The third Sonic movie is speeding towards its December debut, and SEGA and Paramount have just released the latest trailer to get fans ready for the big day.
It provides the best look yet at the film, which focuses on Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) as he works with multigenerational Eggmen to conquer the world.
Of course, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will team up to save the day, and it looks to be yet another light-hearted yet action-stuffed family movie with silly humour woven through. The Detective Pikachu line got a chuckle.
We don't expect this will be a critical darling or cause an upset at The Oscars, but we rather enjoyed the previous two movies, and this looks like another dose of fun. It arrives in theatres on 20th December.

I think this looks brilliant, haha. I can't wait!
That Pokemon joke is solid gold. Also Shadow has a gun ššš
Actually including the part from SA2 where they blow up the moon is crazy, I wouldn't have expected that.
I love how the first trailer was like: āSonic and Eggman team up?!?!?!?ā
Then this trailer just straight up shows heās the villain again lol
We've come so far

Each to their own and everything but this looks just as bad as the first two: lazy pop culture references and way out-of-date Jim Carrey humour. It's clearly not aimed at me haha!
My son is already counting down the days!
And with regards to the Oscarās and all that jazz, I could see Sonic 3 ending up as my favorite film this year (and Iām one of those people that typically watches those Oscarās style films). Man, I donāt know about everyone else, but this has been an off year for movies. Feels like everything Iāve seen in theaters has been like 6/10 or worse (and same for streaming), outside Inside Out 2 and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, which letās be real, neither of them is a āfilm of the yearā either. Only other movie on my list I havenāt seen yet is The Wild Robot.
I like that Detective Pikachu joke they throw in there (and Idris Elba saying āpika pikaā was not something I expected to hearš).
@somnambulance It's not been a fantastic year, but not a terrible one either. There was LOADS of films I really liked this year. I'll thrown in a short list of ones I really liked. Check some of these out if you can:
All of Us Strangers
Dune Part 2
The Iron Claw
Monkey Man
Civil War
Challengers
Love Lies Bleeding
Hit Man
Furiosa
Kinds of Kindness
Longlegs
Crossing
Blink Twice
Rebel Ridge
The Substance
Heretic
Anora
Small Things Like These
@JB_Whiting Thanks for the list. Iāll go through and check out the ones I havenāt seen from that list. So far, the best movies Iāve seen this year have been ones I didnāt see from previous years. Godzilla -1 was a highlight for me. Suzume and Everything Everywhere All at Once too. But this year hasnāt been like last year where I saw The Boy and the Heron and I was like, āWhoa, this is a film of the year film. Not only is it fantastic on its own, but it also recontextualizes things Iāve seen already.ā Not that I expect that out of every film but I hope to get it once in a while. There may be a film that does that for me in your list!
Actually looks very good. I enjoyed the first 2, still need to see the Knuckles serie though.
