PlayStation is 30 years old this week, if you can believe such a thing, and so celebrations are in order. The company's just released a 'Thank You' video through its official channels, taking fans on a breakneck tour of some beloved games.
Interestingly, most of the titles that show up in this montage are fairly new, but a handful of classics make the cut as well.
The footage is overlayed with some choice words, alluding to the scope of PlayStation as a platform. Everything from "love", "friendship", and "family", to "justice", "fear", and "infamy" is referenced here, with select games tied to each theme.
What do you make of this video? Are any of your favourite PlayStation games highlighted? Try not to get too soppy in the comments section below.

A thank you video, wow. How about a couple of extra games, or even some playstation store credit.
@BeerMonster "give me free stuff"
That has got me emotional. 30 years! I remember getting a PS1 with wipEout and am just thinking back to all the hundreds of games played and hours of joy between then and now.
Here's to the next 30!
For anyone curious with the song, it's Dreams by The Cranberries (RIP Dolores 🙏). I put the official link if anyone interested to hear the full song.

OT. I'm 40 years old and Playstation has been in my life for 30 years, gave me plenty of memorable gaming experiences.
So, i just wanna say..thank you Playstation. Cheers for another 30 years 🍻
That video gave me the chills as there are so many memories there from my younger years. Congrats PlayStation on 30 year 🎉
Thank you for your £700 for our mild upgrade console, suckers!!
How about they thank us by having a showcase
@PuppetMaster 99% correct. This is the trailerized (sic) mix/cover version which is a little more ethereal.

Aww that's lovely, now get the PSSR sorted oot.
Ending the video with Bloodborne and saying “It’s About Persistence”, surely a 60FPS update, Remake or Sequel its inevitable at this point
I ... wanted to see a split second of Castlevania Symphony of the Night on the PS1 "It's about Legacy"
When I was 14 I worked two weeks on a Christmas Tree farm in the rain in July to save enough money for a PS1.
As soon as I had enough money I quit, got a lift in to Dun Laoghaire to Electronics Boutique to grab a PS1, RE2 AND FF VII. I can still remember lifting each of them off the shelf.
That was a good summer.
@BeerMonster There's always a freeloader
@Logonogo That's right, if you want to thank me for spending tens of thousands of pounds on your product over the years, then give me something, not a patronising video that probably took all of ten minutes to make.
@BiosNova See my previous comment
This was excellent, emotive, transcending the corporate materialism and getting to what gaming is all about!
That split second MGS4 and Bloodborne tease at the end tho. Damn, Sony really need to do something about their "legacy"
It’s a very nice video! If they don't do something of a showcase to compliment this occasion then i don't know what to tell ya
1:53 looks interesting. What is that? Sony seems to keep it secret.
I was slightly late to the party (I got mine aged 7 in 1998) but I remember going to a friend's and playing his brand new N64 with Mario 64, coming home and pleading my parents for one. My parents - who showed zero interest in gaming however - had read about this system that was apparently the future in the newspaper and decided I was having that for Christmas instead.
Off I went to Electronics Boutique (at the time - Now GAME) and picked up a PS1 with gran turismo, tomb raider 2, fifa 99, and wipeout 2097 (and my older brother got resident evil 2). My mind was absolutely blown and I've loved Playstation ever since.
Absolutely terrifying that it's been 30 years since it launched in Japan but a sign of how significant and influential Sony's initial foray into gaming was. What a console that little grey box turned out to be.
Made me weirdly emotional watching that, shocking how fast time flys by. Got my PlayStation for my 12th birthday in 1996 and nothing has quite felt like a gaming home since.
Guess we'll see what the 3rd has in store tomorrow, if anything.
To think this all down to Nintendo really.
I remember Christmas Day 1996 opening my PS1 with Crash Bandicoot. I think the only Christmas I have been more excited for is when I got my PS2 four years later. While it’s cool being an adult and being able to buy these things yourself there is something magical about the build up to Christmas Day as a kid when you know you are going to get a new console. Certainly more magical than hammering refresh on an Amazon order screen to try and secure a PS5 day one.
Geez, that hit me in the feels.
Meh. It was nice seeing some of the cool stuff they used to make. I sure do miss the older days of playstation. Live long and prosper Asobi
@Pepsiman_100 But a large chunk of the trailer is the new games.
This was emotional and through most of it I was like aww but I just lost it when it said Connections and the Kingdom Hearts characters appeared that really hit me in the feels 😅😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I know, I know, eat the rich, down with corpos, Etc Etc...
but cheese and rice are there a lot of entitled gamers out there? Can't we like the thing for the thing it is? Why is there always one guy begging for money and free games, another one port begging, people crying for a showcase, and 3 people with nostalgia glasses so thick they can't see anything but the past?
Thanks for the memories PlayStation!
Been here since the start. 💖
I didn't realize that I'm about 6 months older then the Playstation brand. Crazy.
Nice to see Nate, Sackboy and Wipeout shown - never to return again? Far more iconic than the recent meh titles.
I can’t think of a better way to show your thanks to legions of diehard fans who’ve supported you consistently over the last 30 years than by limiting the only half-decent looking PS5 Pro to 12K units and unnecessarily removing awesome themes for no real reason after only 1 month.
@get2sammyb sorry I'm not sure what you mean.
Around 14 in my bedroom in mid 90s playing those now PlayStation 1 classics like RidgeRacer, TR, RE123, GranTurismo, CrashBandicoot, MGS and Silent Hill listening to Oasis along with an N64 a little later. Those will be my fav gaming nostalgia memories forever and it's crazy to think all those games I just mentioned are still going strong in some way to this very day. This trailer hit me hard ngl, especially the end bit when it mentions the word you🥹
Lovely video. Having been there since the start (maybe a year late, since I was Saturn all the way... and still am) it's a quality bite of nostalgia.
Well, Sony/Playstation lost all its magic since the launch of PS5.
But talk to me again after the TGAs when the first ND trailer hits, I might forgive them for the worst 4 years in gaming (regarding exclusives obviously)
Funny how it ended with Bloodborne, Game Awards announcement inbound?
@danzoEX Resistance in there too just before Bloodborne
Yo this trailer was beautiful... Thank you PlayStation for my childhood years and even now
And they end it with Bloodborne, come on Push Square, write a couple of "articles" about how they are cooking something.... sigh
@BeerMonster Nobody forced you to spend that money…
Amazing video!!! Loved it! The old intro too, so happy today! I'm with Playstation since the One!
That is the best marketing I've seen from Sony since they destroyed XB1 with the 15 second 'How to share games' commercial. Also, I got teared up a little. That was some high polish. The ico->Shadow of the Colossus->Guardian transition was epic.
@Shepherd_Tallon God damn, gaming nostalgia hits so hard.
@Frmknst You were happy once. It must have been awful for you.
Okay now who's cutting onions? Seriously though the nostalgia was strong with this one and that was a good video.
@BeerMonster Got nothing for that money no? Thanks for donating. I've spent a decent amount of it too but got games and consoles in return.
Thank you PlayStation.i been with you since day 1 here in queens new york in September 9.1995.from a fan of sega genesis to PlayStation.i never look back.im still with the PlayStation.thats legendary g.o.a.t. 🐐 👑 status.word up son
@Pepsiman_100
You must be very young
I can't believe they put Horizon infrot of God of war 🙄🤯🤯🤯🤯
Right in the feels... I'm getting old, started gaming on a C64, then DOS, consoles. I owned a lot of them but the first playstation was magical. But the playstation 2 is the console I love dearly. The library on that console is insane, truly insane. If I had to make a choice which gaming system I had access to for the rest of my life and missing the others I wouldn't blink an eye. On to the next 30 years!
Best Playstation story I have is how I acquired a PS1. My sister had a very spoiled friend growing up. One day my mom and I go to drop her off at said friends house. When we go inside my mind was blown when I saw a PS1 in the living room. Now I was giddy being a gamer and being pretty poor growing up. I told her I couldn't believe she had one. She says I don't really even like it. Me being a kid I immediately follow her up with "Well can I have it then??" She said "sure" and her mother with some hesitation let me have it. One of the best memories I have from my childhood.
Bloodborne is the last game featured. Hmm....
@BeerMonster you bought the consoles, they made the games and the platform to play other 3rd party games.
They owe you nothing, but also you owe them nothing.
For those mid 30s-40+ in age, spending your early gaming years in the Nintendo vs Sega era. Playstation coming onto the scene was such a big thing and look at where we are now. What a wild ride.
I always have had a Playstation (primary) and Nintendo console since I was a kid. Every gen, all the great games that have come out. The great IPs that have come and gone. I feel like Playstation has continued to mature and grow over the years to cater to a gamer at any age. Yes, Nintendo still has the nostalgia factor, and still makes great games, but the target audience is always and has been kids first.
Can't wait to see what the next 30 bring
