Assassin's Creed Shadows Hideout Frame Rate

Have you noticed that the frame rate takes a nosedive when you're visiting the hideout in Assassin's Creed Shadows? Well don't worry, because Ubisoft's apparently on the case.

Even if you're playing on the game's dedicated performance mode, which grants a largely smooth 60 frames-per-second, the frame rate appears to get cut in half as soon as you're in the Naoe and Yasuke's central hub — a village-like area that serves as a base of operations.

At first, we thought this was some kind of necessary limitation. After all, the hideout is fully customisable; you can construct buildings, place all kinds of decorations, and even keep pets. The space can become absolutely packed with stuff, and so the capped frame rate made some degree of sense — even if it the sudden dip in performance was jarring.

But as it turns out, said dip is unintended — and Ubisoft's wording on the subject suggests that it's actually a bug.

It's included on an official 'List of Known Issues', posted by the development team on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. The entry reads: "FPS can be capped at 30 within the Hideout when playing with the Performance Profile, PS5 and Xbox platforms."

Fortunately, the bug's categorised under issues that are set to be fixed via the game's first big Title Update — although there's no release date attached to this planned patch just yet.

So there you have it: the hideout's relatively low frame rate is a bug and it should be getting fixed in the near future.
