Monster Hunter Wilds Improvements

Just days ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds' huge Title Update 1, Capcom has confirmed its intent to improve pretty much everything about the action RPG going forward.

In a surprisingly open letter from director Yuya Tokuda, we get some insight into the development team's current line of thinking — and although many of the planned improvements are rather broad, it's nice to see that Capcom's actually aware of what needs to be done.

So, for starters, there's a section on boosting the game's performance across all platforms. Title Update 1 will apparently feature some degree of improvement, but this is an area that'll continue to be addressed in future patches.

Next, quality of life enhancements are incoming. This section specifically refers to "UI/UX improvements", which will hopefully help de-clutter Wilds' often convoluted menu system.

The post continues: "The team also will continue to make additional adjustments and improvements to further enhance the overall feel of the game to curate an even smoother gameplay experience, including but not limited to the ease of restocking items, checking skill information, participating in multiplayer quests and using the Seikret; and camera behaviour during hunts."

And then there are balance adjustments to consider. If your favourite weapon's in a really good place right now, this confirmation might make you wince — but Tokuda attempts to provide some perspective: "Some unintentionally overpowered things will be adjusted downward, but we will also be adjusting other parts upward, making for a generally balanced update."

He goes on to confirm that The Corrupted Mantle — the game's mantle of choice for any player looking to maximise their damage output — will be hit with nerfs in the aforementioned Title Update 1.

Oh, and hammers are getting buffed, but we won't be seeing those adjustments until the promised May or summer updates. The general feeling around weapon types is that hammers haven't quite benefitted from Wilds' combat changes like other armaments — and so buffs are being looked into.

Finally, we've got the addition of layered weapons to look forward to, letting you change the appearance of your beast-slaying implement without altering its stats. Layered weapons are coming "in a future update" — but it's better than nothing!

What do you make of all these improvements? And are you looking forward to Title Update 1? Remember to sharpen your weapon in the comments section below.
