Someone at Sony must have a real soft spot for the PS2 horror classic Siren (or Forbidden Siren in Europe) as the title has been subject to a real labour of love as it drops on PS Plus Premium today. As well as being the very first example of Sony going back to a game it already emulated once before (in the criticised PS2 to PS4 program), it's also given the Trophy list an overhaul with a list almost double that of the PS4 port.
The first PS4 version of the game had a Trophy list comprising just 12 trinkets, and it didn't even bother with a Platinum. Some of the requirements were as simple as playing a Time Attack mode and unlocking the stage selection screen.
Fast forward eight years and Siren has now been given the Trophy list it deserves — Platinum included! Detailed in full on Exophase, you'll be rewarded across 23 Trophies for completing all objectives across specific days, discovering items, and getting a high score in the Brain Cell Revival minigame.
On top of the new Trophy list, you'll also have access to the features the PS5, PS4 emulation system brings to these classics: gameplay rewind, save states, control customisation, and more. This is probably the best-ever version of Siren; it's good to see Sony paying proper respect to some of the memorable titles that make up its big back catalogue.
Will you be playing Siren on PS5, PS4? Let us know in the comments below.

It’s a really great game, too! I hope more of the ill-fated PS2 on PS4 titles get updated.
Would be awesome if they upgraded all the original PS2 games to the new emulator.
@DennisReynolds Can't see that happening just wish they would port games like the Godfather,Scarface etc but because of license issues keep dreaming.
Any knowledge on if we have access to it if we already own the original emulated version? I don’t have premium but I did buy this game before
It'd be cool if I could buy the emulator ($24.99, who says no? I'll pay for the work they put in to develop it), put my discs in the PS5 and play them - granted, with many features absent, but still playable. Come on Sony, you could have the best BC in the console space right here.
@Wizpig17 some ps1 games are free if you bought them on ps3, but this depends on licensing. It’s hard to say in this case since this is the first instance of a “replacement” for the old emulator but being first party there seems a reasonable chance
@IntrepidWombat Aside from the obvious ability to control what games they resell and them making money, there is a potential issue with compatability.
By controlling releases they can make sure they are emulated properly and that they won’t get customers constantly complaining about games they haven’t tested not working. I don’t think selling them emulator would help.
I think the combination of selling specific titles and compatability are equal reasons they won’t do it. Just like they didn’t on ps4 or ps3.
@Wizpig17 Yes we have !
As I said on the other article according to the PS Store this version has the original Japanese voice over THANK GOD!!!. SIREN was always extra weird because of the way they made the game the characters had quite realistic faces for the console gen at the time so you had these somewhat realistic looking Japanese people in the game all with thick Bri'ish accents and it was just SOOOOOOOOOOO jarring 😅 (I guess it wouldn't be as bad now since one of my favourite members of my favourite J-pop group is English)
I'll put this on my wishlist. I played it back in PS2 days but i never get the chance to finish it because i got distracted with other games.
Imho it's one of the best survival horror games because the atmosphere is so fkin creepy and also great story.
Added to the fact the enemies, called Shibito, can't be killed too. Every encounter with these bad mf's are pretty intense even if your character have weapons. The only thing you can do is either distract them, knocked them out, or hide.
Unfortunately the game has flaws like clunky control and pretty challenging gameplay that required some trial and error. So, the western reviewers slammed down this game pretty hard with low-mid scores.
Anyway. Sony made this creepy live action commercial for Siren.

@Keyblade-Dan guess you won't see those realistic faces now that you're focusing on the subtitles
Surely the more authentic option however and I'll be able to understand the occasional sentence with my rusty Japanese.
@get2sammyb I played the PS3 remake back in the day and enjoyed it, any value in experiencing this version over that one?
@Wizpig17
I just added to library, can confirm, it's free. Sadly no buy option for Dino Crisis.
This sounds fantastic I will be partaking in this. Silent Hill 2 has got me pining for survival horror once again. Playing it right now, it’s so good
@ThorsHammer Blood Curse is basically this one, restructured, with added bits (all those TV/episodic bits and extra characters). So the original is worth a go as it's a slightly different setup - and much more "Japanese" - but don't expect level design etc. to be entirely fresh 👍
@Mikey856 Same here! It's perfect timing as Siren's gonna get a lot of new fans because of the Silent Hill 2 remake 😁
Ape Escape 2 will be rescued soon.
@Prime_Objective let’s go, thank you!
@Scarface82G1 I didn't know you liked Scarface.
Glad to see this, but man I'm disappointed Dino Crisis doesn't have trophies.
@IntrepidWombat
Never gonna happen. That'd be something positive for physical copies.
They want you to have a mentality where physical copies aren't even an option anymore. To brainwash you for their digital only future where they have all the power 😈
@McTwist Yeeeah, I know. It's a pipe dream. That's why I have my PC...
Release it on LRG and I'll bite.
Never played Siren, definitely intrigued.
Edit: Holy sh*t this was written and directed by Keiichiro Toyama—how have I not played this?! 😫
Meanwhile Dino Crisis has no trophies and is locked behind the PS+ paywall. They're not honoring PS3 purchases on this one... looks like emulation with retro achievements is the way to go now!
The emulation is indeed better so far but why the f***k is it 26.83 GB?!? We’re talking about a PS2 game that fit on a DVD. So the game itself was less than 8.5 GB. Does that mean the emulation wrapper is almost 20 GB?
Wouldn't it be in Sony's best interest to offer this service of making trophy lists for these games to Capcom, Namco and others? Even for free?
The result being they get more games on their service and the sales of the games on the store would be higher which they get a cut from as well.
So again, a good game is locked behind a subscription paywall. Fantastic…..
