Re: MGS Master Collection Update 2.0 Boosts Resolution on PS5, PS4

Hell yeah! Finally the official versions are catching up to the quality you could get with an unofficial emulator. Playing MGS: The Twin Snakes on my Mac through a GC emulator really opened my eyes to how good upscaled old games could look. This is the perfect excuse to finish my MGS2 save and start MGS3 over the holidays!

PS anyone looking for a better looking version of MGS1 should definitely try The Twin Snakes with cranked up graphics settings. As my knowledge of game history pretty much ended at the PS1 when I went off to college, I had never heard of this game before, and really enjoyed it. For those who don't know, it's the story of MGS1 ported onto the 3D engine of MGS2, released on the Gamecube a few years after MGS1. So it gives you some of the added abilities of MGS2, like shooting in first person mode and hanging from ledges. Also the cutscenes are redone with even more over the top action like MGS2 or "The Matrix" movies, with lots of cartwheels and crazy stunts. I found it very entertaining and fun to play, as a big fan of MGS1 on PS1 back in the day. Anyway playing MGS:TTS on a modern emulator lets you crank up the graphics resolution quite a bit, and l thought it looked really great for an old game. Check it out, for a laugh if nothing else!

Re: Site News: Where's Our Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Review?

Since many of us will be waiting for the price to come down anyway, I'd love to see a little bit longer term review after a week or two of playing it to the end. The short review posted on The Verge today "Star Wars Outlaws is the solution to Ubisoft’s open-world woes" makes it sound like something I'd enjoy. Open world Star Wars yes!

Re: Reaction: The Problem with PlayStation Right Now

Making more small-medium scale games and growing the install base are linked. It’s why Apple’s iOS platform makes more money on games than Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. As much fun as 100 hour AAA games can be, I don’t have unlimited free time and attention to play them. Maybe I could get through 2 or 3 per year at most, with everything else going on in life. But shorter games can be a lot of fun and it can be enjoyable to finish them without dedicating months of my life to it!

Re: Dive into Free PS5, PS4 Racer Disney Speedstorm's Little Mermaid Season Soon

I am hopelessly addicted to this game. I’ve spent about $5 and about 100 hours on it since it launched to the public. the $ prices for in-game upgrades are absurd, so there’s a good bit of multiplayer grinding required to level up the characters if you don’t want to pay. but this Frozen season has been a lot more generous with unpaid upgrades than the first Aladdin season was.

as someone who was young when the Little Mermaid first came out, looking forward to playing with those characters! and looking forward to new tracks, the limited number of tracks to date has to be the biggest shortcoming of this game. the grind wouldn’t feel so monotonous if there were more different tracks to race on.

this game is definitely worth a look for fans of kart racers! maybe the best kart racer ever on PlayStation?

Re: Metal Gear Solid Remake Hopes Kept Alive by New Report

Most of you probably know this, but I only just learned last week that Metal Gear Solid 1 already had a remake, back in 2004 on the Gamecube, called MGS: The Twin Snakes. I played it all weekend on my Mac using the Dolphin emulator (works great) and a DS4 and it's really fun!

They added some features from MGS2 like the ability to shoot in first-person view, and wow being able to take out cameras and guards that way feels like an amazing New Game+ superpower.

Kojima was loosely involved but the cutscenes were redone under the direction of Japanese action movie director Ryuhei Kitamura (with Kojima's blessing supposedly). It got some criticism for the new cutscenes being ridiculously over the top, as well as the first-person shooting option making it easier to get through the game. But I find the Kitamura cutscenes hilarious and entertaining, and even with new abilities the game is still pretty hard! They made the guards' senses more acute and their response to detection a lot more aggressive.

And with a decent gaming computer you can crank up the resolution in Dolphin to more like PS3-era quality. There's even fan made 4K texture packs to increase the quality further. Definitely worth playing if you haven't yet!

Re: PS5 Remote Play Handheld Allegedly Has Just Four Hours of Battery Life

well that's... not great. my iPad Mini would probably get close to double that I imagine? it's just streaming video and sending button pushes.

but maybe it means Sony is keeping the specs low to keep the price down? that would be a good thing! and hopefully you could play with it plugged into the wall / a battery pack if you really wanted.

Re: Out Today: The Witcher 3's Free PS5 Upgrade Is Available Now

32bitter

glad I picked up the Complete edition for $9.99 last year! I don't think anyone can complain about the price since the PS5 version has been on CDPR's public roadmap for years, and the PS4 game has been on sale quite often. anyone reading this site had a chance to get the "early bird" pricing on the PS5 upgrade. makes sense for them to price it differently now as a new PS5 game, they gotta pay their developers. how else are they going to fix all these bugs?

Re: This How Much Better The Witcher 3 Looks on PS5 Compared to PS4

32bitter

took a while but the PS5 version finally downloaded!

to transfer a saved game from the PS4 version (I have the version from PS Plus) I had to sign into “My Rewards” with a GOG.com account in the PS4 game. then upload a cloud save to GOG, separate from PSN. (may have to update PS4 game to 4.00 to do this.)

then also log in to My Rewards in the PS5 game, and you’ll be able to continue the PS4 cloud save from GOG.

wow the new camera angle and performance mode are quite a change! loading times are sooo much faster than the PS4 game is on PS5. the ray tracing mode is noticeably less smooth than the PS4 game, doubt anyone will want to play with it on. but it did give a nice touch to a visit to the Passiflora. 4K Geralt has chest hair?
