Publisher Atari continues its mission to bring back its classic games with the just-announced Fatal Run 2089. Developed by MNSTR Studio, this is an arcade combat racer set in a post-apocalyptic world, and it's drifting onto PS5.

Made using Unreal Engine 5, the game has you racing across four regions and 20 levels, each with shortcuts to find and obstacles to dodge as you go. This is a combat racer, meaning you'll equip various weapons to take down rival racers — or you can just smash into them in your Mad Max-looking ride.

Interestingly, there's some semblance of story to contextualise the action. "In the aftermath of a comet collision that bathed Earth in deadly radiation, humanity's remnants have formed fierce factions of wasteland warriors," reads the press release. "In Fatal Run 2089, you join a courageous group of scientists known as the ‘Engineers.’ Your critical mission: transport ARCs—advanced clean energy devices designed to purify the atmosphere—to essential population hubs worldwide."

Any excuse for some raucous arcade racing is fine by us. There's no release date yet, but it's "coming soon" according to the trailer. What are your thoughts on Fatal Run 2089? Dodge falling buildings in the comments section below.
