It's official: Dynasty Warriors: Origins has been a hit for Koei Tecmo, surpassing 1 million sales in the space of a month, or thereabouts.
The Dynasty Warriors series has never been a commercial juggernaut. Back in the days of the PS2 and PS3, the games used to sell especially well in Japan — but the property rarely caught on in the west beyond its dedicated fanbase.
Origins, then, is a genuine success story. Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force went back to the drawing board for this one, having learned harsh lessons from the dismal Dynasty Warriors 9 in 2018. The latest instalment was met with strong reviews and praise from both existing fans and newcomers.

Indeed, Origins is a big budget production; the company took a risk in carving out a new direction for the franchise, but it looks to be paying off. It'll be very interesting to see what's next for Dynasty Warriors in general.

As I said before, really hope this is the start of a resurgence for Dynasty warriors as a franchise. Congrats on the 1M
A good, fun game, that swaps the overwhelming quantity from previous games, for better quality.
Technically its a big improvement for the series, with absolutely huge numbers of troops possible on screen, whilst still looking pretty good.
Vastly improved fighting mechanics too.
Its not perfect (scripting/VA is not good), but I hope they continue in this new direction - a character creator would be nice to see next time though as you basically play that type of character.
I would definitely urge anyone who likes action games (or anyone who has previously gone off the series) to give it a go.

I did read something, somewhere (might have been here on PSquare) about them looking to see this game 'prove' that the series can make money again, so im always happy to see it doing well, particularly as I much prefer the new direction this game took.
I didn't like it and I hate that I didn't. I used to absolutely love this series but I believe it's deviated too far from what I'm used to.
I loved it I can't wait for the sequel 😍 I've also been a fan since it was a fighter game on ps1 real og here 😅
It’s a good game to get into the series, I enjoyed it
Been on a Musou kick lately and just put 60 hours into Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes in the past 2 weeks. It’s a shame my ps3 Gundam Warriors are in storage as I wanted to try those next.
Not a DW fan although i did enjoyed played some of the spin-off like Gundam Warrior and Samurai Warrior.
But this is definitely good news for KT and Omega Force as well DW fans 🍻
Best DW since the PS2 days! Glad to see it selling well and a promising future.
Absolutely well deserved, the most fun musou game I've played yet!
