We don't know where, or even if, the inherent need to port seminal shooter DOOM to the most unlikely hardware imaginable will ever cease. In any case, a high school student has somehow managed to convert id Software's eternally influential game to Portable Document Format (PDF), playable in a web-based browser.
The future boss of thousands (probably), Github user and "high school student" adding2210, was inspired by a similar project to bring Tetris to Adobe Systems Incorporated's unlikely format (thanks, IGN). Dubbed "DOOMPDF", while it might not be capable of displaying sound or colour, and we can't imagine putting up with it for more than a few moments, buts it's DOOM in a Chrome browser!
What do you think of DOOM running on a PDF in a browser? Never stop innovating in the comments section below.

That’s it! Time to quit. This is absolutely the peak for “Will it Run Doom?” I don’t see how they can do anything more impressive than this? It’s always fun seeing these.
At this rate I’ll be running Doom, completely unaware.
Just looked at this developer's GitHub page. If they really are a high school student, what tremendous talent at such a young age! They have a bright future in whatever they pursue.
I love it when there's a new discovery in the "Doom on ___" saga
By the way - this is NOT a good advert for pdfs.... think twice when you think certain digital containers / products are just simple data transfer formats.
Can someone please port it to my nail clippers. I want to have something to do while I am clipping my nails. Please
But can it run Crysis?
My work laptop barely runs normal PDFs to be fair so curious if this could work
@LavenderShroud Let's put it on the sega pico!
@beltmenot Hell yes!!! That’s the next step!
A PDF is pretty interesting but it is still in a web browser not in say an app like Adobe Acrobat to view it or a editor so I do think it's not that impressive.
That and depends on the code, probably ways to work around it so I'd say it is impressive the engine or whatever they are using to make the buttons/inputs work and the graphics as obviously editors/viewers and the images/text or select-able elements, yeah I can see it being possible.
But many others with screens/software are.
Is Doom in a Excel Spreedsheet at this point? People have contests or esports or something for Excel stuff and the calculations/equations so maybe it's possible. Could instead of Doom RPG make a Math Doom. Something like Rayman Brain Games on PS1 or something. Doom Edutainment edition.
Or anything else it hasn't been in yet.
Then again seeing the Toxic music video run on a floppy disk was cool (Science Elf YT). Among many other things that are possible on different levels of hardware/software/text and code types.
