Wolfenstein developer Machine Games has revealed that the upcoming, once Xbox-exclusive Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be the studio's biggest project by quite a margin. With almost four hours of cinematic cutscenes alone, that's like two Indiana Jones films on top of a very generous shooter. It's reputedly longer than Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, which clocks in somewhere between 11 and 17 hours, depending on the level of completion.
The news comes to us via an interview with MinnMax and Indie creative director Axel Torvenius (thanks, GamesRadar+). In the fast-moving interview, Torvenius didn't reveal an exact hour count for the Great Circle but did stress that: "By far, this is the biggest and longest game that Machine Games have ever done."
Are you looking forward to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, expected on PS5 in Q1/Q2 of 2025, out 9th December on Xbox and PC? Crack that bullwhip in the comments section below.

Would really like to play this but....in a third person perspective.
this is not an uncharted game this is very much like the chronicles of Riddick games like escape from butcher bay
4 hours of cutscenes is hardly a selling point for a video game to be honest.
They gave it to an FPS studio and expected something good? Talk about ruining the franchise. They had several series to use as a blueprint including an Xbox game and they still did it in first person. They clearly have no clue how to make anything else. But all the fanboys will defend this non cinematic game.
I always hate when they advertise size as a selling point. Big doesn't always mean good. If they don't know what to do with it, the girth of a package will get you nowhere.
This remains a highly anticipated game. But I can't imagine it having the legs to entertain for more than 12 hours.
@Lavishturtle I don't really know what everyone's problem with it being first person is. Just because Uncharted is Indiana Jones, that doesn't mean Indiana Jones has to be Uncharted. "Ruining the franchise" and "non-cinematic" seem both unjustified and overblown statements to make.
The most appropriate perspective depends most on the gameplay they've developed. Given that they are an FPS studio, I'm sure it feels like a proper FPS game. I didn't hear people complaining about RoboCop being first person. So why should this be any different?
@Lavishturtle Careful i got skinned alive for saying this the other day on here. Agreed though the only reason this is 1st person is because the Devs can't make anything else.
So many people complaining before the game even launches… what else is new? It they had decided to go with a TPP I’m sure those same guys would be like: oh, another Uncharted/Tomb Raider clone. You can’t win. I’m a huge Indy fan so I will play it at launch on xCloud, but I’m not sure I will finish Stalker 2 in time.
I have enjoyed most of their Wolfenstein games. So I have a little faith in them. Not really a fan of the 4 hours of cutscenes, I don't enjoy Kojima games because of this(they are normally 20 hours of cutscenes though.)
Personally (don't hate dislike me for this) - I get very nervous when I hear "it's their biggest project YET!"... not because I think it will be crap, but I wonder who is asking for a longer Indiana Jones? I think this sort of game is best done short-sharp-and-shiny.... preferably 12-15 hours (IMHO)... so hopefully it's not just bloated with content.
Edit - and does anyone else hate it when a game goes into an unexpected cut-scene that just goes on and on... and there's no way to pause/save/restore to a point before the cutscene?
I hope it is big in replayability and good content not collectibles and fluff. I like Machine Games and first person is an interesting choice while avoiding the inevitable comparison tps would've brought towards the fantastic Uncharted games and highly acclaimed Tomb Raider games.
The issue is I feel First person games are usually better with shorter lengths for example Doom 2016 and Eternal were too long where repetition did set in for me. Also I'm a little worried that everything I've seen has been quite brown/sandy. Hope for some globetrotting scenery changes.
@RoomWithaMoose commented - then saw your comment... totally agree. The times have changed - we're mostly time-poor (or at least time-poor as well as being bank-account-poor). Let's aim for smaller more focused games.
@Elitepatriot and the prize for risk-taking goes to you... but seriously, I totally agree. I'm sure that you'll get a lot of hate for that comment however.
To show solidarity - IMO Kojima's a hack film-maker who could make really good games... unfortunately, he puts too much stock in his film-making (and not enough time into hiring a good editor). There really needs to be less focus on overly ambitious cut-scenes... especially where you can't save before and/or during!
The question is are those 4 hours of cutscenes really good?
I don't mind long cutscenes like in MGS, Xenosaga, KH, Death Stranding, or Yakuza as long as they has cool actions and nice lore / exposition.
Imagine making a tomb raider-esque Indy game but in 1st person. What a disaster.
I would love a first person Indi game focused on platforming, exploration and puzzles. Sadly all the previews showed that it focuses on stealth and human enemies. Oh well, I hope that people will get some enjoyment out of it.
This game is such a dark horse to me, I have no idea what to expect even though I've seen most the promotional material they've released. There's a part of me that feels the first person view is a mistake, but there's nothing I'd love more then to be proven wrong and that they'll suprise us all with a banger game. 🤞
And yeah, I'm very much on team "longer doesn't = better". Quality & depth trumps long & stretched imo. (I could've worded that a bit more fairly, but I'm biased asf. 😁)
For anyone worrying about first person platforming - Mirror's Edge was pretty awesome.
Super super excited for this. Looks to be its own thing which is a great sign. But the PS stans will hate on it regardless. If it was just Uncharted then it would be a clone, but now it’s a bad thing that it’s first person, despite MachineGames proving they can do FPS games really well. I’ve played the Emperor’s Tomb and the Staff of Kings, them copying existing tropey gameplay and sticking Indy in them doesn’t end well.
When I heard/saw that the game was more of an stealth game I instantly lost any appeal to purchase it. Before I said there is something off about this game and now I think this because it was orignally meant to be a VR game.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Thanks. Many games could use less theatrics and more budget pushed to gameplay. I think games would be more entertaining for it as well.
To me, "by far their biggest game" means don't buy it at the start, wait until all the colossal bug fixes have been distributed.
Be interested to see how it turns out though. In the meantime, I have a hankering to play Lego Indiana Jones on the Vita/PSP.
There might have been a time when I questioned this being a first person game, but I remember when Riddick was announced and I wondered why they’d ruin it by making it first person. I couldn’t have been more wrong, Riddick was one of my favorite games that generation and this gives me similar vibes so I’m all for it.
As far as the four hours of cutscenes go, yes that’s a lot, but I rarely see people complain when Kojima released a game and you don’t get to control the character for the first four hours because it’s all one massive cutscene. I’m aware I’m being hyperbolic here, but I’ll never understand why he gets a pass and everyone else gets hate for it. Play the game and judge it or just accept it’s not your cup of tea and move on, but let’s not pretend it’s the worst game ever made before its even been released.
I don't understand people's holdup about the 1st person perspective. Platforming has been done well in 1st person plenty of times. Mirrors Edge, Titanfall, Far Cry, Doom just to name a few all have at least some platforming involved and have all done it very well. Plus Machine Games is already used to that perspective having worked on Wolfenstein previously so I'm legitimately confused why it's such a sticking point for some people.
I think the game looks fantastic so far and I loved the Wolfenstein games so I have faith in Machine Games. Looking forward to it.
To bad! I was really looking forward to playing this game. But first person, no thank you. Why can’t they give people the choice between first and third person? There are plenty of games out there who do.
Who knew being a first person fan was such a sin these days. Third person games also have a place in gaming, but we should just let the devs cook what they're cooking rather than saying 'oh its a dead game, devs don't know what they're doing' - grow up, get educated and make your own freekin game then if it bugs you so much
I dunno, if I wanted several films worth of Indy footage, I'd go watch several Indy films.
I'm playing video_games_for a few reasons. Sitting back to passively observe isn't one of them. You'd think these game companies would understand the appeal of the game part of the equation, but here we are.
I hope it's at least 30 hours, too many games this and last gen only last 15-20 hours
@Danloki it can't be any worse than the last couple of films 😅
I have no problem with it being first or third person as long as it's good , whats the problem with cutscenes , its got a story so how else are they going to tell it ? Surely a person's attention span isn't that poor that they can't wait a couple of minutes.
@Danloki agreed , troy Baker seems to do a good impersonation, i wonder if they approached Harrison ford, would love to know his response if they did 😂😂
@Lavishturtle Are you being serious??? Of course they're doing a first person game. They were chosen to make a first person game.
How many third person, narrative driven, action games from Naughty Dog/Insomniac/Guerrilla do you want???
Machine Games does something different to another Uncharted and people lose their *****.
The same people who ask for different games. ***** off and grow up.
"First person games suck"
...
Half-Life, Fallout, Skyrim, KCD, Cyberpunk 2077 et al 🙄
If it has a better story then the last two movies it will be a win. If the gameplay is good then the camera point of view won't matter.
@DennisReynolds Hideo Kojima enters the chat
The last thing I would want to see. 4 hour cut scenes of an Indiana Jones game that doesn't resemble Harrison Ford.
Reminds me of Chronicles of Riddick, which was a fps and it worked really well.
Potentially a better movie than Dial of Destiny!
Removed - trolling/baiting
I can't wait to see how they adapted this for the "Modern Audience."
@Lavishturtle .....the games not even out yet !!??
How on earth can you call it crap, you have no idea. Just because it's 1st person doesn't make it a bad game. So are the Uncharted or Tomb Raider crap because they're only in 3rd person? Jeez man, play the game then you can have a relevant opinion
1st person games give me motion sickness unless they run really really smoothly (ie 60fps) with low or well done motion blur. I'm looking forward to Avowed, you can choose either view which is great
Ps5 pro best place to play on console at least
@Smooshy @Korgon Probably because this is a PlayStation fan site and Sony makes mostly third-person cinematic games - which is what Sony fans crave.
I, for one, can't wait to play this!
I never played the Riddick games, but I see this more akin to a stealthy Metroid Prime (which also combines first-person and third-person).
@KayUK This game is using the latest IdTech iteration and targets 60fps on consoles. Seeing as how DOOM Eternal was 60fps without issue, I think it's safe to say this will be solid.
Im not for or against first person, as long as the game works for what it is. Like some said, would be nice if you could change it but maybe there is a reason. I would caution praising it because they make wolfenstein which were great games. However wolfenstein no matter what is a shooter. This game is not from what ive heard. Its supposed to be a stealth adventure game where you can shoot some but i wouldnt expect you to just shoot your way out of problems. Stealth is great but it can be hard to pull off, too much stealth and the adventuring dries up. I dont mind the cutscenes, used to it with sony. Far as length. I think about 20 hours would be fine if thats the standard for reviewers. That means ill prob get more cause i always go over the hours reviewers say. Best thing for me is i only own a ps5, so ill probably get the more done version right away plus ill have plenty of information to base off whether i should get it or not.
@KayUK Same here motion sickness is a bummer for me with all first person games.
@JustCameHereToSay yeah, there's nothing wrong with being put off by it, that's where the choice to buy it and play it or not comes in, but it's when people act like it will be definitively s*** because of this one aspect and that the dev is wrong and shouldn't have even bothered making the game that it gets a little bit silly.
I suppose it is just people thinking the world should cater to them alone and if it doesn't it is inherently wrong. God complexes and the like. Which is totally different from the totally acceptable standpoint of someone not liking (or thinking they won't like) a thing for some personal reason.
Basically every game that ever releases now is under intense scrutiny from people that aren't even going to try and see if they even like the thing because they have already decided that it is the devil incarnate. It's no longer about personal tastes for these people, it is just to have something new to moan at.
But it's easy enough to seperate those with an honest opinion or resevation about a thing and those who just want to throw their toys out of the pram because their nappy is full 😅
The game might be good, it might be s***, but it won't be objectively and fundamentally good or s*** because of the camera perspective alone
It'll be better than the last movie at least
I'm not convinced by this game, somethings look great overs look janky. I wait for reviews.
