There’s a meme making out like Netflix cancels everything after its first season, but Devil May Cry has performed well enough to get another run.
The Netflix animated series, led by Adi Shankar – who, incidentally, appeared at a WWE event recently dressed as Dante – attracted an estimated 5.3 million views in one week. It’s now getting a second season.
While the video streaming service hasn’t shared a whole lot of information, it simply said “let’s dance” on social media, and attached a graphic confirming season two.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, another video game-inspired animated series, was also renewed for a second series, suggesting Netflix has struck gold with these adaptations.
Obviously, the Castlevania series was an early success story for the service, and has received four seasons to date. Shankar was also involved in the creation of that.
Have you enjoyed the Devil May Cry animated series so far? Will you be tuning in for the second season?

Hmmm...was a 6.5 hopefully s2 will be better. CG Devil trigger was pants.
This has got to be some kind of parody of an article. Series was absolutely dreadful and completely missed the tone of the original game.
Great news. Looking forward to watching it. The internet can keep crying about it.
Can we have S2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners too please?
Twitter has cried so much about this show that's it's just put me off watching it. Even though I really want to
I gave it a go but couldn't go on after the first episode. This version of Dante is just far too annoying; as other people have said (and I agree) he feels more like Deadpool. Too much wisecracking without the touching moments from the games.
Maybe I need to watch more but it doesn't sit well with me. It's like the writers didn't properly understand the characters. The animation is pretty good though.
I love how sone people act like the devil may cry series is known for its impeccible writing. The story was never deep. Dmc has fantastic characters and bombastic action. And so does the show. I hope they dont do cgi stuff though, that looked horrible and stood out immediately
I had an awesome time with the show personally. Sure some of the song choices were a bit odd and some of the CG was pretty ugly but I thought they did a great job with the characters and writing. The actual action sequences were really great too.
I'm 100% tuning in for season 2!
I haven't seen this show yet... Some of your comments here have made me want to check it out now, so thanks!
@JB_Whiting Lady's characterization is another issue. And the vivziepop levels of swearing that felt like it was written by a 12 year old.
Lady is just unbearable.
Ride the wave of hype, Devil May Cry 6 please Capcom!!! 😄
@Bionic-Spencer I'm still waiting on that DinoCrisis remake they promised us from that poll last year...
But I enjoyed my time watching season 1 and it definitely needs a season 2.
The action scenes are fun to watch and that all matters to me. Oh and they also used some music from the game too which is cool.
Just a reminder that Velma got a second season.
VELMA.
Suddenly DMC and Tomb Raider getting second seasons doesn’t seem all that good an indicator of quality…
@dskatter did you watch velma?
VELMA?
@SuperSilverback if you allow crying on Twitter to determine what you will or won't play/watch you're gonna have a tough time enjoying anything. Why don't you just watch it and judge for yourself?
@dskatter From my understanding Velma's episodes were already made as a whole before it aired and then split into two seasons, that's why you won't see season 3 because this season's episodes were not made before it aired
@SamMR Regardless of the reasons, my point stands.
Loved it. Great stuff. Would like to see more death and destruction.
I watch the review of this show and yeah, it seems either the author of this show didn't play even 1 minute of the game, or actually hate the game and want to make another show.
It's so tiring to see another "actually the demon is good and the human is bad", make me wonder why the author seems to sympathize with the demons. I bet he hates frieren anime lol.
@wiiware yeah, dude. That must be it.
@AhmadSumadi I will watch it, it's just everyone has to super negative on everything these days and it's just a drain pal. I'm not saying don't have an opinion, but people really take it above and beyond, good or bad
@SuperSilverback I totally get it! To hear people speak on things nowadays, everything is terrible. And it's cool if they have valid reasons to think this. But that's not always the case. And yes, it's very draining!
I loved it and I’m glad it’s getting a second season. 😎
I’m surprised, because I thought it was genuinely awful.
It was no castlevania but it definitely had it's moments. Agree with the people pointing out the hideous CG they used at times, was jarring and seemed totally unnecessary.
Fun show for a silly game series. There's nothin "sacred" about the original source material, so I don't get the offense. The writing is about just as dorky as the original, presenting the youngest version of Dante we've seen thus far. The animation quality varies immensely.
Personally find it better than tomb raider and better than the middle seasons of the original castlevania show... seriously, the smug world weary monologues were so insufferable across far too many episodes. Nocturne keeps a better balance in comparison.
It was okay, nowhere near Castlevania
@Fluberuper It was probably greenlit to have 2 seasons way before they even considered a second season.
Yeah I'm glad I didn't watch this DMC animation because I don't want to see my favorite characters be ruined. That and I don't want to see unnecessary politics in a series that's supposed to be Dante kicking demon ass. I
I had low expectations for the show and I was right feeling that way going in, but it have its moments here and there, said moments were Dante doing his usual fight sthick.
Tv audience and video game audience be in different worlds 😂😂😂😂
This show was truly awful. Basically insulting to the series. The writers just wanted to make their own show and call it DMC. I doubt they even played the games to get a feel for the series.
@Lavishturtle "Basically insulting to the series"
"I doubt they even played the games to get a feel for the series"
I finished watching all 8 eps and i never get the impression the TV show is an insult to the series nor 'the people who created this must be never played the games'.
Heck. They even included Enzo Ferino, Dante's informant. The character never appear in any DMC game. But he was taken from DMC novels and manga which are canon for DMC universe.
Enzo in this TV show also looks and acts similar to his description in the novels and manga. So the producer and writer clearly did their homework to get the feel of the series when they even included character from DMC novels & manga
