Sea of Stars won hearts and minds with its colourful aesthetic and appealing, classic gameplay when it was released in 2023. Now, a full year after launch, developer Sabotage has offered a brief update on its upcoming story DLC and intriguing cooperative mode, promising that more information will be coming this year.
Observed by GamesRadar+, on X, the official Sea of Stars account confirmed that "production on the DLC is going well" and that more details would follow. A similar response was given to another punter, who enquired about co-op and was told: "We're still working on it. More details will come later this year!"
Sea of Stars was a hit with critics and fans alike, with the plucky little title securing some four million sales, and that was back in December. We'll eagerly await a reason to return to its compelling world, and we will let you know as soon as we learn more.

I've not picked it up yet, but I do absolutely plan to, so nice to see that there is still life in the project.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the game, but by the time I got the fairly grindy platinum, I was more than ready to move on.
I can't see myself heading back in so long after the base game came out to play the DLC. I'd have to basically relearn how to play the game, and I've likely forgotten many of the details of the story.
It was one of my favorite games of last year, but my backlog is making threatening gestures at me as I type this.
4 million sales and Day 1 release on both PS+ & Game Pass… impressive. Looking forward to the story DLC
Played it on switch and was a masterpiece, really looking forward to this dlc
I did pick it up but was disappointed by the end.
They have a nice thing going if they stick to it, but i don't like this cross genre thing they got going. I don't want to have to play the messenger to be able to piece things together. It's not a genre i enjoy. I felt that cut the legs on this title. Like they purposely held off on giving a satisfying resolution to the story to make room for some other genre they want to make. I am not enough of a fan of them that i will play whatever they put out, so i can't get invested.
I loved Sea of Stars. It was another great modernization of the classic JRPG formula and I'll definitely play the DLC.
I'll freely admit to drinking Sabotage's Kool-aid. I played The Messenger and it's DLC too.
I enjoyed this game when it came out. I'm not sure this DLC is enough to bring me fully back into it. I hope it's enjoyable for anyone who does get it.
Finally started it the other week after waiting for the physical version (and finishing Rebirth!) — think I'm about a third of the way into it, given the estimate play time. Aside from a few minuscule niggles, it's pretty much everything I hoped it would be and I'm having a blast — hopefully there'll be something a bit more solid on the DLC front by the time I'm done!
Sea of Stars is a great game, but I think the ending dragged on quite a bit, so much so that I was rushing through dialogue in order to get the game over with. If the game had been trimmed by five hours I think I would have considered it a modern masterpiece. Regardless, I’m very much looking forward to the DLC — it might even give me a reason to go back and get the platinum trophy.
Skipped this one, would probably buy if it gets couch co-op though.👍
I wasn't a fan of the platforming padding and it put me off half way, saying it's an rpg is an understatement really like calling gran turismo an rpg, I don't think I would be interested in the dlc if I couldn't finish the main game so I have to pass on this one
