There's something going on with Cyberpunk 2077, but it's near impossible to determine what that something is at the time of writing.
The game's official social media accounts seem to be in a teasing mood — and that's where all of this speculation is coming from. Over on X (formerly known as Twitter), the team's been posting, er, birthday calendars for a little while now.
These calendars show the birthdays of key characters from Cyberpunk 2077, with the account asking fans to help celebrate said dates with artwork and the like. It all seems innocent enough at a glance, but then there have been multiple times where these calendars have included "encrypted data" slots, which are supposedly hinting at something more.
Here's a post that specifically points to these locked slots, complete with that suspicious eyes emoji:
But what the hell does it mean? Again, no one seems to know. There are a lot of theories going around, but none of them have any kind of convincing foothold. If this really is part of one big tease, then it's a damn cryptic one.
Oh and these tweets have continued beyond the announcement of Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 — so we can rule that out.
Could a new Cyberpunk 2077 update be incoming? We suppose that's one of the most logical conclusions, given that CD Projekt Red actually enlisted the help of an outside developer — Virtuos — to create Patch 2.2 back in December of last year. It was then suggested that Virtuos could end up delivering additional support — but we still don't know what character birthdays have to do with anything.
There's also the new Cyberpunk anime to consider, which was announced last year in collaboration with Netflix. Nothing's been revealed on that front for ages.
And finally, it's at least worth mentioning that it'll be Cyberpunk 2077's fifth anniversary later this year (time really does fly). But if there are celebratory plans for the occasion, it's hard to imagine that the teases are starting now, when the anniversary itself isn't until December.
We're just going to have to keep an eye on this one. We'll update this story if we learn anything more, but until then, feel free to celebrate Kerry Eurodyne's birthday in the comments section below.

I mean, it will be the sequel right? Weren't they talking about the how the NPC/crowd is going to be extremely immersive a couple of weeks a go?
Still to actually play this… but what I’d give for a third-person mode patch!
@graymamba That's on the top of my Cyberpunk wishlist as well, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell that that will happen, as I understand it
@graymamba I only played this year! and it's an easy 10/10 for me, Personally don't think it needs a 3rd person mode.
The only announcement they could make that I would care about would be PS5 Pro support, but they’ve already said that isn’t coming. Another one would be PS VR2 support but come on, that will never happen LOL
Probably something like a new outfit which will launch with the Switch version but arrive on other platforms too.
@FuriousMachine yeah I know it’s a forlorn hope but I can but dream I guess. At least they (Capcom) did it for Resident Evil: Village albeit behind a dlc paywall.
@Oram77 I’m sure that it doesn’t… I just tend to enjoy the third person view point in games so much more. I like loads of games with the first-person view but I always have to actively push myself to actually play them.
@graymamba Totally agree I tried playing it awhile back but couldn't finish it due to the first person.
It's probably a board game that they're teasing.
It's a strange one for sure. Seeing as it is a list of characters it would seem safe to assume the hidden slots are also characters. If it were for anime characters surely the ones from the first one would already be on there? Adding new characters to the game like they did with Phantom Liberty seems like too large a task for an outside studio to implement.
Very odd. Having only recently got around to a second playthrough to do the PL expansion I'm certainly curious to know more.
@graymamba I'd be another who would love that. I get why they went with 1st and I still enjoyed it but I much prefer 3rd. I would almost always ride bikes for a chance to see my V.
@pyrrhic_victory Fun fact, the game is based off a board game.
@Oram77 Given how bad the original release was its great how they turned it around to a 10/10 experience. I usually prefer third person but agree this doesn't need it as its primarily a shooter for combat and for travel (bikes ftw) you can jump to 3rd person anyway.
One of a select few games where I never used fast travel as traversing the city is very solid all round.
Edit: Heresy!! Calling an old school Pen n' Paper RP a board game
Its one of the reasons I loved the game as it reminded so much of playing the orginal system from the 80's before my runner tragically died at the end of a hiest session.
@Casco you can play it on the switch 2 lol
@Ilyn Yeah the driving is god awful.... unless on a bike as you said lol, I also think the OST is one of the best EVER.
The only thing that will make me return to this game is NG+. This game is PERFECT for NG+. Nothing else, whatsoever, interests me now I’ve completed it.
@8bitOG or MacOS , don’t forget about that ! Seems they support every platform under the sun except PS5 Pro!
Probably some extra content for the Switch 2 version?
@Casco possibly somewhat retaliatory for playstation removing it from the online store. Pure speculation, of course
@8bitOG Exactly my thoughts.
@graymamba Right here with you, I've put it aside since launch. Each time it moves up the list they announce something else and I hold back again to wait for an even more complete experience.
Maybe it's an announcement that the price of the Switch 2 version will hit that magical 3 digit number? £100? Lol (not sure why I'm laughing....ffs)
@Oram77
It doesn't need it, no, but it would still be cool.
@graymamba
I’ve yet to play this as well, I’m waiting for the psvr2 patch.
Will this be the news I’m waiting for?
(Highly unlikely).
@CaptD wow, that would be a psvr2 seller that. It would probably be the kick up the bum I’d need to finally pick one up.
Ps5 pro update please
@Oram77 Exactly my point 😂
@Casco They said "We currently have no plans for PS5 Pro patch", which doesn't necessarily mean they will never do it. Their plans might change in the future after all. And yes, PSVR2 support would be amazing, but much less likely than a potential Pro enhancement patch.
I am ready $50 2nd DLC
I dont want a sequel for now because it will take long, a DLC can be this year
I'd love if there's a new anime. Edgerunners was a great watch.
Edgerunners was bearable... not triggers best work. A studio more suited to cyberpunk like IG would be interesting to see as they're more serious and gritty. GITS and Psycho Pass being prime examples of what a Cyberpunk world would be like when viewed from the corpo perspective.
I'd rather they move away from cyberpunk for now as I doubt they can do any better than the final (minimal bugs)release at this time. Maybe another decade or two and they will have new material as CDPR is a slow burner studio. It will most likely be (as stated by quite a few Push denizens) some skins and additional weapons which I could care less about.
I'm hoping it's the new anime at the very least.
Maybe not something that anyone in this community care that much about but the game is confirmed for a macOS port, but currently without a launch date. Expected before summer of 2025 though.
Mark it for 2077. The projected completion date for the game didn’t you know
Are they actually gonna finish the game? Will Jackie be more than a minute long cutscene?
