Those of you with strong memories will recall Clover Studio from the PS2 era, an outrageously successfully subsidiary which created all-time classics like God Hand and Viewtiful Joe.
Kamiya would eventually move to PlatinumGames where he directed favourites like Bayonetta, before departing last year.
In a letter about his return, Kamiya expressed that his “body is filled with both a cautious surprise that this is not a dream and a joy that cannot be described in words”.
He continued rather poetically: “Like a strong rising sun, [Okami’s sequel] is finally in motion. But it’s still a small bud that is blossoming. We are ready to fill this new Okami with many colourful flowers, and to do our best to fulfil the promise of ‘next time’ in the best way.”
So, it sounds like we won’t be seeing or certainly playing the next Okami for quite some time, but the fact that Kamiya has returned to Capcom to continue work on this franchise is a truly unexpected announcement. We can’t wait to see where this leads.
