Lies of P PS5 PS4 PlayStation

Having taken so much inspiration from developer FromSoftware's hugely influential run of modern action games, from Dark Souls to Elden Ring, it should come as no surprise that Lies of P director Choi Ji-won dove into Nightreign's recent network test and loved it. This begs the question: could we see co-op make its way to Neowiz's dark, fairy-tale-inspired world?

The short answer is no, not in Lies of P, which, with the addition of the upcoming expansion Overture, will be seen as "complete". But for future projects, potentially even in a Lies of P sequel, the sky really is the limit. Eurogamer put the question of co-op to the director, who said:

"I've tried [Nightreign], and it was very refreshing and new. That obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers; they always push their boundaries, imagination, and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."

From the outset, Lies of P was envisioned as "a high quality, premium, single-player action game", and Neowiz certainly delivered that. Still, the developer wants to go beyond simply putting a fresh, unique spin on what FromSoftware has already done, as Ji-won explains:

"We are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future... Instead of trying to predict how the Soulslike genre is going to be in the future, what we are focusing on is really finding our own colour and the points of attraction. In the future, instead of pegging us into a certain genre, we want the fans to look at us and know what sort of unique components we deliver that they look forward to."

Would you like to see co-op in future Neowiz titles? Are you glad to hear the director say he wants to differentiate his games further from FromSoftware's own in future? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
