Just days ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds' huge Title Update 1, Capcom has confirmed its intent to improve pretty much everything about the action RPG going forward.
In a surprisingly open letter from director Yuya Tokuda, we get some insight into the development team's current line of thinking — and although many of the planned improvements are rather broad, it's nice to see that Capcom's actually aware of what needs to be done.
So, for starters, there's a section on boosting the game's performance across all platforms. Title Update 1 will apparently feature some degree of improvement, but this is an area that'll continue to be addressed in future patches.
Next, quality of life enhancements are incoming. This section specifically refers to "UI/UX improvements", which will hopefully help de-clutter Wilds' often convoluted menu system.
The post continues: "The team also will continue to make additional adjustments and improvements to further enhance the overall feel of the game to curate an even smoother gameplay experience, including but not limited to the ease of restocking items, checking skill information, participating in multiplayer quests and using the Seikret; and camera behaviour during hunts."
And then there are balance adjustments to consider. If your favourite weapon's in a really good place right now, this confirmation might make you wince — but Tokuda attempts to provide some perspective: "Some unintentionally overpowered things will be adjusted downward, but we will also be adjusting other parts upward, making for a generally balanced update."
He goes on to confirm that The Corrupted Mantle — the game's mantle of choice for any player looking to maximise their damage output — will be hit with nerfs in the aforementioned Title Update 1.
Oh, and hammers are getting buffed, but we won't be seeing those adjustments until the promised May or summer updates. The general feeling around weapon types is that hammers haven't quite benefitted from Wilds' combat changes like other armaments — and so buffs are being looked into.
Finally, we've got the addition of layered weapons to look forward to, letting you change the appearance of your beast-slaying implement without altering its stats. Layered weapons are coming "in a future update" — but it's better than nothing!
What do you make of all these improvements? And are you looking forward to Title Update 1? Remember to sharpen your weapon in the comments section below.

I would just like to be able to play coop with friends, seamlessly, regardless of quest, mode, or respective player progress... 🥲
I'm surprised by the first free update being so substantial. Can't wait for it already.
I really wish they’d do a multiplayer overhaul but that would probably take much, much longer to implement. It’s my only complaint. Friends I previously played Rise and World with have so far opted out because of how convoluted the whole thing is. It’s crazy to think it’s sold 1/3 of World’s lifetime sales already. What could it be selling if it had normal, accessible multiplayer?
Layered Weapons are a godsend.
UX improvements on the way is great to hear! Hopefully I'll finally be able to disable the radial menu so I can properly control that camera while rummaging through items.
Oh man... those are the announcements I wanted to hear. Good that they are listening.
I'm obsessed with this game at the minute.
These are great to hear but my favourite is easier restocking of items. Having to go into my tent to do it each time is a real pain.
I appreciate Capcom's transparency with everything happening in Monster Hunter Wilds, even sales numbers. I support developers like that. Continued success is deserved.
@Jey887 It is really weird when in World there were just item boxes around the camps that let you access all your items and equipment whenever you wanted. They weirdly overcomplicated things for some reason in Wilds
Still haven’t even played my copy but good to know I’ll be getting a polished experience
Give sns an uppercut attack
Please and thank you lol
@PloverNutter What is even weirder is that it has been that way for several games going back to 3 Ultimate (that's when i started). Item Box at the exit of each area. Very strange decision.
The Monster Hunter website is impressive, it's well made but also contains so much info about the roadmap, etc...
At least the devs are listening to players.
Layered weapons are a MUST. I really don't like the look of most Artisan weapons... Personally, I wish they'd 'buff' more of the R8 weapons to have more lv3 slots. The Artisan ones WAY outshine the rest of the R8 in too many cases because of these slots.
Awesome to hear about rebalancing. I'm hoping to be nerfed big time (Switch Axe)
@VaultGuy415 I'm hoping not to be nerfed big time (also Switch Axe)
Nice, they're also buffing tempered apex monsters in May which is finally what I was waiting for.
@VaultGuy415 Switch Axe is overpowered but also super hard to master. So I'm not so angry at people who spent the time to learn this weapon. It's like the bow, it requires some practice to master it, especially in 1vs1 against a big monster.
@B0udoir @Marquez C'mon guys! These monsters they designed are cool. There's no need for them to hit like a wet paper bag against unupgraded armor, nor do we need to be able to dump 800+ damage on them w/ a single FRS.
I'm not even asking for the game to be hard, I just want enough challenge so we're motivated to gear up and keep playing.
