Update []: While the official announcement took place on a smaller scale with a simple YouTube video, PlayStation itself is now marketing the Marathon livestream set for this weekend. It teases the gameplay reveal showcase for Saturday, 12th April at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST.
It's not a State of Play, but you could probably consider this the closest to one:
Original Story: By way of an ARG ran over the weekend, Bungie has announced it is lifting the lid on its next multiplayer title, Marathon, later this week on Saturday, 12th April 2025. The community has come together to uncover a "save the date" trailer that features a brief but colourful look at the world of Marathon. Catch it above.
The teasing began on Friday, when all of PlayStation's social media channels were updated to sport neon green imagery relating to the game. Since then, emergency reports from the Marathon account were published while fans could solve an ARG.
While we weren't invited, it seems some media outlets have seen and played the game during preview events, with a few attendees teasing things with their ID badges.
From the Destiny 2 developer Bungie, the team's next game Marathon will also come to PC and Xbox Series X|S. Given members of the media have now played the game, it's possible it could release later this year. The Marathon gameplay reveal showcase, as it's being advertised, will take place on Saturday, 12th April at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST.

I just don't know if I want to support Bungie after what happened with Destiny 2, but we'll see what happens when it's revealed.
I am excited and nervous. Cause this is a make or break for Bungie. If they get it right well they are Bungie as normal. This game bombs and losses tons of money and it’s likely Sony will break them up into other parts of their studios as was said might happen. Here’s hoping it really good.
I'm hoping that Bungie stick to a narrower scope with Marathon. Destiny being an MMO meant it had to do so many things like story, PVP, raids etc. Whereas if they just focus on making a high quality extraction shooter then it has a decent chance of being successful.
I love the aesthetics for this so much I know I need to try it. I also really think the console space could use a solid extraction shooter. I REALLY hope they nail this and that they've learned from Destiny.
I’m digging the art style so far. Pretty excited to see some gameplay!
Using the exact same font from Concord on banners is certainly a choice lmao
looks like apex legends if it had gotten a graphics update. i hope this games fun, because id rather an ugly fun game over a pretty boring one
In the final scene, the "dead" operator pulls their gun back towards them at 0:39 in the teaser. Are they playing-dead or what?!
There is probably a lot the tension at Sony and Bungie ahead of Marathon‘s public perception. I hope for success, and that the other PS Studios are then released from the obligation to make live service games.
The art direction is very cool. I hope Bungie can land this!
I seriously worry that this game will be detrimental to Bungie as a company. I'm sure that unlike other Sony live service games this was 100% Bungie's idea and passion, but the toxic approach by Sony has probably poisoned the well. I'll revisit this comment if the game comes out, is well reviewed and reinvigorates the company, but outside of random comments on an enthusiast news page (this one!) I just don't see the mass appeal
I like the art direction..its very cool and very reminiscent of the work designers Republic used to do circa wipeout 2 era. Here's hoping its a hit for bungie.
The one thing I am not worried about is the game play as Bungie are unmatched in the FPS space, in my opinion of course.
@HonestHick
Jesus Christ, no it isn't. Bungie had to cut staff because they had over 1000 employees because they were working on like 5 different projects and had a group that was hired for tv/movie production. There was far too much going on and focus had to be narrowed.
Destiny 2 is still wildly profitable, even with numbers diminishing. It was one the 12 top grossing games on Steam last year(like it is every year). That means it still grossed more than some brand new big games.
Bungie will be fine. Not making your financial targets means only making x profit instead of 2x profit. It doesn't mean they're suddenly losing money and in massive danger.
If Sony fully takes over the studio it's hardly the end of the world. Sony fully controls Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Santa Monica etc. They don't have any trouble making good games.
Looking forward to this !
The artistic direction looks great and I have to say that I am intrigued by the small snippets of the worlds which have been revealed so far. Anyway I wish Bungie success!
Though, I am not a big multiplayer guy, so it is very unlikely that I will give this a shot. Maybe if they there is a VR mode, but there won't.
@Oram77 That's Titanfall 2's gunplay for me.
@MrPeanutbutterz Same people who does Apex Legends right? Becaue is so they are a very very close second.
I'm very anxious for Bungie, but Destiny holds a special place in my heart, and I'm hoping it can do it again with Marathon! Can't wait to see some more of the game!
I'm yet to find a Bungie game that I enjoy.
Hopefully this isn't gonna be another Concord or Anthem.
Im unlikely to ever play an extraction shooter, but I hope Bungie gets it right with this, we dont need more v expensive flop games to add to the pile
Marketing for this has such a hard job of shifting people's already negative perception of a live service shooter. Especially with Concord. Hopefully they know what NOT to do and how to deliver.
@Oram77 Same people, yep. In fact, Apex is set within the Titanfall universe. That said, Apex feels like a water-down version of Titanfall.
I'd put Bungie second personally, but everyone's eating good.
This seems too niche to appeal to a large audience. And extraction shooters aren’t my thing. But I love Bungie, so we’ll see what they’ve got.
@ChrisDeku that is the make or Break comment. Either Bungie starts making money and stays in the shape they want the studio or Sony steps in. This is public knowledge. The story has already been told. Now it’s time for Bungie to cook and make great content. We all know what Bungie prefers, they said it themselves. I didn’t say it they did. I was just saying here we go. Let’s see what ya got Bungie.
I'm mildly interested. Has to be good though!
Bungie is an amazing dev. They've sure as he'll had their problems and made some mistakes. But they always have made really engaging and fun titles gameplay wise. I hope this game has a narrow focus. The art direction is gorgeous. We know they know how to make a weapon feel great. They know they have to nail this.
It's not for me but I appreciate the art and look they're going for. I'm curious about that cat too.
Not my type of game, so i'll probably wont be watching. Hope its good for the people who enjoy this kind of game.
Kinda looks to stylized to be appreciated by the masses but I hope I am wrong for Bungie. There’s a good chunk of people playing Helldivers without getting the irony, like straight up enjoying the fascism 🫣
Lot riding on this being good.
Can't wait for everyone's comments on
how I should be feeling aboutMarathon after the showcase🤞Interesting this is happening on a Saturday. Assuming this is to target kids in which case they’ve done good from a marketing perspective already.
Sadly extraction shooters are as boring as battle royale to me. Pass.
Like the art style and feels pretty unique.
The art direction is really good. The fact that it's an extraction shooter doesn't appeal to me at all though. Maybe seeing some gameplay will change my mind but they got an uphill battle getting me interested.
I wish them well though.
I hope this tanks, just for ***** and giggles 😀
That being a multiplayer-only shooter, and the fact that the best people left Bungie long time ago, I don't think that will be worth attention. Even considering that Sony fired worst people from Bungie not so long ago.
Not sure what it's about yet but I take it it'll be an FPS of sorts right? I mean if that's Bungie's wheelhouse.
@JB_Whiting I believe it's a first person extraction shooter. So you go into a game gather loot and resources and then extract before other teams kill you and take your stuff. Or you and you're team can go on the hunt and go after other teams.
Similar to The Divisions dark zones.
Have a feeling this may be another Concord-style failure.
@Deljo I actually hope one of these live service games gets so big it shuts everyone up 😂
This might do better than Concord but only slightly so
@DualWielding lol
stop making this bs man really!!!
Destiny has been incredibly successful for them. And of all the devs doing live service surely these guys are the best. I’m not really a fan of the live service thing but I can give them a pass as its there bread and butter. Hope it goes well for them. Love love love the art style though
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy They screwed up themselves you cant stay a walking wallet with failing leadership at Bungie.
