Re: PlayStation Studios Poised to Publish First Ever Xbox One Game

@Flaming_Kaiser You clearly don't understand how licensing works. If you don't own the IP, in this case MLB teams and players likeness, you don't call the shots. Period.

Sony clearly has invested time and resources to make MLB The Show a great game franchise. MLB realized that and that's why they gave Sony the option to make it multi platform instead of just informing them that they were going to hand the license to someone else.

If you'd look beyond silly fanboyism you'd realize this is a win for everyone. More people are going to play this game = Sony earns more for the investment they make to develop the game. MLB is happy that the best game to represent their sport is available to everyone, not just a specific subset.
Seriously.. this is a good thing and is definitely not the hill to die on.

@Flaming_Kaiser Doesn't matter how much money Sony had invested in the tech. They don't own MLB and this they have to agree to license agreements to use the teams and players names and likeness.
I'm a baseball fan, so I don't expect everyone to understand this point but MLB is on a weird transcripts where the average age of a fan is getting to be beyond middle age. They need to attract the younger audience and quick. So this move is partially assumed at that. It simply is MLB insisting that the officially licensed game needs to be available EVERYWHERE. They have Sony the option to continue making MLB The Show but release it on all platforms or the license agreement would expire and another studio could take over.
It's a move that allowed Sony to retain the license, and likely sell a few million more copies, while benefitting MLB by reaching a wider audience.
Literally there is NOTHING to be upset about here. It's a sports game.. they should all be multiplatform.

@Juanalf In a perfect world a console would just be the device that plays the games. Like a blu-ray player. Imagine if the brand of blu-ray player you owned determined which discs you could play.

With that said, I'm not naive about how the industry works and PC is as close to open community as you'll get. In that regard I think Microsoft making their 1st party games available on both console and PC is actually brilliant. Much larger customer base and allowes consumer choice of which platform you want to use.
Unpopular opinion here but Sony should absolutely release exclusives to PC. Maybe not day and date of launch, but within a year should be ample to give the console players the benefit of earliest access and then PC players can get it 6-12 months later. Sony sells more games, more players get to experience the titles and there is still a benefit to owning the console hardware as you get the titles first.

@Gamer83 It's a better look than losing the license completely and EA taking over. End of the day, it doesn't change the fact that the important Sony exclusives are still exclusive to PlayStation. Although don't be surprised when they start showing up on PC of course. I'd contend that is you are a fan of MLB The Show you should be excited for the game to be exposed to a wider audience. Xbox players are going to see a splash screen for PlayStation Studios and see how high quality the games can be. It could be the gateway for someone to go get a second console and get into the PlayStation ecosystem. Literally no downside here. More sales for Sony, more exposure to a wider audience of in my opinion the best sports sim game out. Everyone wins here in my opinion.

@AdamNovice This has nothing to do with Sony being courteous... LOL

MLB told Sony this needed to go multiplatform or they would no longer have rights to officially use MLB teams and players. Sony had the option to stop making MLB The Show and another studio would have jumped at the opportunity, or they make the game available on Xbox and presumably PC. Literally no goodwill in this decision on the part of Sony.

@Gamer83 Out of curiosity, why would you want a game associated with one of the largest sports leagues in the world to be gated only to PlayStation? Nothing about MLB The Show is proprietary to Sony in terms of intellectual property.
This attitude is bizarre to me. I could understand this if it was a Sony created franchise like GoW or Uncharted.. but baseball? MLB rightfully stepped in and told Sony this needed to be multiplatform if they wanted to retain the exclusive rights. As far as I know it was the only major sports game locked to a single platform.

Re: How Delicious Does That White Destiny PS4 Look Out of Its Box?

Generik

I actually had the white Destiny bundle pre-ordered for about a month and cancelled it on Friday. Picked up a bundle with Infamous and 3 months of PSN for $399. Also realized that everything in my entertainment center is currently black, including the TV stand and the white PS4, while beautiful, would stand out like a sore thumb. So officially as of Friday I am a PS4 owner!

Re: Talking Point: Why PS4's Christmas Offering Is Much Cleverer Than You Think

Generik

I don't have my PS4 yet.. but I voted average. I think the Xbox One has the better lineup for this year but that's not saying a ton. I'm getting the white PS4/Destiny bundle and then look forward to getting TLOU as I never had a PS3.

On the Xbox One, can't miss out on Sunset Overdrive and I will most likely pick up Halo MCC. Forza Horizon 2 looks to fill my racing needs but I'm going to hold off on stating it's a must buy at this time.

3rd party.. plenty of games I'm interested. Starting with GTAV for sure, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight.. list goes on. If PS4 continues to show dominant performance graphically, I'll probably be picking up those games for it.. if it comes back towards even, then it will depend on who is giving better exclusives or deals.

Going in to early (hopefully) next year for exclusives.. The Order:1886 looks very promising and Bloodborne was the first game that gave me pains that I didn't own a PS4. Xbox with Quantum Break and just maybe that Scalebound game that looked pretty promising.. Good time to be a gamer. Now if I could just justify the Wii U as that Zelda teaser was ridiculous!

Re: Feature: What Does Your Guardian Look Like in PS4's Destiny Beta?

Generik

I try to play without subs but usually within about an hour of starting a new title I turn the option on. It just takes one time of going "What did he just say?" for me to realize it's not worth missing the dialogue.

Anyway, I can't wait to get in on this beta later this week on Xbone. I pre-ordered the PS4 Destiny bundle.. so this wait to get the console and game is going to be brutal.

Re: Bethesda Won't Show Us PS4's New DOOM Game, So Here Are Some Second Hand Details

Generik

@LDXD I'd love to see a new Hexen. That game was fantastic!

Also, I'd mostly agree that Doom 3 was inferior to 1&2.. but I'd hardly say it3 was 'disappointing'. It was just different, as one would expect considering there was an almost 10 year gap between 2 and 3. The entire FPS genre shifted in that time and they tried to make Doom 3 more like what other FPS titles were doing.
