the guys behind MM11 were really passionate Capcom, I hope someone carry the torch.
Meryl Streep shouting meme
