There’s been very little coverage of how the PS5 Pro is improving PSVR2, but we’ll have a lot more for you on that front in the coming days. In the meantime, we thought we’d share with you how a couple of major titles are leveraging Sony’s new hardware to improve their games.
First, it’s worth noting the platform holder’s proprietary AI-based upscaler PSSR is not available for PSVR2 just yet, so many of the improvements you see will be focused on the system’s improved GPU instead.
Still, this makes for a profound boost to the image quality in No Man’s Sky.
In the game’s new update – available today – the release’s Dynamic Resolution Scaling range has been bumped from 1458p to 2160p, with foveated rendering increasing the “effective resolution by 300%”, according to UploadVR. In other words, the game looks sharper than ever on Sony’s headset with PS5 Pro.
The same is also true of the photorealistic Kayak VR: Mirage. Effectively, the aptly named Better Than Life has reduced the range of the game’s dynamic scaling, and increased all of the graphical effects. In addition, it’s using 8K textures as opposed to the 4K textures in the base game.
So we’re seeing some remarkable improvements from PSVR2 on PS5 Pro, then. Those of you who own the headset will know how important resolution can be in virtual reality, as a clearer image leads to a more realistic and immersive experience. We’ll have more in the coming days.

I'm tempted to get it,but I don't know if my setup will benefit from it. I have a 50 inch 4k qled tv without VRR and no HDMI 2.1.
oooohh, I need to hear how gt7 looks. Anyone know if it looks better? I know its unpatched at the moment but if the flat mode has some bumps I hope the VR mode does as well.
No Man's Sky is one of the games I'm downloading overnight tonight.
Looking forward to getting to see how good it looks over the weekend.
Anyone seen if RE4 and Village have had a VR bump yet?
I'll wait to hear more details before I decide if it's enough to justify the extra cost of purchasing a PS5 Pro
Does it change the lenses of the psvr2 ?
@Yozora146_ with ray tracing its very shiny, i think i prefer the smoothness of performance. I need to take another look at if the resolution looks better tomorrow
@Medic_alert They've both had Pro updates but I haven't seen details of what's included.
@Yozora146_ Same here! I'm going to get a Pro anyway, but I NEED a patch for GT7 PSVR2... as it is it's not bad by any means, but as you know there many things that can be improved: resolution, LOD, native framerate...
It's really bad how PSVR2 ownwers are being left in the dark regarding announcements about Pro support... I was hoping Polyphony to be one of the first to knockit out of the park with Pro+VR but hasn't happended...
Wow! I guess it's no wonder people have taken to calling the base PS5 the "PS5 Amateur!"
Looking forward to trying some of my VR games on mine tomorrow but I haven't even had time to play a pancake game yet as I just got home from work.
For Kayak VR I'd much rather have had solid native 120fps as think the game looks good enough already.
I consider myself a seasoned VR user (PC,Q3 & PSVR1/2) but this is the only game on PSVR2 that gives can give me motion sickness.
I'm fine with the other Whitewater VR Kayak game on PC so not the type of game.
@jdv95 You will see some benefits in terms of increased fidelity and games playing more smoothly at or nearer 60. How important that is to you is subjective. Pro is only an incremental upgrade anyway, but on your tv the advantages will be less. I'd say is far from an essential upgrade in your position.
To make the most of a PS5 Pro you really need a bigger TV (where the fidelity changes will be more obvious) and for games that don't hit a stable 60fps (Elden Ring, Dragon's Dogma 2 etc.) VRR will help as they are more likely to be in the VRR window (48-60fps).
I can't advise you what to do, as value is subjective, and dependant on our financial situation. So i'd perhaps ask this instead. Are you happy with your PS5? If so you don't need a Pro. Just my 2 cents, but hope it helps.
@Gooseman42 Same here. PSVR2 is my first headset, but I got it at launch. I've been building rather strong VR legs, but Kayak is a little much for me to handle. Truth be told though, I've yet to manage smooth turning in any game. Whenever I enable it, I immediately feel I'm cross-eyed.
