The UK's very last physical games chart of 2024 doesn't hold too many surprises, but mixing in with the games you'd expect are a few past bestsellers.
Elden Ring hasn't been in the top 40 for a couple of weeks, but re-enters the top 10 at number six. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V has jumped up from 16th to eighth, and Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition rejoins at number nine.
It's very likely these have all had a bump thanks to holiday season price cuts, but whatever the case, they've shaken things up a little as the new year gets started.
Number one goes to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, followed by Hogwarts Legacy in second and EA Sports FC 25 in third. Sonic X Shadow Generations, no doubt buoyed by Sonic the Hedgehog 3's arrival in cinemas, is up from 13th to 10th.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 28th December, 2024

We could see both GTA 5 & 6 in the Top 10 at this rate
Insane longevity
Was tarrying a bit in Shadow of the Erdtree yesterday, Elden Ring is so special. HFW, GoW have all the super graphics yet I have more screenshots of ER than those 2, art direction is just the thing. Found a path that's been right under the nose in the Fort of Reprimand, a place I've treaded a million times, intriguing how they hide things in plain sight.
No Astrobot, no Metaphor, no Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, no Stellar Blade, no Silent Hill 2, no Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, no Dragon's Dogma 2, no Helldivers 2, no Persona 3 Reload, no Black Myth Wukong...
no Pushsquare Top 10 of the year...
and there are still people who say it has been a great year.
@Fritz167 Guess it goes to show that great games don't always equate to great sales (long-term or otherwise) unfortunately. I'm honestly not sure why some games blow up the way they do and some don't.
This doesn't apply to all games you mentioned of course because Wu Kong sold crazy numbers.
@Fritz167 Great year for me i played fantastic games.
Cant be bothered that people cant recognise great games if they beat over the head with one.
Still not played GTA 5 on any platform or COD or whatever popular game in years.
@Fritz167 its a top 10 for physical games only so digital games not included.
Mario Kart has the legs of a horse.
In at number 4 still.
I’m one of the ones who bought Elden Ring.
It was only £22 from Game Collection. Bargain!
Wish me luck. It’s my first FromSoftware game… 😬
@Daleaf all these game are available on physical.
"Wish me luck. It’s my first FromSoftware game"
It was my first too and still remains the best game after several years of catching up on top tier titles. I also went back and tried Sekiro (too hard) and Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne that I found inferior to Elden Ring primarily from the extremely annoying respawn points when you die (felt like 10% of gameplay was walking back to the area where I died).
@Fritz167 i know that but most ppl buy digital these days so the top 10 chart would be completley different if digital was also included
It's crazy to think that for the last 14 years the top 10 selling games are all the same pretty much
@Daleaf don't be so sure about that, although I wish it were that way.
OMG, stop buying GTAV!! No wonder we don't get more frequent released from Rockstar, they don't really need to put anymore games out, they'll just become like Valve at this rate! xD
@Icey664 I think what pushes GTA V into the ranks time and time again is that you can purchase GTA Online separately from the story mode. That's the only thing that I can think of that makes logical sense.
@Fritz167 Those games have higher ratings than most of those games in the charts, but just because a game is reviewed extremely well doesn't mean it's guaranteed to sell gangbusters like casual games do, especially the JRPG's which most casual players have never heard of. At work I said I was playing Metaphor Re Fantazio, I was the only one there who knew what that game was, everyone else just wants to play GTA, Fifa and Call of Duty.
I finally bought Elden Ring after procrastinating all this time. It was on sale for $30.
After about 3 hours, I realized that the souls-like genre is probably not for me. Glad I didn’t pay full price.
Seems like a quality game, but the controls feel awkward and you die after just a couple hits. Frustration was my most keenly felt emotion while playing this game.
@Fritz167 obviously COD would still be no 1 but i think it would be different without doubt, but until we get charts with both included we will never know 🤣. Its so redundant the physical charts now i think they have to include both
@Kienda Good luck Tarnished. Remember to level vigor and don't spread your stats too much and you'll be fine. It's a great game.
@8bit4Life 3 hours isn't really long enough. Get some armour, use a shield. Before long you will be destroying mobs.
@OldGamer999 and not even discounted for the holidays either. Switch must still be selling well
@8bit4Life Yo yo yo yo!!! Get back in there and overcome difficulty. Don't use that "not for me" line soldier! You'll thank us later when you feel that sense of accomplishment with little by little progress 🤣. Seriously though, the difficulty is what makes the Souls interesting, keep trying and fyi you're not supposed to defeat every enemy you meet, you'd have to come back later when you're stronger.
@Kienda Good luck! Always leave yourself enough stamina for one roll, even when you think you won't need it
@Fritz167 This is only UK chart and yes last year was a great year for gaming.
@kevinm360
It comes second to PS5 is USA and Europe now but first in Japan.
Still doing well for and 8 year old console being replaced this year 2025 and at full price and sold about 145 million already.
That’s why good ole Sony and Microsoft have started looking at handheld consoles again.
Oooooo look money to made here 🤣
Who knows somebody who has actually bought GTA V within the last 12 months?
@OldGamer999 I already have a Switch and am still tempted to get a Switch OLED even with the 2 on its way, just for that good quality screen at a competitive price. If the Switch 2 has an OLED screen then its an immediate upgrade from my current Switch
@Bluemoon2008 people who already own it on PS4 are double dipping for the PS5 version (or even triple dipping)
@TheArt I may give it another shot. Right now I picked up Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion for $15 on the Capcom sale. I will use this game as practice for the main event coming at the end of February.
@kevinm360
I play Switch docked all the time so the switch 2 screen LCD or OLED doesn’t mean that much to me.
I’m just waiting to see the Switch 2 release games to decide on day one switch 2 or not.
Will be interesting to see Nintendos approach on cross generations. If we get for years games that run switch and switch 2 and don’t really take advantage of switch 2 new technology.
I really hope they go straight switch 2 only games, had enough of cross generation games with PS4/PS5 and Xbox one/Xbox series. Went on far too long.
This generation for the big 2 has been almost 4 years of diminishing returns on the new consoles.
