Hunt: Showdown has banished its PS4 version to the dustbin of history, launching the Unreal Engine 5-enhanced PS5 iteration called Hunt: Showdown 1896. In addition, it brings the new Mammon's Gulch map for players to get lost in, boasting some 16 unique compounds scattered across its vast alpine biome.
In addition to boosted visuals, players can look forward to a smattering of quality-of-life and UX/UI improvements. PS4 players can rest easy knowing that all previously purchased DLC will find their way to Hunt: Showdown 1896 on PS5, able to safely enjoy Crytek's vaunted technical upgrades.
If you didn't know, Hunt: Showdown is a multiplayer first-person shooter that offers two game modes, Bounty Hunt and Soul Survivor. Bounty Hunt tasks teams of players with working together to uncover the location of specific bosses and will need to extract from randomly determined points on the map once the kill has been confirmed.
Soul Survivor, meanwhile, is a faster-paced spin on battle royale. Players compete against each other, and the victor can take their survivor, with all collected traits and equipment, into Bounty Hunt.

While the update is great, its UI took far too much inspiration from COD MW2022's UI design and man does it make frustrating to navigate.
Will it run at 4k 60fps? I guess I'll find out on the next episode of digital foundry
Enjoyed this when it first came out but it’s been quite a while since I’ve played. Sounds like it’s a good time to fire it up again!
Correction: It is CryEngine not Unreal Engine
@Randinator123
Best guess 730@60fps or 1080@30fps
Honestly, i have no idea why devs want to use this engine - im sure it will look fantastic in 5yrs time, but it looks awful atm along with very poor resolution / framerates.
@Randinator123 They confirmed it a while back that it would run at 4k 60
@Randinator123 not sure about the resolution but it’s definitely 60fps. Very smooth too. I did notice slight stutters going into hunt vision next to a clue and more annoyingly when you get shot by other players.
Game looks really good too.
Redownloaded!
Was always absolutely terrible at this with as much patience and stealth as a rampaging buffalo. But did have some epic moments and the atmosphere in the game was incredible.
Lol. Game is built on CryEngine...
The community is super pissed about the horrendous UI "upgrade" so I think they still have some work to do.
Banishes to the dustbin of history 🤣 this is y I love coming to this site all this personality 😉
No unreal engine here it's cry engine 5.1
@Godot25 that’s what I’m saying. Like how do you ***** this up??? Like the name of the studio behind the game is literally the name of the engine lol 😂
I must have put over 1000 hours into the PS4 version, the game loop is just so addictive and the tension is unreal especially when you have the bounty and you know there's a team or two outside the building just waiting for you to come out. But I had to force myself away from the game as I was neglecting all the single player games and my backlog was piling up.

Bought this on ps5 last march and was really impressed especially with headphones on.
As soon as I heard about big update I put it on hold and now can't wait to try it when back from hols.

Back to the bayou boys!
@Frmknst Coming from the PS4 version there’s no denying there is a big upgrade to the graphics. Not that I would have ever called Hunt a bad looking game anyways. As for sterile and empty maps, I don’t know what more they could do? They are perfectly suited to this type of game and packed with tons of interesting highly detailed areas to explore that are pretty atmospheric (especially at night). Plus the open areas make for tense gameplay as you run across them hoping no one is watching you. Out of curiosity, How would you improve the maps?
pretty bad journalism when you just assume a game uses unreal 5 despite you know the game is made by Cryteck so obviously is using their own game engine CryEngine
