Still riding high from the positive reception to its recent Silent Hill 2 remake, developer Bloober Team is shifting its focus to the future. Unsurprisingly, Cronos: The New Dawn is a survival horror title, pulling from genre greats like Dead Space and Alan Wake, expected to launch on PS5 sometime in 2025.
Unveiled just last month, Cronos' game director Wojciech Piejk spoke to MP1st about the game, confirming it will "lean" towards Resident Evil and Dead Space in design. Specifically, Piejk highlighted Dead Space's limb-cutting and Alan Wake's flashlight-based combat as inspirations, teasing a unique battle mechanic in this vein to further "spice" things up but kept quiet on the specifics. Piejk said the game would also have a strong emphasis on story and atmospheric exploration, which are necessary parts of any good survival horror experience.

I think blooper have made great strides as a developer loved the Medium and Silent hill 2 was a very good remake.
i think they are now hitting there stride and I will play Cronos new dawn as so far looks right up my street
and lets be honest most games now days are re-using ideas and mechanics of games past
Really looking forward to seeing what Bloober has cooked up with this game.
I don’t care if they copied some mechanic from others great game. As long it’s fun and scary. Not gonna lie, after playing SH2 remake,i have faith for this cronos game and bloobers team. It’s look great so far. Can’t wait to see more of gameplay
Yes, yes, I could order a nice dish of hot&spicy monster limbs, dipped in a mix of gut juices and splattered brains, no problem.
Dead Space and Alan Wake? You are speaking my language Bloober Team.
@breakneck Just about every game ever made (especially AA and AAA) borrows ideas from games that came before it. The only difference with Bloober is they are being honest about it.
@breakneck Bit of an unfair assessment there, they talk about taking inspiration, as everyone creative does, and they're suddenly lacking imagination? I would say taking shots at bloober at the top of the comments is the only thing lacking imagination here. Will wait and see what the game is all about before judging.
@themightyant So true, would be quite a challenge to name me a bunch great games of this and previous generations that didn't borrow or was heavily influenced by another. You can't get away from it, and not just with games.
They always had a penchant for atmosphere and artistry, but lacked actual game mechanics in pretty much everything up until SH2 (haven’t played the medium so can’t speak to that) pretty excited for what they are cooking up and looking forward to hearing more
I am going to remain skeptical, but I do have some hope after the SH2 Remake because honestly that was on of the best games I played this year. Hopefully they learned a lot in that process. My hope is the bloober become the new Konami or Capcom with horror and we have another studio to get excited about.
Can't wait to see some gameplay from this. Probably my most anticipated game for next year.
@PegasusActual93 There's the fantastic nemesis system, that WB are belligerently holding onto the patent for, and so has only been used in the Shadow of War/ Mordor games up to now... and what about in MGS 4, there was Snake's ptsd/ stress bar, that you could fill up again by smoking cigarettes. Don't think we'll be seeing that one return anywhere 😅😉
@themightyant Borrowing stuff is not a big issue as long as it's not a blatant copy. Also nice if a game has its own identity and it's not just a mix of copied games with AI like copying.
“Dead Space's limb-cutting” Great, I guess we won’t see it released in Japan then…
Hope this is good, but its unfair to assume that because SH2 was good, this will be good.
Their last original IP, the Medium, is absolute garbage. The only thing you can use SH2 to compare is whether they've improved their graphics engine.
This looks good. One to look out for.
Bloober and the studio behind lies of p are both working on sci fi horror... oooh I will be dining well. Love it.
