A big gaming event is just around the corner, and as usual, rumours have begun appearing from every direction. The latest scuttlebutt doing the rounds online starts with Shinobi602, a notable source currently working at Keywords Studios; apparently, Xbox will reveal the next of its first-party titles going multiplatform during Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live show.
Responding to users over on gaming forum ResetEra, Shinobi has heavily suggested we'll learn about the next Xbox game heading to PlayStation next week, during Gamescom's main showcase. One person wondered when we'd see the next round of ported games, to which he replied, "What are you doing next week?"
He followed this up with a response to a question on whether we'd see multiple Xbox games confirmed for other platforms. "[I don't know] about multiple. But a big one at least," Shinobi602 teased.
It's been speculated by many that Starfield could be the next candidate for a port to PlayStation, but Forza Horizon 5 is also in the conversation. This is because another insider, eXtas1s, responded to the rumour with a GIF reading "Feliz Cinco de Mayo," a Mexican holiday — and the open world racer is set in Mexico.
To complicate matters, Windows Central's Jez Corden has weighed in on the rumours, writing that his sources indicate Forza Horizon 5 will not be announced for PS5 next week. He can't confirm whether Xbox will announce a PS5 port at Gamescom Opening Night Live, but does note Shinobi602 is very reliable, and it's likely just "a matter of time" before he's proven right.
It's a bit of a messy rumour, but Microsoft has said more of its games are coming to other platforms. We've had several come across to PlayStation — Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves — and Gamescom seems like as good a venue as any to reveal what's coming next. We'll have to tune into Geoff's show and find out for ourselves.
