As we all know, YouTube dislikes are the be-all and end-all sign of something going horribly wrong. Up until now, Sony's managed to avoid dislike doom with its console reveals — but the newly announced PS5 Pro is bucking that trend. At the time of writing, the upgraded system — which is set to release in November — is already the most disliked console in PlayStation's YouTube history.
The official PS5 Pro reveal video currently sits at around 2.9 million views, with 90,000 likes and 141,000 dislikes — and the dislikes are only getting higher. Again, this is a bigger backlash than any previous PlayStation console has been subjected to.
For context, the standard PS5 announcement has a ridiculous 43 million views, but only 69,000 dislikes. Meanwhile, the PS4 Pro reveal — arguably a better point of comparison — has 1.6 million views and 5,600 dislikes.
A PS3 comparison would be interesting as well, given that the original model was also deemed to be incredibly expensive — the infamous "599 US dollars" — but that announcement doesn't exist in an official capacity on YouTube.
Now, obviously, YouTube like and dislike ratios aren't the ultimate indicator of something's worth, despite our dumb joke at the beginning of this article. But they can provide a degree of insight into certain trends — and when you start adding up all of the evidence, you certainly wouldn't be crazy for suggesting that the PS5 Pro has a huge uphill battle on its hands. Indeed, Sony's got to convince potential buyers of the system's eye-watering $700 / £700 price tag. Good luck!
