Helldivers 2 Dev Is Starting to Think About What's Next 1

Helldivers 2 is a live service game designed to last for several years, but while the brunt of Swedish dev Arrowhead’s workforce focuses on new content for the co-op hit, creative director Johan Pilestedt is beginning to ponder what’s next.

“With 10 minutes to 2025: what are your expectations and desires for what the next Arrowhead game will be?” he quizzed on X (or Twitter), as spotted by VGC. “I am working on the high concept, but I would love to hear your speculation.”

Arrowhead has largely worked on co-op games, like Magicka and the first Helldivers, which was a modestly successful isometric shooter published for multiple PlayStation platforms.

Helldivers 2 has become a breakout hit for the Stockholm studio, however, securing the accolade of fastest-selling PS Studios title of all-time. Whatever the dev makes next will attract a lot of eyeballs.

It’s worth noting that while Sony is the publisher of Helldivers, it doesn’t actually own the developer. There has been some speculation over the years that it’s lining up an acquisition, but it seems Arrowhead is eager to retain its independence.

That means it’s free to sign with whichever publisher it prefers for its next project, although judging by what Pilestedt is saying here, it could be years before we actually see what it’s plotting. Helldivers 2 took almost a decade to make, and for the foreseeable future, we’d expect the brunt of Arrowhead’s efforts to be focused on supporting that.
