EA and BioWare have announced the talent behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard's soundtrack, and they've roped in a couple of Hollywood composers for the job.
Announced on social media, it's none other than Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe behind the OST for the upcoming RPG. The main theme is now available to stream on services like Spotify:
Zimmer is a prolific composer for movies, with notable works including Inception, Christoper Nolan's Batman trilogy, the Dune series, and countless more. Balfe has also contributed significantly to film and TV, known for Black Widow, The Wheel of Time, and The LEGO Batman Movie.
"Epic stories lend themselves to epic scores, and the narrative tapestry BioWare has woven in The Veilguard never left me wanting for inspiration, be it during the game’s moments of shining heroism or darkest emotional pitfalls," says Zimmer. "I’m proud to have shared the journey of creating the musical backdrop for the latest Dragon Age adventure with Lorne and the entire design team."
Balfe has lots of praise for The Veilguard, calling it an "unprecedented immersive experience" that he "cannot wait for people to play".

So it will slap.
“known for Black Widow, The Wheel of Time, and The LEGO Batman Movie”
Well, one out of three ain’t bad.
Oh that's fantastic - personally super excited for this game to (finally) come out. I know alot of negative nancy's will jump on the hate wagon once it comes out, but let them wallow in misery. I'll be playing this on both the xbox and playstation. Super hyped.
Actually made me wonder what their budget is if they managed to hire Hans Zimmer to compose the soundtrack. The guy is not cheap.
Hint: Whenever Hans Zimmer is announced for a project it means an intern does the music (which isn't bad) and the master himself gives his name
Technically it’ll be Lorne Balfe and a ghostwriter.
Lorne Balfe? They should've gotten Lorna Shore
Zimmer peaked long time ago. He most likely did the theme only and the rest is Balfe, or maybe one of their interns.
I've heard only good things about the game, but that state of play snippet shown looked pretty bad to me in the cutscenes. I will probably jump right in to this game on release if it gets around or over an 85
How did they manage to pay one of the goats of movie soundtracks?
@dskatter yeah, I really hated black widow 😝
@Yousef- Wheel of Time was crap, too!
Amusingly I consider the Lego Batman Movie superior to either of those!
@dskatter on an ever so slightly unrelated note, Man of Steel would’ve made more sense if you needed the third “recognizable mainstream film” mention. Sure, maybe it’s better to mention interstellar in general, but I was a huge fan of MoS’s soundtrack! Movie quality aside 😝
Sounds pretty good.
Shaping up to be a great playthrough
@dskatter The lego Batman movie is legitimately a top tier superhero movie. Banging soundtrack too!
Well, I don't really have any interest in this game, but now I'm probably gonna give the OST a listen I guess. Also, did y'all know Hans Zimmer did the Prince of Egypt soundtrack?!?! Like, how did I not know this until like a week ago?
@Yousef- Point granted!
@Yousef- The score in Interstellar is a big part of why it’s one of my all time favorite movies. Never has a score added more to a film.
@Frmknst
Was that the case for MW2?
@Athrum GOOD GOD YES!!!
@Sarcasmatwork 2001 joins the chat...
Hans Zimmer = one of his ghost writers. He does very little himself these days.
@MathiasBS Exactly. He probably played two notes on a keyboard and gave the rest to one of his underpaid interns.
This sounds super generic to me; and is another example of Zimmer rejecting interesting melodies he did years back, for bland synth-based rhythmic sounds. It also doesn't sound very Dragon Age to me; if you want your high fantasy game to have a touch of Hollywood, they'd be better off tapping Howard Shore.
@Jrs1 For sure. Good call!
I love Zimmer but "we hired Hollywood talent" as a selling point makes me even more dubious about this game...
"Having orchestral music does not necessarily mean it won't sink"
@CrashBandicoat Naturally.
Aside from the first game, I absolutely love this franchise and from what I've seen it actually looks really good. Sure, some MINOR things bug me (Like the Qunari design), but it's certaintly not enough to deter me from buying this game.
Mostly, also, because I don't give a rat's ass about reviews and people's opinions haha.
I'll probably wait with the Xbox version to go on sale - I don't want to spend that much money at once. But I 100% will buy it for PS5 day 1, no matter what.
This is such a huge W for Dragon and BioWare! Have already listened to the main theme quite a few times and enjoyed kit immensely. Fingers crossed for the whole game to be a banger as well. Going by the previews that recently came out, we're in for a great ride.
Balfe also worked in, you know, Assassin's Creed III which had an amazing soundtrack.
@Maubari
You didn't enjoy the first one? I thought I was the only one.
@Lup
Right?! I really don't understand where the praise comes from. The gameplay is garbo, the graphics are... brown, brown and more brown with the occassional green, and the party members are just meh (The dog is very cute though.. hence my name on this site haha). The story seems to be excellent, however.. but DA2 and Inquisition improved ALOT of things from the first came, despite what some people might claim otherwise
@Maubari
I 100% agree. In my case, I even found the story kinda generic. But yeah, my favorite character was the dog too, haha. I liker Leliana a bit, but I prefer her on Inquisition.
And yeah, gameplay was pretty bad even back in the day. But I forced myself to finish it to play 2 and later Inquisition and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Must have finished those two games at least 5-6 times each. Amazing games.
