Lies of P emerged fully formed into a world full of Soulslikes and, even then, still managed to stand out. It should be no surprise that developer Neowiz is working on a sequel, as the game thankfully sold quite appreciably, too. Still, the studio looks like it will jump several stages on the FromSoftware evolutionary ladder, with the next game potentially going open world ala Elden Ring.
That's according to a job listing spotted by Tech4gamers (thanks, Insider Gaming), which calls for many things, among them "extensive experience playing open world games." In addition, the successful applicant would need to be familiar with "action creation, tool development, mini-game development and [have] open world experience."
Information is quite sparse on the puppet sequel, although we know Neowiz will make the jump to Unreal Engine 5, which is nice. We also got some moody, atmospheric artwork depicting the direction the next game is headed, featuring a foundered ship in icy waters. Perhaps P will finally get to have his climactic encounter with the character's arch-enemy: the vicious, gigantic sperm whale known as Monstro!
Are you a fan of Lies of P? What, if anything, are you specifically hoping to see from the sequel? Tell no fibs in the comments section below.

Im still playing, and it's a great game..Enjoying so much..Cant't wait for the sequel..
I still have yet to play this but will definitely pick it up when it hits a good price point of about 50% off.
Not usually prone to hyperbole but this game might be the best soulslike since Bloodborne, with an interesting world and story as well.
LoP is one of the best Soulslike ever made and even challenges From's work in my opinion so i'm very excited for the next one especially with the tease of a certain character i won't spoil in the true ending.
Yuck! I need that gif of Michael Scott screaming NO
I'm all in on this one. Lies of p was great, and in many ways a step above the aging bones of the "copy and paste roughly the same unchanged thing with a modestly different coat of paint" formula that fromsoft has been milking for 15 years.
So PS6 in 2028?
Loved everything about the first game. Im not quite sure what to think of them goong open world but im still hopeful
I really don’t think open world fits the genre. I don’t think ER is replicable. Even ER DLC which was basically ER 2 came and went rapidly.
Lies of P was an amazing game (in my best 3 last year along with Hogwarts and SM2), with an atmosphere all of its own, but a move to open world / UE5 just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen (so fingers crossed these clearly talented devs keep on top of it).
The linear-ish nature of the 1st game really worked and i enjoyed it more than elden ring (which i thought was ok but overrated) - the characters, combat, and music were all excellent.
The engine and framerate felt really solid too, and i still use it as an example of a 3rd party title done really well on a technical level.
@Loamy
It really was on the harder side, but i thought overall it was fair enough. I completed most of the game pre boss nerfs, but did struggle a bit with the last final boss, who shall remain nameless...
A lot of the bosses did have exploitable weaknesses, but some did have some very OP moves too.
They could easily have added a difficulty level just by adding in a damage scaler eg easy mode would be 75% received, output 125% against normal.
Awesome news. I welcome the open world formula but I understand that some people won't like it. I didn't think lies of p was too difficult once you learned that all the bosses telegraph their powerful one hit death moves quite generously and some of the weapon builds could be quite over powered but I loved it. Wukong has given me the urge to go back and replay my souls like games again because there is always new ways to play and things I never discovered. Still need to get the plat on "p."
So now maybe 2 games I will skip, Elden Ring 2 if open world since open world was not good in Elden Ring and Lies of P 2 if going open world.
@Loamy
I would guess it was the scrapped watchman (electric robot like puppet, who looked a bit like a policeman) - if so, yeah, he was a bit of a gate keeper because he forced you into playing a certain way (with limited build/weapon options) and not dodging all the time - though i still dodged a lot of the time!
No idea why they all dont add in a simple damage modifier difficulty level to make games like this a little more accessible - I beat melenia (probably about try 20 to 30, no one ive seen/read talks about it but she hates the spell Ancient death rancor), and Nioh 2 including all dlc on NG+ so the the 'git gud' argument doesnt really apply, but I fully appreciate that at least a simple difficulty modifier would only be a good thing for all games of this type.
I've yet to play this, but is top of my list when I next play one of these games. As I've just finished Shadow of the Erdtree, it is going to be awhile.
Is there supposed to be an expansion released, or is that not happening anymore?
yeah but DLC WHEN. Can't wait for the DLC and the sequel. Can't wait to see their take on the wizard of oz.
I loved Lies of P and really look forward to the sequel. Hopefully it won't take too long in the making because as a man in my 60s my reactions are not what they once were! Definitely a day one buy for me, though open world does not necessarily mean better as I actually really liked the more linear approach of the first game.
For me, had BG3 not released in the same year, LoP would have deservedly won every Game of the Year award going...
Maybe this time we’ll get Walt Disney as the final boss.
@Khayl Isn't the concept art you're referencing (and have featured in this article) for the DLC, not the sequel?
@KundaliniRising333 Sorry what? The elden Ring was not copy and paste by any means. Look if you are go to talk smack do it good.
Also we had several gameplay changes the slow and calculated Demon Souls/ Dark Souls gameplay, Bloodborne went for a fast and aggressive gameplay style, Sekiro was more parry based and Elden Ring open world massive exploration.
I will go out on a limb that the game is probably quite inspired by one of the several entries from Fromsoft.
I didn’t give up on souls likes. But after Elden Ring I gave up on fromsoft. They pioneered the genre and that’s obviously to credit for games like Lies of P existing. But Lies of P, Black Wukong and even Stellar Blade (despite not being a souls like really) have something from’s souls games don’t: refinement. The jankiness and issues with gameplay precision and boss design in from’s games have gotten progressively worse over time, and I just don’t see it as ever really being fixed or improved upon. Other devs are picking up the torch and just doing it better.
Love fromsoft, but their souls games simply don’t hold the magic they used to for me. Feels like I’m just playing the same exact game but bigger in scope, and that’s not as satisfying as perhaps it once was.
@Coffeeglitch exactly, well said.
Can we please stop making all popular games open world? I've played all of Fromsoft's games and Lies of P was a genuinely refreshing take. This format is going to eat up so much unnecessary development time...
I welcome a sequel, Lies of P is one of the better Soulslikes to come out in recent years.
I just hope the devs tries as best as they can to avoid most of the open-world issues that are so common today.
