SEGA’s not really being secretive about the reason behind its Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii release date change. In a video message, anchored by director Masayoshi Yokoyama, he admitted that the new 21st February launch will allow you to “play the game that comes after it with peace of mind”. That game is Monster Hunter Wilds, due out on 28th February.

While it’s bold to assume fans will be able to beat a Yakuza title in a week, we suppose this spin-off story will be shorter than a mainline entry, as was the case with Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Still, it seems like there will be an (infinite) wealth of things to do, including customising your pirate ship and engaging in naval combat.

To be fair, Yokoyama also notes development is progressing more smoothly than expected, so that’s another good reason to bring the release date forward. He says the developer wants to get the game into the hands of fans as soon as possible.

Remember, February will also plot the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so it’s shaping up to be a huge month for new PS5 games. How will you be managing your time? Share your schedule in the comments section below.
