Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the next title from MachineGames, and rather than blasting Nazis away with OTT weaponry in Wolfenstein, you'll be beating them up with shovels and rolling pins. Launching on PS5 next Spring after a brief period of Xbox exclusivity, publisher Bethesda has just put out a new gameplay overview video, providing our best look yet at the action adventure.
Clocking in at just under 15 minutes, the video goes over exploration, puzzles, stealth, combat, and other details. It seems the focus will be on Indy's excursions into dangerous locations in search of clues and artefacts; much of the trailer is about exploring environments and piecing together puzzles.
It also explains how you'll use some of his equipment, like his journal, which will gradually fill with useful information as you progress, and his camera, which can be used to gain more details and even hints on puzzles if you want them.
Indy's whip will be put to use in traversal, allowing you to swing across chasms. Of course, it'll also be handy in combat and stealth — you can use it to break objects and cause a distraction, or you can whip guns from enemy hands, trip them over, and more. Beyond that, you'll improvise various melee weapons, brawl with your fists, and use a trusty revolver — though guns are intended as a last resort.
Overall the game appears to be pretty authentic to what fans expect of Indiana Jones. Whether it all comes together for a cohesive experience remains to be seen, but the gameplay on show here is quite promising.
