Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it currently has "no plans" for a PS5 Pro-specific update. Many fans of the open world RPG have questioned the possibility, but the studio has only just made its stance clear via a reply on X.
For what it's worth, we actually got in touch with the company's PR team months ago, asking whether PS5 Pro support for Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3 was being considered. At the time, a representative told us that the team simply had "no announcements on the topic" — and so we've been waiting on some kind of clarification.
Obviously, CD Projekt Red is incredibly busy right now. It's got teams working on both the next Witcher title and Cyberpunk 2077's sequel; you can't exactly blame the developer for passing up on the process of building, testing, releasing, and potentially supporting an update for a very specific console refresh.
Still, it is a shame. While Cyberpunk 2077 runs really well and looks fantastic on PS5 these days, a Pro patch could have merged the game's fidelity and performance modes — or perhaps it could have implemented some ray tracing tech.
We suppose there's an outside chance that CDPR will put something together in the future — developers will never say never. But as of right now, we'd advise against getting your hopes up.
By the way, we've played 2077 on PS5 Pro and it does benefit from the hardware's additional heft, holding a steadier frame rate in busy parts of the map.

That disappointing, oh well let's just play the millions of other games available 😁
Feels like this game could've actually significantly benefited from a Pro patch. Oh well, as said "[it] runs really well and looks fantastic on PS5 these days."
Kinda like 90% of the games with a Pro patch... Uh, I mean — BLAST PROCESSING, BROOOO!!!
They r now neck deep into NXT Witcher that's why....and same as RDR2 not getting 60fps mode coz R* busy in Gta5 online and NXT gta
Strange decision. However, I haven't enjoyed this game in the four attempts I've made at playing it (PC and PS5), and I've not really been able to put my finger on why.
I would have been much happier with a Witcher 3 patch 😁
Remember when Sony took Cyberpunk off of the PS Store and gave refunds to everyone?
Yeah, CDPR haven't forgotten. Why would they bother support Sonys mid-gen refresh for free, when they could opt not to and leave Sony hanging?
Sucks for gamers though.
Honestly - its not a game I would replay, so im not that bothered.
However, this is a very bad look for a company that really could do with as much good PR as possible after its fiasco with this game.
I would have expected them to take EVERY opportunity to show how much they have changed in the last 4 years.
@anon_pel222 Every developer that has released a Pro patch for their games is neck deep in their next project, yet they manage to do it. Insomniac patched all 4 of their PS5 games. Ubisoft has patched 4 AC games, including the 9-year old Syndicate just yesterday. No excuses. Especially not for Rockstar/Take2.
Cyberpunk ALREADY gets a reasonable boost on the PS5 Pro without a patch by upping the framerate into an area that is far more often in the VRR window making for a much smoother experience. As it uses Dynamic Resolution Scaling you also get a cleaner image more often.
In other unpatched games like Elden Ring it actually puts the Quality (non-RT) mode above the 48fps VRR window most of the time and means you can play on Quality at a smooth framerate if you have a VRR TV, which if you are spending $700 / £700 on a mid-gen console you likely do.
Not every game needs a Pro patch to see meaningful benefits.
@Rich33
They don’t need to ingratiate themselves with Sony. They’ve done more than enough to make up for the fiasco that was the PS4/Xb1 version of this game. Runs and looks great on PS5 base and I think even the Pro would have difficulty running this game in 1440p/high/ultra/60 with RTX on ultra (giving the PS faithful more reasons to complain).
People seem to forget this game is 4 years old next month. Plus, pretty much everyone that wanted to play it has done that by now. I totally understand they don’t bother at this stage, especially since developers are in economically difficult times.
Adoption of this is starting to concern me.
Do we know if Sony are demanding all new releases support the pro by default?
Surprising if not, because their rt mode is basically unplayable on std ps5.
But, it runs well enough, and looks good, with lot of reflections on performance, except slowdowns in centre of city.
@LordAinsley There was a rumor that every game has to support the pro starting with september releases
@Atreus97
You may well be right, but I cant see how irritating Sony, or a bunch of customers, is in their best interests atm. They need as much good PR as they csn get.
@themightyant
I dont disagree - 'boost mode' doesnt get the good press it deserves sometimes, particularly given the PS4 Pro 'boost'.
But I still think an amazing patch would have made CDPR look good.
@Cerny @LordAinsley
DF stated something around Pro upgrades mandated by Sony for games launching after Pro - but I cant remember in which Video so I cant go back and check what they actually said. It was in one of the videos before launch, but after they had seen it running in person.
Absolutely unexpected for me, given that they chosen to update W3 for PS5.
"or perhaps it could have implemented some ray tracing tech." I was under the impression that the ps5 upgrade had ray tracing in the quality preset.
Boooo. This seems like the most obvious thing to do.
@Titntin same here. I've played it off and on but I have so many games on the go I just don't get the time to dedicate myself 100% to it. I bought the expansion too so I really should play it at some point.
Even more reason for Sony to try and buy them after they get Kodokawa then.
This could have used a fov patch. Tried the demo on PS5, but it was unplayable for me. Got it on pc and it plays so much better.
@Titntin how is that a strange decision?? They moved on to newer projects, they don’t have time to tap into an old one just to make it better for PS5 Pro
This is disappointing, and I don’t even have the Pro.
@gollumb82
I have no idea what those settings are, but adding RT in performance mode is probably not a good idea.
The CPU boost is mainly responsible for fixing the framerate of certain pinch point areas in the PS5 game, but that doesnt stop them using the additional GPU to increase some settings. A PSSR option might have done wonders for this game.
In terms of them having done enough - certainly not yet in my opinion - granted, they may have been overtaken by a few dev teams like those behind SW Jedi Survivor, in the list of "Devs to ignore their games before a full DF analysis has been done", and they did eventually fix it up on PS5. But, they are still used by most as the poster bearer for releasing a broken game, and a headline like this has sunk them down in my opinion, even if only a bit.
@Cerny @Rich33 I think that was case for PS4 Pro but I dont remember anything about it this time. Hopefully you're right. To be fair, last time you didnt have to backdate games for Pro. I do find it surprising for CDPR to not take a chance to show off their game looking good, but maybe they're burnt from the whole Cyberpunk thing and ready to just stop thinking about it
#feelsbadman
They will surely brush it up with an inevitable definitive edition for PS6 or 7 xD
I wouldn't replay it much sooner anyway
@Rich33
I may be biased because CP2077 is my favourite game of all time (huge cyberpunk and sci fi fan here). I’ve been gravitating towards cloud gaming heavily recently and CP2077 looks gorgeous streamed via Geforce Now with all the bells and whistles enabled (except Path Tracing). I suppose CDPR is big enough not to care about the launch issues of their games (Witcher 3 was also bugged at launch). Witcher 4 is bound to be a huge success so they probably just decided to focus on that instead.
I think it's good if they focus their efforts on coming projects.
@themightyant yeah exactly, I'm playing the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes and their RT modes now lock to 60fps, giving me an automatic upgrade over the base PS5.
For Cyberpunk, I suspect it's as much that they're moving away from the Red Engine, so wouldn't even be much use as a learning experience
They have definitely moved on to development of there next projects
@Rich33 They don't need good PR or goodwill from Sony. They have 2 game of the generation contenders and the initial problems with Cyberpunk are a distant memory.
The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk and its DLC are incredible. CDPR are in a strong enough position as a developer to be able to call their own shots and not jump on the Pro bandwagon if they don't want to.
@LordAinsley
"To be fair, last time you didnt have to backdate games for Pro."
Im pretty sure devs did have to go in and patch games for 4 Pro, and I seem to remember the launch list being smaller than 5 Pro's launch. There was a boost mode but I dont think it was as capable as the 5 Pro's.
If I remember right for PS4 Pro boost mode could take advantage of the additional clock speeds of the CPU and GPU, but not the additional GPU compute units - that required a patch.
With 5 Pro boost mode can take advantage of additional clock speeds of CPU/GPU and additional Compute units in the GPU, but not PSSR without a patch - there also appears to be some limiting factor based on what DF have said in regards to full GPU useage without a patch.
Incredibly lame. It shouldn't take a massive crew to do this. The ps5 performance mode sucks without RT. This is one of those games where RT is part of the experience.
Got the plat and won't be going back, I'll be honest I would have gone back for the DLC with a Pro patch and I still might but less of a rush now!
Even if they did add PC ray tracing in they would have stuffed it up anyway. Many devs are stuffing up patches such as games like Jedi Survivor and Silent Hill2. Cyberpunk would have just been added to the fail list anyway.
Didn't CDPR already announce that they were done with Cyberpunk?
Already platted it last year on base PS5 and it was soooo good
@Northern_munkey
They mean implementing RT tech that takes advantage of the PS5 Pro, not what's currently implemented.
The quality mode with RT on PS5 runs like ass.
@symmetrian really? I thought it ran OK but I play in performance mode when I do play it.
This is so disappointing hear because this is one of the games a thought was getting a PS5 PRO patch soon😞
the game still looks good on the pro and still runs smoother.
When the PS4 Pro came out CDPR initially said they were not going to update The Witcher 3 for it, but they eventually did. And then of course updated it even more for PS5. So I think they may eventually get around to updating both games for PS5 pro as well.
Sony makes a revision to a console with barely any titles on it to speak of that people want to play and somehow its CDPR that has their image marred for not continuing to iterate on a game they already spent 4 years tinkering with just because Sony didnt make the console with those specs to begin with? Im fully aware of why people choose to go with playstation but at this point if people are begging devs everyday to "make the game better for free because i bought a new console" you have to wonder what the heck the industry is actually doing at this point
@MrMagic but make sure they keep all those games exclusive right? CD isn’t selling for small change. Not sure Sony has that kind of coin to snag both. But the anime they would get is what they are after in that deal. Makes sense.
@xDD90x free patch or update ..... That's what they don't want to give.... Don't know abt CDPR but for R* is 100%....they will charge for Rdr2 60fps in future
@Victor_Meldrew what?
Removed - unconstructive
@danzoEX You could say the same for almost any legacy game that's received a patch, yet these teams have made them. Half a dozen Devs required for a few days at most to get a basic patch in place. The development tools make it very easy implement quick wins.
That's why I think it's a strange decision. You are entitled to think otherwise, but it certainly doesn't invalidate my view.
@Atreus97 I mean, it only hurts CDPR not to, not Sony. Sony seem to have run out of ducks, with the PS5 Pro pricing. Whereas, just as the Phantom Liberty DLC drove a bunch of new sales (like mine) a PS5 Pro patch could drive a few more (especially if it's done well).
Hate to break it to everyone, but CDPR doesn't owe us anything
I knew it...must developers don't have the time for this kind of patches.
