It seems Doug Cockle, the English voice of Geralt in The Witcher series since it began, got in some hot water over the comments he made back in August (resulting in articles like this). Cockle claimed that The White Wolf would be "part of the next game" but that the story wouldn't be "about him this time".
That's according to the actor, who commented on the matter in another public setting at MCM Comic Con Birmingham (thanks, GamesRadar+). Cockle previously intimated that Geralt would return in some capacity, but he's walked even that back now, and the actor now claims to know nothing about The White Wolf's whereabouts:
"I did go online, and I said something about this, and then I got slapped by CD Projekt because—I don't know how true it is. I went off a rumour; I thought I'd seen somebody from CD Projekt say that Geralt would be in Witcher 4, but he wouldn't be the main character. I don't actually know if that's true now because they came back and they went, 'We haven't put anything out there, don't say anything!'
Fool us once, Doug, shame on you. What do you think Polaris will be about, and do you think Geralt will put in an appearance? With the project now in full production, we hope to learn something more concrete in the months and years to come. Let us know your theories in the comments section below.

So it seems everyone can fall for baseless rumors? That’s why I don’t believe things until they are officially announced. Never want to anticipate something that doesn’t pan out.
Again, I keep saying this: VAs shouldn't talk about games when they don't know anything about it. Ignore the questions when asked or say "no comment".
@breakneck @LavenderShroud It sounds much more like he knows Geralt is in it but didn't realise he wasn't meant to announce it, then got told by CDPR to say it was just a misunderstanding.
It'd be kind of weird for the VA of Geralt to hear that he'd be returning to voice the character from some random rumour and not say to CDPR "I heard this rumour I'm coming back but you haven't asked me yet. So am I coming back?" and to instead announce it publicly several times even though, supposedly, no-one from CDPR has asked him.
Doug Cockled up.
If he truly didnt know why say something at all then? This smells like he just said things to early and broke some sort of nda
Probably been told to shut up because who would be interested in a witcher story without Geralt in it as the main protagonist? It wouldn't be a witcher game.
@ApostateMage very quick there...🤣👍
I've been a Witcher fan for as long as it's feasibly possible for anyone to be one and I don't think they should even be making a 4th one. Go make something new.
Maybe that was him testing the waters and seeing if he would be involved - now he has his answer!
@JohntheRaptor I mean they did spend u years on CP. Witcher 3 was the first massive success...they were never going to end it there after that.
Get Troy Baker to do an impression of him.
My interest dropped below zero. I don't care about products based on controversies.
How many times do voice actors seemingly do this? I don't believe he was going off a rumour, he just did a Tom Holland!
With the majority of gamers coming to The Witcher through Wild Hunt playing as Geralt (yes, I know, “I read all the books”, “I played from the first game”, well done you), and potential new gamers curious about playing after watching the tv show, they’d be mad not to include Geralt wouldn’t they? Even if he was lead support to carry the story along and the playable character was new. It’d be a glaring omission if the best known character wasn’t there.
