The Legend of Dragoon Just Got an Unexpected Patch on PS5, PS4

I played it last year and i don't experience any problems. I need to continue my playthrough though but after i finish Wild Arms 3.

Oh and RE Directors Cut also got a patch. Now PAL version can switch to NTSC version.

I'd rather they be slow but thorough. Old game code is a headache as it is.

I almost jumped out of my seat seeing Dart in the thumbnail, thought it was a remake rumour or something

this is absoultely pathetic. a 25 year old ps1 game is struggling to be emulated properly on current gen platforms. why is this happening??? why does a ps1 rom require patches in the first place? if you can't add ehancements to the game, then don't. FREE community driven ps1 emulators do a far better job than sony, and yet people are still crying for more ps1 classics on ps5, despite knowing that they will perform worse than the ps1 original or the myriads of emulation options available on their pc's or legacy ps hardware? what's the annual budget of the emulation team at sony? 100 bucks?

at this point, don't even bother. ps1 emulation was pitch perfect on the ps2, ps3, psp and vita and yet here we are in 2025 and they can't get ps1 games to run properly on significantly more powerful hardware. just wow.

I've never played this game despite always hearing gushing praise. I keep holding off thinking there will be a remake at some point.

Anyway, what is critical that I finish Legend of Dragoon one of these days. I started 24 years ago, and really liked it, but never finshed it. PSX era was truly great for jrpg's!

@Porco Team with passion vs Team doing it only for the pay I guess. I still want more classic psone games on ps5 though, it's fun replaying classic games from my childhood compared to AAA slop we get from western devs. I wish ps5 emulation is better though, I prefer playing psone games on tv with 5.1 surround on ps5 compared to pc.

And I can't believe it, but sony actually playing nice for its player, if you bought psone classic from either ps3 or psvita, you can claim the games free on ps5 😃

I literally just completed it 5 days ago so timing is a coincidence, other than getting the insert disc waiting I didn't have any problems and those were just unnecessary delays

@Orpheus79V Yeah hopefully along with Dino Crisis 2, BoF 3 & 4, MegaMan Legends 1 & 2, and Strider 2. But Capcom probably gonna temporarily hide them behind PS+ Extra / Premium.

What was the patch? I played this on PS5 only a week ago and haven't come across any issues.

Interesting, I played through the game 3 times on PS5 without encountering any issues at all. Maybe I got lucky?

@wiiware yea, the carryover of ps1 classics from psp/vita/ps3 is still in effect for ps4/ps5 which is nice. i was surprised to see my 13 year old purchase of grandia available on ps4. but unfortunately, only a fraction of the ps classics library has made its way to ps4/ps5 and i don't expect that to change much.

that said, i recommend that you try ps1 games on ps3. especially if you have a modded ps3, it will run the entire ps1 library in .bin/.cue format with perfect emulation. the upscaling is sharp. no bells and whistles such as rewind or save states of course, but that's a small convenience to lose when you have the entire ps1 game library at your disposal. currently playing though lunar and couldn't be happier with the experience

@Porco So if you own a PS1 game bought through PS3 you get the PS4/PS5 version as well down the line ???

If so might explain why G-Police on PS4/5 version is available to download as I have PS+ Extra not Premium. I think I'll go looking on PS3 store for the cheaper version see if it unlocks the PS4/5 version

@Nakatomi_Uk yea, so long as said game gets re-introduced by sony and is available for purchase on psn for ps4/ps5, then it should be free for you to download again.

there are a number of capcom ps1 games that were only available via premium ps+ subscribtion for ps4/ps5 (could not be purchased seperately) and in those cases, the game will not be available to you on ps4/ps5. i think dino crisis is available, though... if you owned the ps3 version.

@Porco G Police is £1.99 on PSN or was when I bought 2 weeks ago, so to get the PS4/5 version as well it a right bargain. Unfortunately quite a few games are going from the PS3 store it's getting thinner and thinner I missed on LAPD Future Cop that's been removed.

Metal Gear Solid PS1 version is the next game wonder if that unlocks the new release doubt it though

@Porco I already sold my ps3 for ps4, and my ps4 for ps5 lol, playing psone games on (non-modded) psvita is still fun though, since the screen is small psone games didn't seems too pixelated compared to playing it on ps5 on 55inc tv. I have fun replaying castlevania sotn on psvita 😃

I loved this game when it released on PS1. Back then I would immediately buy any JRPG that popped up, and Legend of Dragoon filled the need at the time. It isn’t a game that has held up over the years if you compare it to Suikoden 1 or 2 from the same era.

@wiiware oh, i see. i could never part with my old hardware. too many memories and too many games left to play on them! but, yes, ps1 games look amazing on the vita so that's not a bad way to go.

@Porco Yeah, sometime I kind of regrets selling my old nintendo hardware like my wii u, now after I bought a refurbish wii u and softmod it myself, its my go to machine for playing old nintendo wii/gamecube/n64/snes/nes games on tv.

But playstation new home console hardware usually just the same but better than the old one, not unique like nintendo console, so I feels safe selling it. Not the portable one of course, love my psp and oled psvita
