Last week, Forbes writer Paul Tassi raised concerns that some of the in-game icons in The First Descendant looked strikingly similar to those used in Destiny 2. The story was widely reported, and in a statement to IGN, publisher Nexon admitted that Destiny 2 "served as an inspiration during the development process" and that the icons in question will be changed in a future update.
While Nexon doesn't explain exactly how so many similar icons made it into the game, it maintains that these concerns have been taken seriously and that changes will be made in order to differentiate the icons in a future update. The publisher's statement in full can be read below:
"The First Descendant, as a looter shooter game, was developed with a deep affection and respect for other games in the genre. Destiny 2, being a globally renowned looter shooter game, is also personally admired and respected by the team, and it has served as an inspiration during the development process. We have taken the concerns raised seriously and decided to make adjustments to ensure that the imagery that may appear similar clearly reflects the unique identity of our game. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the looter shooter genre."
