Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the next title from MachineGames, and rather than blasting Nazis away with OTT weaponry in Wolfenstein, you'll be beating them up with shovels and rolling pins. Launching on PS5 next Spring after a brief period of Xbox exclusivity, publisher Bethesda has just put out a new gameplay overview video, providing our best look yet at the action adventure.
Clocking in at just under 15 minutes, the video goes over exploration, puzzles, stealth, combat, and other details. It seems the focus will be on Indy's excursions into dangerous locations in search of clues and artefacts; much of the trailer is about exploring environments and piecing together puzzles.

It also explains how you'll use some of his equipment, like his journal, which will gradually fill with useful information as you progress, and his camera, which can be used to gain more details and even hints on puzzles if you want them.
Indy's whip will be put to use in traversal, allowing you to swing across chasms. Of course, it'll also be handy in combat and stealth — you can use it to break objects and cause a distraction, or you can whip guns from enemy hands, trip them over, and more. Beyond that, you'll improvise various melee weapons, brawl with your fists, and use a trusty revolver — though guns are intended as a last resort.
Overall the game appears to be pretty authentic to what fans expect of Indiana Jones. Whether it all comes together for a cohesive experience remains to be seen, but the gameplay on show here is quite promising.

Cautiously optimistic for this one. Just seems like third person would have suited it better, but I am open to being proven wrong.
Nice that the PS crowd will get to play this too. I’ll be playing it on xCloud at launch. Hope I’ll manage to finish Stalker 2 before Indy comes out.
I have been skeptical of this project even as a lifelong Indiana Jones fan. But, I must admit I'm more sold on the game after this preview.
Something about this game seems off, just don't know what it is.....
my wish for another indiana jones game was made on a monkeys paw it seems

Looks good to me. I'll pick this one up for sure.
@DennisReynolds No offense but what are you talking about? Why does this have to be a third person game?
Simple for me.
See how it reviews, if top end ish.
Wait for updates and PS5 Pro enhanced
Then purchase in Spring.
If not end ish review, don’t buy.
Also think Stalker 2 only has a 3 month Xbox exclusivity.
@DennisReynolds What a ridiculous comment.
@DennisReynolds this is a stupid and disingenuous thought. The devs specialize in first person games. This would be the equivalent of saying all of Sony’s main teams are bad cause they aren’t talented enough to make first person games.
I'm so glad Machine Games went with first person for this. A third person perspective would have just made it seem like an Uncharted/Tomb Raider rip off (even though the Indy films directly inspired those games).
@DennisReynolds you do realise this isn’t uncharted or tomb raider, right? The devs have clearly explained the design choice behind the first person - they want you to be able to see the world through the eyes of the character when exploring, finding artifacts, taking pictures etc. Outside of a few different moments the game mechanics have all been designed for first person and the studio have a strong history of first person design.
How long have you worked at machine games for you to be able to say the game is supposed to be third person? If you want that type of game there’s 3 of the tomb raider reboots and 4 uncharted’s. I’m glad they’ve gone in a different direction, if it was third person no doubt people like yourself would complain that it was an uncharted rip off.
This would have looked so much better in 3rd person, but ill still be picking this up on PS5.
The news that this was being launched on PlayStation was the final nail in the coffin for my Xbox Series X.
I'm all in on PlayStation now, Xbox is clearly going to become a publisher and little else.
I'm done.
This looks like it was a VR game that's been repurposed to work as a flat screen game. The camera movement and stretchy arms just look too odd for a game that was supposedly never intended for VR.
What nobody mentioned this game on the PS 5 Pro you guys are slipping!
This game looks like it should've come out 10 years ago
Only a couple of months and we should be getting an article about how it runs better on the Pro. To save you the trouble; it will run better on the Pro. There! Now we can move on...
It looks like fun but the chatter in the video is hilarious with inventive combat and advanced stealth mechanics by hiding the body. Still looks like fun ill probably pick it up and it makes me want to play another Uncharted with or without Nathan Drake.
No it doesn't, when the actual model doesn't look like Harrison Ford.
No waiting! Game Pass for me.

@Torque I feel like it’s a pretty good likeness. I actually think the voice acting is pretty spot on too.
No waiting, I pre-ordered on XBox and will start in December.
@IamJT Unfortunately the likeness looks too much like Todd Howard, imo. Voice only thing going for it.
@DennisReynolds....crazy comment. How on earth do you know how talented the devs are ?? ...maybe they need you there to show them how it's done
Game looks like it will be a lot of fun.
I think the comments suggest some fanboyism either on purpose or subconsciously. I fully expect that when it releases on PS5, running better on the Pro, it will be all about that and how it’s a good game.
@DennisReynolds by that logic naughty dog and Santa Monica are worthless horrible devs cause they can’t make 1st person games.
@DennisReynolds no, machine games and Bethesda pitched the idea for a first person Indiana jones action adventure game to Disney (owners of the IP) and it was green lit. At no point in time was this game ever going to be a third person game.
If you want to secure funding and a studio of devs you’re welcome to go pitch your idea for an Indiana Jones reskin of uncharted to Disney and see how far you get.
@Fishmasterflex96 Have they been giving the job to make a game best suited to 1st person? They only really make God of War and GoW would make zero sense as a 1st person game.
@KingPev Giving the last game they made was life service trash and the game prior to that was a very underwhelming sequel i don't have much hope for them.
@Neither_scene Yeah so the Dev known for FPS games pitched a "FPS" Indy game because they clearly can't make a 3rd person Indy game thanks for confirming my point.

this isnt a shooter, its not a reskinned tomb raider or uncharted if youve ever played Chronicles of Riddick escape from butcher bay thats more of what this going to be.
@trev666 which makes a lot of sense since a lot of those devs are making the great circle now lol
@Fishmasterflex96 yeah i liked the riddick games they made but anyone expecting all guns blazing 1st person shooter thats not what they are making here
@DennisReynolds Dude, you need to get a grip here. We all get it. You have no interest in the game. But don't sit there and say it is not 3rd person because the developers can't make it 3rd person. It was pitched as a 1st person game. End of story. If Bethesda wanted it third person, they would have used one of their other studios to make it. Why are you on a "crusade" to show and garner hate for this game? I'll bet it has something to do with MS owning Bethesda.
@DennisReynolds Do you seriously think they couldn’t make it a third-person game? There are parts where you see the character in third-person, and it’s animated really well, so they definitely could have done it; they just went with FPS. What you’re saying is nonsense... Though honestly, I agree it would be better in third-person, but it is what it is.
I have my GamePass ready!
@DennisReynolds I really don’t understand what you’re upset about. This isn’t a third person game and it was never going to be. No one else is making a third person Indiana game as far as I’m aware, there’s no funding for one and nobody is interested is making one. It’s time to move on buddy. Go play uncharted again.
Too many folks biting a teenage troll comment. Let's keep the focus on our collective excitement! I'm hoping the soundtrack will sound like John Williams composed it himself and I'm also hopeful that the transition between countries will include that classic map and plane trail just like the films.

I'm really looking forward to playing this on PS5. I hope the story is a decent length.
@Fiendish-Beaver Your just mad the PS5 Pro is more powerful then a Xbox Series X.
I'm not mad at all, @XenonKnight, but neither am I going to play games that I have already played just because the floor is slightly shinier! I'm happy with my PS5, and I'm content to wait for the PS6. To me, disposing of my perfectly fine PS5, and then shelling out more than £800 for a console that does everything just a little bit better is not worth the money. It's absolutely fine if people want that, but I'm good where I am, and can wait for the PS6 to arrive in about 3 or 4 years time...
The opening minute of actual gameplay looks jank af.
Not impressed so far. The graphics are decent but the gameplay looks a bit dull.
Yep this looks real good
@XenonKnight I never realized Sony is the new Apple.
First person means not interested. Wrong studio was assigned to the game.
@__jamiie so now Gamepass filler games are good? I can’t keep up with the flip flopping on this site. Speaking of Gamepass filler it’s the number 1 played and sold game on all devices. But i’ll wait for the next trend on here saying something is bad.
@Fiendish-Beaver how are people still whining about the Pro. Please just stop going on about the price. Stop reducing the improvement to unfounded 'little bit better'. I have one and it's not merely a little bit better. You don't have one so just move on already.
And this game like any based off a visual medium would be better as third person. It's weird shifting to first person when you're using to seeing the character from the other perspective.
I'm really glad as a PS5 owner I won't miss out on this. If it's good I'm happy to wait
Watched the Bethesda gameplay vid and you can tell the biggest question the developers had was “how do we make this different to Tomb Raider and Uncharted”. I loved the Dishonored games, with its third person style but watching the footage of this one, the flips between first and third person kind of takes you out of the action. Some of the graphics are really good. I’ll see what the reviews are like.
I’m really looking forward to this. Game Pass PC and then maybe buy on PS5.
I hope it’s good. It looks good. I think it will be!
As always I still think the choice to go 1st person is terrible and ruins what the game could have been. The opening of the deepdive where the room is filling with sand just doesn't work for me in 1st person. it looks like the room is filling up and you jump float to the top and escape. Also having the game go from 1st person to 3rd person anytime something happens really highlights how the whole game should have just been in 3rd person.
Had they gone for VR then I think the game would work really well as it stands, but currently it just looks odd.
@HonestHick It's amazing the huge u-turns some people are able to make! 🤣
May be worth waiting for, but I'm not a patient man.
Gonna give it a go on PC at launch, since it's also on game pass.
Hope it measures up to the hype all throughout the adventure, and doesn't end up being boring after a dozen hours like Bethesda's Starfield...
I’m surprised it’s 1st person too. Not saying it should be; just the nature of the beast still there’s something special about Indy the game it will almost redefine cinematics. Even your grandad will want to play it 👊
@Oram77 I think it's the first-person camera perspective. It's totally unnatural for this kind of game.
Skeptical of this game given how beloved IPs have been treated as of late, hope this turns out well but not counting on it.
Xbox user here and defo day 1 GP for me. Also pleased that the PS crowd get to play too . Games for all yay.
