Sorry, wrestling fans. If you haven't moved on to WWE 2K24 already, your opportunity to earn WWE 2K23's Platinum Trophy is now gone. Multiplayer servers have been shuttered, adding the game's shiny gong to the growing list of permanently unobtainable Trophies.
Spied by PSLS, the topic of these lost Trophies has risen again, with players having long petitioned PlayStation to remove such ruinous requirements from Trophy lists. Add to that the argument that some have put forward that multiplayer Trophies in primarily single-player games are essentially paywalled (requiring a PS Plus subscription), and it's clear there's plenty of room for improvement in the space.
Sadly, the noble Trophy Hunter has always been a rare beast, and many (me) have largely aged out of the pursuit, having less free time than we once did. Regardless, Sony has shown little inclination to overhaul its meta-game meaningfully, but we'd love to see it happen.
What do you think of these unobtainable relics? Have you encountered any broken Trophy lists lately? Let us know in the comments section below.

…Annnnnnnd that’s why I rarely if ever spend money on games with online, server dependent trophies.
Devs need to learn if they want our money, don’t butcher the trophy lists. Games built from the ground up around online connectivity/multiplayer are one thing, and everyone knows what they’re getting into when they get involved with them. But keep that trash out of our predominantly single player experiences. Either that, or build in a contingency. I believe Mass Effect 3 had the foresight to structure the trophy list wherein all online related trophies had alternative methods of unlocking that could be attained purely offline. That is competent, quality work—not the disgusting laziness most devs sink to nowadays.
Oh no. Anyway.
But in all seriousness, while I’m not a Trophy/Achievement hunter and don’t really condone it, I do think it’s so stupid a lot of games have online requirements to get them because at some point you won’t be able to anymore.
@Balaam_ Have you tried just not getting platinum trophies?
This game isn't even 2 years old. What a joke.
This is why i mainly play single player games and rarely bother with going for the platinum in games with online components.
Trophies don't really matter that much, so the title of the article is a bit odd. The actual news part of this news is a game that hasn't been out for that long getting its servers axed.
That said, I think it makes sense to lock some trophies behind multiplayer from the company's POV since it can create fomo for people who care about trophies a lot. I'm just glad it doesn't affect my enjoyment of a game.
I always check a trophy guide before buying a game to ensure trophies aren’t broken or unobtainable, and will usually avoid buying a game where it’s the case. Quite apart from what it says about the devs level of care to its customers, I’d feel like I was only getting a part of a game if the platinum campaign was busted. Still might buy it if it’s on heavy sale (I.e. I pay only part of the price for a partial game) but usually not.
@nessisonett
I personally often don’t go for the platinum trophy if I find some of the challenges onerous. But that’s no excuse for a game to be broken from the start or become broken after a period of time.
I find it funny how people dismiss developer set challenges (trophy challenges) just because they aren’t voiced as a game task by some NPC.
@nessisonett Why not put the multiplayer trophies seperate from the normal trophies.
@Netret0120 I had to boost the multiplayer from the tombraider reboot the funny thing is i hated the game so much after obtaining them i quit the singleplayer game.
@Flaming_Kaiser Fair enough but this dude just whines constantly about trophies to the point that the language being levelled towards devs is fairly horrible. It seems like an obsession more than a hobby.
I've got zero interest in trophies, and I think it makes most sense to play games because you'll enjoy playing the game.
But some people do like the achievement hunt, so I think Sony should make it possible for devs to edit their platinums if a game goes offline, and devs with sincere intentions should use those features.
@Balaam_ first time I actually agree with you and the first time you've made a comment I can take seriously. Single player games should not have trophys that require you to have any kind of online presence. There have been too many games that I could have platinumed but the multiplayer aspects have made it frustratingly unobtainable for me seeing as I work full time and I have other hobby outside of the PlayStation especially once the better weather hits. There are games like the battlefield ones that I don't even bother with trying to get the trophys because it would require me to dedicate myself to that one title and I'm just not interested. There are games that require an online connection such as diablo 4,helldivers 2 etc where the trophys are within my time frame to commit to unlocking and also because I just love those kind of games. If a games servers are going to be shut down then all trophys should be obtainable offline or the trophy list should be altered to accommodate the circumstance the game finds itself in. If you can add trophys and features I'm sure the devs can remove trophys that require features that are removed at a later date. I feel sorry for those concord players who didn't stand a chance of getting the platinum.
Fortunately, the community is quite aware the 2K and EA sports games' servers are destined for disconnected 18ish months out from release. This time next year WWE 2K24's MyFaction severs will be inaccessible, too. The F1 games are brutal with how quickly the servers go down.
This is why I avoid games with MP trophies unless back in the PS3 days I played an awful lot of online games like battlefield 3, Bad company 2 etc but have a family now and dont have the time like I used too for games. Its maybe 2 to 3 hrs every other day if I'm luckily and weekend maybe if I'm not exhausted
If a game has MP trophies they should be under its own sub list and away from the platinum, exactly the same as New Game+ and Insane difficulty modes as well. I just want to be able to play the game and enjoy unlocking trophies because they usually are for side quests or to make the game a little longer so I get my monies worth.
Oh, no! No platinum? That's just terrible. Anyway...
@nessisonett In this case its just bad design of the trophies layout i have seen it done where they seperate lists. Nothing is more annoying then something being unobtainable especially with sometimes even new games its annoying.
@nessisonett Yeah, I agree. I play a game for fun. Not just to focus on whatever trophies it has. Sure they can be fun at times, but they should in no way be obsessed over like that.
Shocking the amount of people who come to these articles to just laugh at those that find the act collecting trophies enjoyable, just like other aspects of gaming. It’s crap that the servers have shut down but the shear snobbery is worse.
@PeaceSalad Personally I just feel people take them way too seriously, like the guy throwing a fit and bad mouthing companies doing these kinds of trophies. I do agree that multiplayer trophies aren’t the best idea, but it’s not anything that matters to me and I’m certainly not going to cry about it.
Next year it will be Topspin 2K25's turn
@PeaceSalad This. Trophies are huge to some people, personally I won't play a game if the trophy list looks to be too much of a nightmare. I've passed on many because of that. If I ever do get a game with online trophies I aim to knock them out first so I can then concentrate on the single player. But I don't see the point of playing a game nowadays if I don't have a virtual trinket to tell everyone where I'm up to with it. The reason I don't have a Switch is because there's no achievement / trophy system on Nintendo.
@LavenderShroud it’s their prerogative to take them seriously. That guy is just a bad actor, who needs some perspective. Some of my favourite gaming memories have been boosting with a group of regulars from this very site.
@elvisfan1 Absolutely friend, their are many here do the same. I’ll always defend your right to enjoy that, I don’t really see the need for so much snark. Happy hunting 👍
@PeaceSalad I don't see it as snobbery per se but I agree that some people do take it a bit too seriously. I enjoy trophy hunting but it's not the be all and end all. Over my gaming history (ps3,ps4 and ps5) I have 6 platinums and maybe another 5 or 6 that could have been but at the end of the day I game for enjoyment nothing more.
2K should be banned for this. I have this game and it sucks with that move. I'm fine with this one wrestling game
@Northern_munkey I mean unless the person in question is affecting another person, being abusive for example, how serious can earning digital trinkets get? A lot of people seem agitated by things that have zero impact on their own lives and it’s baffling. Happy gaming, friend 👍
@PeaceSalad The guy is genuinely abusive on several articles. Feel free to look through his comments.
@nessisonett Oh I’ve seen his work, that was the point I’m making in that he is a bad actor. Besides that clown the discussion shouldn’t rattle cages, just let people enjoy their trophies 👍
