We liked Zenless Zone Zero a lot when it launched in July, and we’ve stuck with it in the five or so months since. But HoYoverse said it was committed to fan feedback, and it wasn’t kidding – it’s effectively transformed the game in the five or so months since.
One crucial alteration, which will be completed with the introduction of v1.4 on 18th December, will see the flow of the story transformed, as the tile-based TV mode gameplay – used to navigate between combat stages – will be replaced with puzzle platforming style interludes.

If you already play the game, then you’ll know what a remarkable change this is; if you don’t, then just imagine a key component of the gameplay being completely revamped for existing story chapters and all future ones. Speaking of which, the new update will continue the main plot with Chapter 5 and a bunch of Agent Stories.
HoYoverse is treating this version of the game as a kind of soft relaunch, and so its most anticipated character Hoshimi Miyabi will be available right throughout the update as part of a promoted banner. She’ll be flanked by fellow S-Rank Harumasa, who’ll be given away for free to all players who reach Inter-Knot Level 8.
Beyond the new agents, story, and structural changes, the dev is also making some remarkable alterations to gameplay systems. Characters will no longer share the Ultimate meter, allowing each team member to have a greater impact on combat. Other quality of life enhancements will make building your squad swifter and smoother.
And perhaps most importantly of all, PS5 Pro support is being added, boasting enhanced performance, visual fidelity, and ray tracing support. The results are impressive, as illustrated in the screenshots within, but if you’d like to learn more about the feature then you can read our interview through here.

I stopped playing recently, mostly due to the dull TV gameplay. This SHOULD pull me back, but to be honest I prefer having the free time to play other games. Too many live services.
EDIT: Though Miyabi was the character I was waiting for... (damn it)
I stopped playing because I didn’t like the TV tile gameplay. I have a lot of stuff to play right now, so I don’t know if I’ll return to this, but the change can only be for the better.
Regardless of what people think of the players voice thing. Zzz has been a blast to play this year. And it's only getting better. It deserves to be recognized
Been playing since day one and it has improved steadily over time. I was a big fan of the TV system they had (in some occasions it was used very creatively), but the combat is so good that they really did need to do more to focus on it during moment to moment gameplay.
I love their character designs and I feel like it's been more than generous (at least to me) as I have only spent a little real money on the game but have almost all the agents.
Honestly haven't installed on the Pro despite playing Nikki on it rn 😅
Still going through the hollow tvs event on my potato phone fr 🤳
Jumping into next update would certainly be a visual feast🤞
Sounds good. I basically stopped doing the TV missions altogether as they were getting pretty stale. A total revamp is very welcome.
It's the first live-service game that truly got me, I'm super excited for its future.
