The brief but explosive saga of Sony's failed service punt, Concord, isn't over yet. Your favourite Freegunners will ride again in Secret Level from 10th December, the focus of one of the anthology series' 15 episodes. Secret Level's Tim Miller has noted the elephant in the room for the first time since the game's disastrous launch and subsequent scrubbing from existence.
Speaking to Rolling Stone (thanks, IGN), Miller, of Love, Death & Robots fame, is still grappling with the entire situation. Obviously, he had no idea how Concord would be received, and Secret Level itself has been in the works for over three years. Miller says there was never any discussion of pulling the associated episode and that the devs at Firewalk Studios were a delight: "There was no nicer, more invested group of developers than the team on Concord; I honestly don’t understand why it didn’t work. I know they were trying to do their best, and they were a talented group of artists, so I feel terrible for that."
We'll be interested in seeing Secret Level and what the narrative vision for the IP was originally meant to be. Miller encouraged the developers and praised the universe they created: "I don’t feel bad that it’s part of the show because I think it’s an episode that turned out well, and you can see the potential of this world and the characters. If it’s the remaining vestige of that product, I hope the developers feel that it’s in some way worthy, just a little bit, of the blood, sweat, and tears they put into it."
