Free-to-play shooter sequel Splitgate 2 has unveiled the very first look at its gameplay, which you can watch for yourself above. This follow-up to the original, which was a breakout success, is built in Unreal Engine 5 and makes some big changes, such as the main subject of the video: factions.

While the main USP of this arena shooter is its inclusion of portals — allowing you to warp around the map and catch enemies off-guard — Splitgate 2's big new idea is factions. These are essentially three character classes, each with their own specialities and equipment.

Aeros is a fast-paced faction that prioritises kills thanks to higher movement speed. The Meridian faction is essentially the healer role, hanging back to heal and revive allies as well as spotting opponents to provide more information to the team. Finally, Sabrask is the tankiest faction in Splitgate 2, able to put up defensive shields and overpower enemies with sticky grenades.

Obviously, none of this is particularly new stuff, but combined with the portals, it does look like it could be good fun. More Splitgate 2 footage will be coming very soon, as developer 1047 Games has said the game will be live streamed for the first time next week — 14th August at 12PM PT / 3PM ET.
