Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, in addition to its lengthy single-player offering, comes fully equipped with some backup multiplayer modes as well. In a gore-soaked new trailer, we get a look at some of the multiplayer shenanigans you can dive into when the game drops from orbit onto PS5 on 9th September.
For fireteams of up to three players, PVE Operations Mode is cooperative content for players who want to fight with their battle brothers by their side, wading through enemies and boss encounters, tasked with completing various objectives. It's gritty, third-person shooter action that should appeal to fans of Gears of War, and we can confirm it feels as good to play as it looks.
For the ultimate test, there is Versus Mode: Eternal War, which is a more traditional PVP experience based around team-based classic objectives. Here, Space Marine 2's customisation options will come into play, and if you've fallen from the God-Emperor's light, you can even opt to play as Heretic Astartes. This 4v4 mode looks like it will be quite tactical, with a vast armoury of weapons and wargear for combatants to outfit themselves with.
What do you think of this brief glimpse at Space Marine 2's multiplayer offerings? Party like it's 2011 again in the comments section below.

I'm getting it for the single player but pve does look good.
I want to hear the words "meaty single player campaign"
This game has me intrigued
Eyeing this with a mate. Rogue Trader has got me into 40k so I’m mostly looking forward to the story, but a PVE mode with the option for bots sounds great too.
@Frmknst not every one likes extraction shooters
Multiplayer is really not necessary for this, and what does the Season Pass even mean here? Is it like a battle pass for the multiplayer PvE and PvP or is it the next one or two campaign expansions for the game?
@Sacrosanctus it is! You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Ever heard of a game called Space Marine before this one? Probably not.
@Killionaire Space Marine 2 is the 1st entry in the series
@Frmknst Funny because i love death matches but find extraction modes boring and unfun.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Well good news it has a meaty SP mode and a co-op PvE mode that can be played SP with bots. Its looking all round to be a big game.
I hope they dont focus on MP too much, i buy these games for campaign.
@DennisReynolds the bots are pretty dumb it seems (judging from previews). To he point it makes the heavy class unplayable :/
Im gonna try it with randoms, as none of my friends have a ps5
I've been playing original Space Marine multiplayer on PC to get warmed up for this. I'm really looking forward to playing the sequel now.
(Yes, there are people still playing Space Marine and yes, they are all insanely good at it 😂)
I'd love to hear a single positive thing about playing it solo with AI squadmates. Until then, this is just another multiplayer attempt at being a forever game that I have zero interest in. This went from my most anticipated game of 2024 to being dropped right off my radar thanks to these previews.
@Hi569 I still don't even know if I've played an extraction shooter.
Multiple people (Skill up e.g.) that were at a preview event and played it are reporting the multiplayer (co-op) wasn’t working at all, not a good sign this close to launch.
The good news is that everything else was awesome and looking great.
@Alps_Stranger It has a big single player campaign what you all about? It has 3 modes the SP campaign, PvE Co-Op mode and PvP MP mode.
Hey, @Khayl, can the PvE modes be played as a duo, or even solo?
Thanks...
@DennisReynolds What part didn't you understand? A solo campaign designed around co-op isn't a good solo campaign. All the previews say that squadding up with friends is awesome. If they mention playing with AI squadmates at all, it's to say that it sucks.
@Alps_Stranger Yes because Gears of War and Halo's campaigns suck solo 🙄
@Sacrosanctus This is a return to a PS3 style of single-player goodness and multiplayer too baby!
@DennisReynolds Did Gears and Halo just have a bunch of previews stating as much? No? Then what are you on about? We're talking about a game that hasn't come out yet and the impressions being shared. You seem to be stuck on the marketing hype and are thinking about other games you like.
@captainsandman if you have played any of these Hunt Showdown vigor the division 1 and 2 dark zone can't think of any more on console pc has a lot of them compared to console
@Alps_Stranger I'm going by footage i've seen and postive previews you just seem to want to be negative over an issue no one has said exists because gamers sure love hating. Also you said a co-op game that can be played solo isn't good solo well i listed two games that goes against that claim.
@DennisReynolds Like I said, this was my most anticipated game. So I've read a bunch of the preview impressions. Zero people played it solo with AI squadmates who enjoyed it. All the praise is for co-op play, even in the campaign. You mentioned games that had single player campaigns that were designed as single player campaigns. I'm saying this one isn't one of those. If I'm wrong, I'll be happy and I will buy this. I'm not going to be wrong.
@Alps_Stranger SkillUp like most played the single player campaign solo because MP was broken in the preview build, all these positive previews this week have largely came from people playing it solo. In fact does the main campaign even have co-op? The PvE co-op mode obviously does but the story focused campaign seems to be SP focused on the lead of the first game.
I just booted up Space Marine 1 multiplayer on PS3 and i'm surprised there's still people playing it. I'm sucked when comes to TPS PvP lol. Not to mention my opponent & team mates at high level while i'm still lvl 3.
@Sacrosanctus Not necessary for you but the 1st game has multiplayer which people are still playing it.
@Czar_Khastik ok
@DennisReynolds campaign supports 3 player online co-op
@Jaz007 @PuppetMaster Fine, have your multiplayer, I just hope we don't get a Call of Duty campaign in length.
Edit: I've just checked and the campaign is about 12 hours long, that's...ok I guess, could be a bit longer. The thing is, because I won't subscribe to PS+ ever again, I will only get to experience 1/3 of the game, so I'm going to wait for a sale.
@Sacrosanctus I don't know what your expectation but 12 hours campaign for a linear action TPS is pretty good for me. That duration is more or less the same length when i beat Uncharted, Control, or Vanquish for the first time. Assuming you only have 1-2 hours playing time /day because of job, families, or other activities, you can beat the game in 6 days at minimum or 12 days at max.
After you done with the first playthrough, you can replay the game again with higher difficulty, searching for collectibles, or whatever trophies you want to complete in order for to get Platinum.
