Where the heck did this come from?! Reef Entertainment has announced Terminator 2D: No Fate, a modern Mega Drive-style side-scrolling shooter based on the iconic 1991 movie.
The art style and gameplay very much reminds us of the classic RoboCop Versus Terminator game from 1993, which we played on SEGA’s aforementioned system but was also available on Super Nintendo, Master System, Game Gear, and even Game Boy.
Obviously, the presentation here is not limited by 16-bit consoles, and while it’s reminiscent of that classic retro look, it’s doing things that simply would have been impossible on those old devices. Honestly, this looks absolutely incredible.
Even more impressive is that you’ll be able to play as Sarah Connor, John Connor, and T-800. The press release mentions there’ll be multiple endings and game modes, so you’ll have plenty of reason to replay this.
Bitmap Bureau is developing this, the UK-based team behind some top-notch 16-bit inspired titles like Xeno Crisis and Final Vendetta.
The game’s due out on 5th September for both PS5 and PS4 and has shot straight to the top of our most wanted list. What a pleasant surprise!

A Terminator game? An Alien game? A RoboCop game? A Predator game? Count me in! We've been thoroughly treated in recent years and with this game, an Alien Isolation sequel and more on the horizon, I'm one happy/nostalgic 80's camper.
If it's Reef they did a fairly decent job with Resistance at least the PS5 version. A bit janky but quite faithful to the franchise.

@Trapdoor I went in with moderate expectations and thoroughly enjoyed it. The passion and respect for the original material was clearly there. The dlc was great too.

I was about to say the sprite work reminded me of Xeno Crisis - I couldn't remember the developer's name. This looks neat, I like the little nods to the iconic movie moments.
This got the 12-year-old kid inside me excited. The T2 games we got back then were not so good. Glad to see a better attempt being made here.
My only quibble is that the motorcycle chase scene in the drainage channel is going left to right and in the movie it was filmed right to left.
What a time to be alive. The motorcrashing scene in the beginning takes me back tot my childhood. Looks like the first level of the master system terminator game. That was a hard game.
That reminds me of the arcade game. Played it to death on the mega drive. Same with revolution x. Would love these games remastered
The attention to detail is mesmerizing, that police helicopter has the actual identification numbers from the movie.
Regardless of how inconsistent the quality of Terminator products have been over the years, T2 is still a masterpiece through and through. This looks like a great adaptation of T2 as well. Consider myself interested.
T2 is my favourite film, Just like that they've got me. Collectors edition ordered.

This seems like a perfect addition for the Switch. Yet, I like trophies on the PS5 as well.
But for some reason I always feel that I need to get physical pixelart games on cartridge instead of a disc.
I remember having Robocop Vs Terminator all those years ago as a kid and it was REALLY not kid friendly lol. I believe it predated the need for ages on the box but I'm not fully sure on that, either way to way the enemies died was awesomely gory. Hope this game isn't quite as rock hard though.
@ryan_nil tbf if we're talking classic game design it makes sense to run the level left to right. I am laughing though, such a great quibble. Would've been great attention to detail mind you.

@__Seraph Oh yeah, I figured that's why they went left to right, but everything else seems pretty true to the film, so it was a bit surprising they decided to go that direction (pun definitely intended).
Wow..I had the terminator game on my mega drive back in the dark ages and it took less than an hour to finish. It was a great game but Jesus it was so short. This looks brilliant but I hope it's got a lot more life in it.
The pixel art has so much character and is very faithful to the movie. This is a game I would have dreamed about in the 90's.

Having played a mixed bag of Arnie games BITD on C64/Amiga including T2 Judgement Day,this is shining like an ice cream van to my inner child! Have a few Bitmap Bureau games already & with Art Direction being handled by the very capable Henk Nieborg who's work's date back to the classical 16bit era will be keeping a keen eye on this!😎👍🦾
