HBO's bet on its TV adaptation of The Last of Us is truly starting to pay off now, as the new trailer for the show's second season is breaking company records. In the three days since its release, the official trailer has gained 158 million views across all platforms, making it the most-watched HBO and Max trailer ever for that time period. According to The Wrap, the impressive statistic marks a 160 per cent increase in views over any other The Last of Us-related trailers and clips.
The second series begins on 13th April 2025 and will comprise of seven episodes, all viewable on HBO and Sky. It's set to adapt at least some of the events from The Last of Us: Part II, though how fair into the PS5, PS4 game the show will get is unclear. More seasons are already planned, and we already know season two won't cover all of Ellie and Abby's story up to now.

And Neil says there won't be a part 3, ok buddy.
It's definitely got that second season budget now. Looks great 🙌🏻 I don't think Joel will get the golf club though. TV Abby can't take him.
Just bring on the third game I say, but no chance of that until PS6.
So hoping the Heretic is up there with uncharted and the last of us.
@Balie3000 She will outsmart him into killing himself. TV Abby prefers the force not lightsabers.
Will they bother with a time jump? Because it's not really gonna land with Bella looking exactly the same
@Balie3000 I could take Joel as a untrained 42 year old. Give me a shotgun and a golf club.
But if you think Abby cant do it, good for you living in clouds.
Are people forgetting Abby shoots Joel in the leg with a shotgun?so it doesn't even matter if she can "take him" or not.
@Anthony_Daniels Aren't they already older than the character though? I feel like all it will take is a giant black screen with "5 years later" and people will get on board. The trailer shows the museum scene, so it looks like they're incorporating some of the flashbacks, too.
Hasn't it already been confirmed that they have changed 'that bit'? I thought i read recently that it wasn't going to play out the same way and Joel would be in more of the show?
Maybe I dreamed that....
It would be weird though, because it is the catalyst for the whole story.
@Medic_alert I wouldn't be surprised if they made that either the penultimate episode of the season or maybe the finale, but I feel like it's a sure bet that it will be there.
This season will boost Part 2 sales like a lot.
I hope everyone has played the game here that's interested in the show. Lots of spoilers in the comments.
I still believe Part III is in development and will be a cross-gen release for PS5 and PS6. Druckmann’s comment seems more like, "Don't get your hopes up—just look at The Last of Us Online." Nothing is certain these days, even if something is in development. That's how I interpret it. But as for a small chance that Part III isn’t happening? I think it’s almost a certainty that it is.
@Oram77 people are selective with memory and narrative when it comes to this game.
@Oram77 well if people can forget common decency about spoilers then I guess others can forget small details
@ATaco It's on the backlog, so is the show. I quick scrolled the comments and saw nothing too earth shattering. I'll binge watch them in one go when they finish production on the whole series. TLOU2 was spoiled for me at launch, spoilers were everywhere, that's when it went on the backlog.
@BossBE
Last of Us Online was plagued by bad management and poor planning with no clear direction as to what it wanted to be. That's what killed it. A traditional single player Last of Us 3 on the other hand would have Sony's full unfettered backing with how popular this franchise is especially after the TV show has opened a massive new potential audience. Therefore if Druckman says "don't get your hopes up" that must mean they have no plans at this time.
@ATaco I think it's a pretty safe bet that if you're on PushSquare that you know of the scene in TLOU2 that everyone is waiting for regardless of whether you have played the game or not.
@PegasusActual93 The potential issue with TLOU3 is the same problem that the MCU fans had who decided to go and check out the Civil War and Infinity War comics: the game is not the show. The characters share the same names but they are not the same characters, the plots share the same beats but they are not the same plots.
Meh. I didn't get around to watching the first one yet. And haven't finished the games, so I can't watch it until I get around to that. It's not that I'm not interested, and the few hours I played on PS3 I enjoyed, I just haven't been able to get back into it, either on PS3, PS4 or PS5. Heck, my copy of TLOU2 is still in it's cellophane.
It was hard seeing what happened to that character in a videogame if a live action scene of that incident happens it would be hard for to watch
