Rebellion’s left it relatively late, but it’s sold us on Atomfall. This extended gameplay shows off the core features of the game, and it looks great.
As many of you may already know, the story’s based on the real-life Windscale fire, which was the worst nuclear disaster in the UK’s history.
Here we see a very British backdrop with a twist: there are cults occupying parts of the Lake District, robots are roaming the terrain, and you’re going to get your ass kicked if you don’t keep your wits about you.
The gameplay all looks very Fallout, but there are some really smart systems here. There’s no currency, for example, so you need to trade with merchants using items in your inventory. There are no quests either, so you’ll need to explore and follow leads to progress through the campaign.
While it seems like survival is a big part of the release, there are individual toggles for each gameplay element that can help you tailor the experience to your tastes. You can turn down the difficulty of combat if you find it tough, for example, or turn up the frequency of resources if you’re not a fan of grinding for certain items.
We reckon this is going to be a bit of a sleeper hit, and it’s a complete change of pace for developer Rebellion, which is best known for the Sniper Elite series.
Will you be giving this game a chance when it launches on 27th March? Let us know in the comments section below.

The setting alone is very intriguing.
Yeah I watched an extended gameplay trailer of this a couple of months ago… looks class. I rate Rebellion and reckon this could be their break-out hit into the mainstream.
It looks good, hope the gameplay sticks the landing.
I had this on my list for a while. Will be picking it up around June, if it turns out to be as great as it seems to me.
Really looking forward to this one, Rebellion are great devs and the setting’s a banger idea.
Clearly biased but games set in England always get my attention more, especially when they go for the quaint countryside vibe.
Everyones gone to the Rapture had the same appeal because of how it looked.
Keep forgetting about this game, I will wait on reviews to see if I'll take the dive.
As all i see, i say a big: YES! I will give a chance. After all is not a small company.
Is sniper elite company. And im a big fan of sniper games. Lets see.hipe the game succeed
It’s lovely in the moorlands thanks very much 👍 😁
Hope there's x ray kills 😀
I'm out because of the lack of quests. I know many people love the immersion, but I much prefer having a quest log telling me where to go. It was the only negative I had against Elden Ring as well
@Buckeye4Life2015 It’s funny because Breath of the Wild has a quest log yet I found that far more aimless than Elden Ring which had no guidance on that front. It probably just depends on our own preferences.
I’ve been pretty hyped for this until just now finding out there’s no quests so I’ll probably skip it. I’m very much not into games where you just explore for the sake of it
I'm onboard because it's Rebellion and they are fantastic world builders. I do wish they'd do something with Judge Dredd though, I'm sure they could redeem the last game.
I've started a dedicated thread about the game, here:

Yeah this looks very interesting!
@GirlVersusGame indeed a dredd game would be fantastic. A nemesis the warlock game too. How about a halo Jones or a strontium dog. They have so much material that's being squandered.
This, expedition 33, hell is us, lies of p overture and maybe yotei (if it isn't just the exact same game with a different story), are the games with solid release dates I'm even remotely interested in releasing this year.
Hopefully they don't screw up the gameplay and/or protaganist like they did in Atomic Heart.
Looks good so far, loving the blending of many gameplay systrms/elements.
@GirlVersusGame hell yes to Dredd. Really wish that ip was more explored in gaming.
Looking mighty forward to Atomfall!!!
@KundaliniRising333 (#18) Expedition 33 looks awesome indeed
@Buckeye4Life2015 It sounds like you can toggle on a bit more guidance if you want it.
Will be a nice birthday present to myself!
Leaves the impression of a 7 rating game (if it's bug-free)
Looks really interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on it when it releases.
I enjoy Sniper Elite so yes, a definite yes.
Been looking forward to this but curious about the no currency and no quests. Glad I have Game Pass on my PC to try it out before deciding to buy it on PS5.
March is looking stacked with games. This is a definite play for me. I love everything Rebellion puts out, and this looks like a unique twist for them. And the setting is gorgeous.
Looks cool but not sure how I feel about the “no quests” thing. Glad it’s coming to GamePass to at least give it a shot.
It sounds like it's doing some interesting things in the genre for a first go. Rebellion usually has some kinda gimmicky system they base a game around, but this seems to take a KCD approach where systems aren't necessarily laid bare. That's interesting.
@Kraven stealth infiltration is one of my favorite types of games, and Sniper Elite SHOULD be one of my favorite series.
....I'm just so sick of WW2, man, lol. And they need to let me play the missions at night. That's dumb, but it's a strong preference.
I’ll give it a whirl on Game Pass, but it doesn’t sound like it will be something I’ll stick with.
At least there is no risk in trying it out in case I end up not liking it.
Yeah really excited for this mainly because any game set in the UK always gets my attention.
its on Gamepass day 1 so will try it on there
I love the setting and idea but it also always looks janky, i'm hoping this is the fun type of jank.

It's looking very impressive. Not many games based in my neck of the woods so I'm already in.
Loved strange brigade so I'll give this a go, looks good
i think rebellion has done great with the Sniper series. Hopefully they can follow in the shoes of devs who have switched from what they are known for for something completely different (guerilla games) and find success. I'm copping day 1!
@Northern_munkey After reading this I went back and listened to the Strontium Dog audiobook dramas. It's a lot easier to see it as a game when you can hear it acted out with sound effects and music, it could definitely work. The BBC and Big Finish radio dramas they did with 2000AD are brilliant. Simon Pegg plays a really good Johnny Alpha.
@GirlVersusGame I've never listened to them myself but you've put them on my radar so I'll have to now. I think Slaine could be another brilliant game especially the horned god saga.
@Northern_munkey The Horned God is on audiobook too, it's about 3hrs long. I remember the first time I saw Slaine, there was a closet full of reference books and magazines in art class. I found a box full of 2000AD stuff, it really influenced my art style and gave me the respect I have today for graphic novels.
I tend to buy the old audiobook CDs off ebay then rip them/convert them to mp3/transfer them to a USB key and play through through the PS5 while gaming, that way the sound effects etc blend. I got through maybe 25 Alien/Predator ones with Civ7 alone, it would be a lot easier if they added an Audible app to the PS5. I'm listening to the unproduced Alien 3 screenplay at the moment. It's a direct sequel to Aliens. AVP Ultimate Prey is next, it's a chonky 12hrs+ I think Batman Resurrection will be after that, it's a sequel to the original Tim Burton movie and the kind of thing WB's games division should be focused on.
@GirlVersusGame I stopped collecting 2000 ad around prog 600 ish. I gave them all to my uncle when I moved and he still has all of them. I've collected the trade paper backs for all the major story lines from dredd, nemesis, rogue trooper and Slaine. Fond memories.
