A fresh batch of Monster Hunter Wilds previews have dropped, and impressions continue to be positive with regards to Capcom's upcoming action RPG.
However, it's various developer comments — from the preview events themselves — that are making headlines. For example, Games Radar spoke with director Yuya Tokuda, who revealed that the team is actually working on a number of overhauls based on beta feedback.
Tokuda says that "substantial" changes are being made to the Lance and Switch Axe — two weapon types that could feel very different in the aforementioned beta, compared to their incarnations in previous games (especially Monster Hunter World).
Apparently, Sword and Shield, as well as the much-adjusted Insect Glaive, will also be altered.
Said beta was open to everyone on PS5 just over a month ago, and it sounds like Capcom got a lot of feedback — particularly from players already familiar with the series.
Indeed, one of the most widespread criticisms stemmed from Wilds' lack of hitstop — an animation technique that can add a considerable amount of weight to the player's attacks. For whatever reason, hitstop was massively dialed down in the beta, and veteran hunters noticed the difference almost immediately.
The good news is that hitstop is making a comeback; this latest build of Wilds is already flaunting it, and according to Tokuda, it may be even more prevalent in the finished release. Hurrah!
And then there's the game's performance, which has been questioned since day one off the back of the poorly optimised Dragon's Dogma 2. Again, it's good news: reportedly, this preview build runs much more smoothly than the beta did, and the visuals have been polished up as well.
Tokuda also confirms that Wilds will feature two graphics modes at launch: a 30 frames-per-second fidelity mode, and a 60fps performance mode. That's fairly standard practice, of course, but here's hoping that Capcom continues to improve things, because the beta was rough on PS5.

Good - i just wish those two graphic modes will have a locked framerate option (that can be removed so it can run smoother on PS6).
Performance in the playable demo was awful. Hopefully that is a focus and not an afterthought like Dragon's Dogma 2
I really liked the beta and I'm hoping we get another beta before release.
Yeah after the beta and the abysmal launch quality for Dragon's Dogma, I'm gonna sit and wait for this one.
I love MH but even i will be holding out on this one to see how it reviews. The longer i wait the better it will become i suppose 🤷
Sounds good to me. I wasn't happy with the beta but its good to hear they are listening.
I'm so glad hitstop is back in, combat would have felt off without it
A friendly reminder for those hoping for 60 fps on PS5 that the game required frame generation just to run at 60 fps 1080p on PC.
It will run like ***** on consoles unfortunately, which bums me out, I'm torn between getting a physical copy or play it on Steam.
Monster hunter world 🌎 is easily one of the best video games ever made.and monster Hunter wilds looks amazing also.word up son
Super exciting update! Glad to hear about the hitstop.
Yo I played this Beta and I must say, this game felt life changing - like it felt like Monster Hunters Elden Ring moment. Like chasing a giant monster through a stampede of 40 dinos, and the giant monster picks one up, bites it with mouth then tosses that dino like a baseball 70 yards away. The difference between this game and Monster Hunter Rise is like a PS2 vs PS4 game. PlayStation fam eatin all 2025. Word up son.
I just hope they make performance better.
Great news. The beta was promising but certainly needed some tweaking.
@MeanBeanEgg Cool, thanks for giving everyone a heads up!! 🤡
Still deciding between PS5 and PC version. Luckily for the first time it has cross play so I'll be able to play with my friends either way.
Any word on how it runs on the pro? And what performance/fidelity options would be available for that?
@Athrum Beta is an old build my dude and literally says at the end of the article that the new build runs smoother.
I have high expectations for this game, but will wait for reviews and an inevitable stable version.
